It is nowhere near a revival of the Spirit of 1776.

The things leading up to the American Revolution dealt with actual imposed harsh taxation on the American Colonies without their representation by a government which was distant from the country.

This is the formation of a group based on the fears that the government will outlaw weapons and "blockade" cities, none of which has happened or is even being threatened right now. They are forming to in case of a remote possibilty based on their fears of things the government hasn't even proposed yet.

Right now, we have a legimately elected President and Congress, neither of which is seeking changes to the Constitution to turn the country into a dictatorship. And no one is denied representation. They just lost an election and suddenly think they need a group to protect themselves.

It's got as much sense as a group formed to fight against alien invaders seeking to harvest Earth's supply of the Birds of Paradise plant.

I'm so happy when people post things like this. It lets me know whether or not I should take their political opinions seriously.

Remember when Clinton was in his last year and all of these fringe groups were saying he was going to sign an executive order suspending elections?

Get over it you freaks. The democrats won the election. How about just getting organized and getting out your vote next time?I'm really getting sick of all the doomsday shit.I'm even more sick of the "news' reporting on and sensationalizing it.

It's good to know there's a version of "Bush will declare martial law and install himself as President-for-Life" on the other side of the aisle.

Not, not "kind of like" that. The Colonies couldn't elect into the House of Commons or Lords. That's what no representation means.

The American people can elect people into office and so have representation. If the American people don't like what those people do there, they have the opportunity to vote those people out of office.

Nah, when they change the laws for obama's third term I want to make sure I have a small army ready. Not to go against Bush, but to eliminate the idiots that would vote him back in. So I guess I'd be taking on mostly all the republicans in the country.

Seriously, won't these movement nuts immediately pivot and turn on anyone who tries to lead them?

It doesn't escape my notice that the guy quoted in that article went to Yale.

It said "Yale-trained lawyer." I"m not exactly sure what that means. Of course, he wouldnt be the first ex-military nutbar to graduate from Yale Law School.

"Rhodes, a former firearms instructor, said he easily could have started Oath Keepers during the Bush administration, but his focus during those years was first on getting his law degree (in 2004) and then volunteering on the 2008 presidential campaign of Texas Congressman Ron Paul, a libertarian Republican in whose office Rhodes worked during the 1990s."

Wow. This guy really focuses. He spent 2005 through 2008 trying to get Ron Paul elected. Otherwise, he would have set up the Oath-Keepers sooner.

If we are to believe his reason/excuse.

It stands for the 10 treasonous acts they have sworn to commit in the name of upholding the Republic. I am not sure if a law enforcement officer would be wise to join this group.

The truly amusing thing is that a Republic, that they're upholding, is more the style of government that Democratic ideology would prefer. They should change it to a Confederate logo since they're so hellbent on a weak central government.
