The thread about the racist JotP refusing to perform an interrracial marriage and the responses it got had me wondering what people here think along these lines. I really hope the results aren't as I expect.

When answering the poll just assume the the hypothetical fiancee is perfectly acceptable in all ways: smart, good-looking, successful, etc., etc.. The only "issue" is that your child is marrying someone not of the same race.

I'd be fine with it. The area we live in might not be as accepting, but I am sure will be more so by the time my kids get married.

I'd personally be fine with it. But I don't think we should try to force everyone into our little view of the world. Who are we to say that our point of view is the moral authority?

I seriously doubt anyone on this board will say otherwise, but I have no real problem with it. I married a non Italian and it did kind of bother bother of my Italian parents, so I know what it feels like, a little bit. Even its its the same "race", its a different ethnicity. It can be just as bad for some people.

I think you all know my answer.

My dad had an issue at first and got over it once he got to know him. He had been warned of dating white girls and that it might cause problems but that was not an issue once we got serious. Both families love each other very much. Our dads our BFF.

In a perfect world my kids would marry other Italians. But in the scenario you described, where their partner is smart, succesful, polite and basically just good people, I wouldnt have a problem with it.

Now if they came home with some of the ghetto people I mostly see around like some kind of fucked up Maury Povich episode? Id be really dissapointed but Id never cut them out or disown them.

whenever i date outside my race, i always get a little weary when meeting the guy's family. as someone earlier pointed out and it has been my experience that parents arent too happy when the guy brings a puerto rican home. :down:

I don't really consider it an issue.

My dad was "old school" but when my sister dated a black guy in the 1980s he said, "I'm from another generation. Just give me time. If she's happy then that's all that matters."

And he was a Reagan Republican. He blew my mind often. He was so open to other ways of life and the occasional debate.

Part of me thinks this world needed more people like my dad.

My sister married an African-American gentleman, and it didn't really matter to me at all, nor did it matter to my parents. There were some in my extended family, however, who were opposed to it, and didn't come to the wedding.

No problem. My ex-gf from hs her father did not like her dating a white guy at first but then grew to like me as long as we did not marry while she was in college.

I'd be a little worried at first but once I got to know the person and their family I'd be cool.
