So you start buttoning at the top and go down (like me)
or do you start from the bottom and button up?
Bob Impact

Top down is the way to be.

(assuming this is for wearing a shirt and tie, otherwise i don't wear button down shirts)
start in the middle and work up, but not the top button, then from the middle down and tuck the shirt into the pants. top button gets buttoned right before the tie goes on.

Holy shit! I just asked my friend this question and he goes from the top down too, but then he asked me a question:
When you are putting on your pants, do you pull them up and then thread your belt? Or do you thread your belt through the loops and then pull up the pants? I said I thread the belt and he went nuts! So does he!
From what I just read about the shirt button thing, apparently the majority of the world buttons from the bottom up. It might be the reason for the expression "button up".
I am curious how the women button their shirts/blouses.

I thread the belt through the loops as I am getting the clothes ready, and I clip my knife into the pocket. I fold the pants flat, and place the shirt on that I will wear on top of the pants, folded flat too. Then, I place an under shirt on top of that, and top that with my socks and underwear for the next day. This way, I have a nice neat arranged bundle ready to spring into when I am getting ready the next day. It saves me a huge amount of time and decision making in the morning.
The knife is optional, but I am Italian, and a nice big sharp easy to access knife is par for the course.

It seems outside of the US, the common way kids are taught is from the bottom up. Very weird and unexpected to me. I cannot imagine why anyone would do it from the middle, but I guess to each his own.

without reading a single response, only a mad man would start from the bottom. i will generally work from the penultimate top button down, leaving the ultimate for last, if it is to be buttoned.
I start from the third button from the top (antepenultimate) down, then the second from the top, then the top button if I have to wear a tie, which is not often.
