View Full Version : Fez's Therapist

I obviously have no knowledge whatsoever of this woman, but I'd be willing to bet she's as mixed up and miserable as our buddy Fez.
Hearing Mr. Whatley reiterate the same childish assertions about God and spirituality that he had before he started to see a psychiatrist proves he really hasn't made much headway in making sense of this life.
I know Ronnie's said it half-jokingly for a year now, but I really think it's time he fired her and found someone else.
It's unquestionably not working.

It's not your decision to make, Gregory, he's a grown man and is perfectly capable of deciding who he wants in his life. This thread reeks of drama.

A main goal of therapy is progress, even if it's minimal, and that doesnt always happen right away. With that said, I think he's been with this woman for a long enough time now that he should be seeing some sort of progress through his therapy. That clearly hasn't happened. It's time he moved on. I'm sure this woman has helped and continues to help people, but Fez isn't one of them.

I didn't say it was my decision, just my opinion.
And Fez isn't "perfectly capable" of making decisions.
It's become painfully obvious.
I love the guy, but he's not progressing in any way. He'll continue to suffer mentally, emotionally, and physically if he continues on his current path.

Do you really think he discusses religion much with his therapist?
And Fez has never struck me as spiritual, even when he was religious. He's the normal religious person, just following what their church says without actually thinking about it.
The fact that he actually left his church and started looking for others and questions his religion is actually a huge step and an amazing thing for a full life brainwashed church goer to do. It shows way more about his personality and his growth than just sitting in a church listening to whatever the preacher is saying to him.

That's just crazy talk.
Over the last few years, Fez has progressed greatly. He used to disappear for days to weeks on air and cry constantly. He's turned a lot of that sadness into anger, sure, but he definitely sounds like a much different person that he used to earlier on XM.

It's not a matter of discussing religion as much as it his belief that all the bad things that happen in life is God punishing you.
You have to admit this is an extremely immature and egotistical way to look at life.

Fez has progressed?
Really?
Two years of therapy taught him to turn sadness into anger? That's progress?

If that's your opinion, how about you call him up and express that in a non public way. I missed the show today so I have no context, but it's not up to you to decide who has made progress and who has not, Dr. Gregory. :wallbash:

Fez's life and his therapy have been an ongoing on-air topic for years now.
It's not like it's done under a veil of secrecy.
I don't get why people get upset over us discussing it.
Ditto for when people comment on the things Dave brings up about his personal life and others scream "foul."
If you talk about them on the radio, you obviously want it out there.
This site is RonFez.net, and it's original intent was for people to comment on the show.

Fez sounds like he's become a stronger person, a more decisive person since his low point. I don't think he's back to old Fez, but I definitely feel he's much closer than he was a couple of years ago.

Yeah but lately that is because Ron steers it that way. Today especially, I felt like Ron was arguing both sides of the religion topic and using Fez as his "opponent." Often it does not sound like Fez is arguing the side of the topic that he actually believes. He's constantly in an argument he doesnt want to be in because Ron is seemingly convinced that there must be a conflict and conflicting views. But it always ends up being a public spanking for Fez.
Im not criticizing Ron. I cant imagine the frustration of dealing with Watley. But trying to position Fez as Rons intellectual foe is pointless. To me, it sounds like Fez can not and does not want to play that role.
And the fact that there were no tears today proves that Fez is making progress.

Like when he was doing that thing where he continually asks Fez questions until Fez thinks of the right thing to say.

Ron: so you ask god for something and he doesnt deliver?
Fez: right
Ron: which means?
Fez: he's not listening

Ron: or?
Fez: he's got more important things to deal with.
Ron: or?

It's Ron trying to get Fez to say what he really means instead of saying what he thinks Ron wants to hear.

Yeah but Fez doesnt want to argue with Ron. I feel like thats a big issue. And Ron is enlightened enough to see both sides of any issue and, to me, clearly tries to drive the conversation to a place where he and Fez are on opposite sides. Which sometimes comes off as forced and unnecessary.

Sometimes people agree. Ron can make anything funny...even agreement. Painting Fez into a corner of half-hearted opposition is worse than agreement sometimes.
And I love the show. I just think that a lot of Fez's on-air issues stem from not wanting, or being able to, stand up to Ron in a debate. Not his therapist. Though ironically, Im all for Fez firing that succubus.

I think it is really hard for us to say. I mean, how much is real and how much is a semi-goof for the show? Fez isn't stupid, and if he wasn't getting anything out of his therapist, he would stop going. And even if he wasn't making a ton of "by the books" progress, if it makes him feel better, than he is getting his moneys worth.

And yes, Fez is depressed.
He's been depressed for about 4 years now.
When callers "attack" Fez or when Ron is "cruel" to him it's borne out of frustration more than anything else.
We know what a charismatic and comedic presence Fez CAN be. The fact that he only shows flashes of that on rare occasions drives us (the people who care about him) nuts, especially when he's been seeing someone for 2 years and made little to no progress.
Sorry if that offends anyone, it's just the truth.

I agree completely.
Fez has isolated himself further and further. The less he talks, the more that becomes the norm and comfortable for him. The longer he spends his days vacuuming, reading comics, half watching NFL and reality shows, the more that becomes a comfortable norm. The longer he is out of a relationship, the more that is a comfortable norm.
He has a routine. A routine that seems to not be working. Change the routine.

That's just it; he seems dead set against it, and it appears his therapist is an enabler of sorts.
It's like a boxer whose lost every fight he's been in but refuses to get a trainer or manager.
Finally he relents, but they're "yes" men and he continues losing.

I think the therapist is bent on finding out the "source" of Fez's troubles; abuse, neglect, mommy issues, etc. Instead, or in addition to, he should be working on making the changes that are necessary.
If someone is obese, you don't sit down with them for 3 years and try to find out why they eat. You get them on a diet, you get them exercising, and if necessary you address the compulsion issue.
Fez should get an assistant. Splurge. Fix up the apartment. Get a great new wardrobe. Have the assistant make social dates through out the week, not "dates", but things to do; restaurants, museums, volunteer, maybe learning something like a musical instrument. Just doing things to get out of his head.
Everything he does is a safe routine that leaves 99% of his brain free to dwell on his inner demons. That is why after watching football, he doesn't remember what he saw. That is why after decades of watching wrestling Sam can beat him at trivia. Because he isn't engaged, he is over analyzing all his "mistakes" that day and through out life. Stop thinking, start living.
