I feel sorry for Fez. I was a shy kid and people talked to me like Ron is talking to Fez. I hated when people would say "you need to be more outgoing" etc. I completely get Fez's response. there is no denying Ron is right but Fez can't just magically change himself. Steven Baldwin sounds to me like he takes a tremendous ammount of personal responsibility for the events of his life. His admits bankruptcy was the result of poor decisions he made, and now he is obviously dealing with it. He doesn't expect God to talk to the bank, or hire him a new accountant. He's an addict and despite being 'born again' out of his old life he still goes to meetings, because as an addict he understands he needs to maintain his sobreity even now.

Fez cant ask Steven Baldwin to answer for religious people who use their churches to stupify themselves to the facts of life. Fez can only ask Steven Baldwin about Steven Baldwin, or for Steven Baldwins opinion. What Fez is really doing is asking for Steven Baldwin for Fez's opinion, which isn't even about any kind of religious understanding its about his unresolved parent issues.

The notion that to understand god you need to completely surrender your free will is poorly understood by a lot of people, who are both for and against the idea. It is a very old idea based in ideas like the knowledge of god is so incomprehensible the only way to even begin to approach it is to tap into the innate part of yourself that is connected to him. Any vestige of humanity in you prevents this process, because your humanity cannot understand god, so you need to disconnect from it. Or because Gods motives are so incomprehensible you need to trust that they are in your best interest, even when they seem not to be, and it would deny your ability to access that supreme benevolence if you question it.

Do you think there is anything in Steven Baldwins life where he would say it was just him getting fucked over? I'll bet he looks at every failure as a gift to teach him humility, or to appreciate how much his faith can buouy him, or a life learning experience. So I dont see how, with an attitude like that, you could argue with them that the god they believe in has not taken care of them. They value something way different, and Fez wants to yell at them for not valuing the same things that he does.

Born in Houston in 1956, My mother brought me up with the Cowboys, not the Oilers. Stayed with them the whole time; never swerved. No I will not, not go to their games. The Denver game was great. :smile:
