Hello Doctor,

Almost exactly 2 years ago I had my gall bladder removed. Twice in the past 3 days I've experienced a brief, but very sharp, pain by the uppermost incision scar.

Is it just coincidence or something to be concerned about?

I've never had any pains around these scars until now.

Thank you.

You can have some twinges in scar tissue months or years after the darned things have healed. Generally this is considered to be caused by entrapment of a nerve ending in or near the scar. The tissue underneath moves, the scar doesn't, the nerve stretches --> pain.

Usually little to worry about, but if it keeps up your primary care provider can do a thing or two about it. If it's truly scar pain, you can even get botox injections in it if it bothers you that much. I use Lidoderm (a numbing patch) if it's bothersome enough to treat with medication.

your pal,

steve

I would bet that Gregory Joseph is very, very familiar with Botox.
