Dr. Steve forgot more about physics than Dr. Kaku will ever know.

Does Kaku have a racist/anti-semite/adorable southern wife?? No

The answer is Dr. Steve and its not close

Let's see:

-Explains the universe in TV and children's books metaphors

OR

-Makes low-grade wine in his basement.

Kaku it is!

They both have their place.
Funniest moment on The Colbert Report, Colbert asked a woman poker champ who would win in a game. She answered, "It depends, are we playing dungeons and dragons."

Kaku is great, but he does use cartoonish analogies too often.
Dr. Steve is amazing with medical stuff and he does add some to the physics discussions.

Dr Steve, all he has to do is throw some wine Kaku's way and that lil slope will pass out!

Has Dr. Kaku ever prescribed Valtrex for our Li'l Dave's non-herpetic herpes? No.

Has Dr. Steve ever graciously given yours truly a shout out on his show for sending him some silly nonsense? Yes.

Dr Steve is I-CHI-BAN!!!!!!!!!!! (ichiban)

Kaku, especially after today, when whatever Dr. Steve's could be legitimate intellectual case against him turned into a horrible, watered down, incoherent version of O&A's bit about Kaku dumbing down theoretical physics for dummies.

I like dr.steve he rules on o&a,but when a backwoods doctor from Tennessee is questioning a man who legitimately laughs god in the face and says "I SEE WHAT YOU DID THAR!" and explains it, and gets paid to do it and is right about it. i don't see where this grape stomping hick finds the balls to humiliate himself. does dr.steve know a few things sure, but more than a man who does it as his living? come on dr.steve you just look like a jackass.

this is like me going to wikipedia and reading about scoliosis and then going to dr.steve's hospital and trying to diagnose people when i have no clue what i'm talking about.

You couldn't be more wrong about Dr. Steve if you tried.

He is neither a "backwoods doctor" nor a "grape stomping hick" as you so eloquently described him.

He's an intelligent, educated man who doesn't happen to live in NYC.

I know that comes as a shock to a great many people, but everyone outside the tri-state area isn't a slack-jawed yokel.

Oh, and Dr. Steve studied physics in college before choosing a medical career.

I may have been a bit harsh on steve and i know he studied physics but kaku lives physics that's what he does. kaku is constantly in it,and didn't just study it but graduated summa cum laude (wikipedia :-) )

and like i said i love dr.steve's call ins to o&a he rule, but are you gonna tell me a regular doctor who studied a some physics knows more than a man who works in the field it just doesn't make sense.

I don't think it is a question of knowing more. I believe Dr. Steve will concede Kaku knows more than him about physics.
I think the argument is about how Kaku presents the material.
There is a large gap between being a great practitioner and being a great teacher.

yeah and kaku explains it in ways that people can understand.

i never have trouble getting the disney and tv references, but if he started spouting off with shoptalk i'd look at him like he was fuckin insane.

No argument there, to be honest. My dislike for Kaku stems from many places:

1) jealousy
dammit I wish it was me instead of him

2) identification
I'm pretty sure he got beat up a lot when he was a kid; so did I. He likes Star Trek, so do I. Familiarity breeds contempt; and self-loathing makes one dislike people who remind one of oneself. This is the narcissist way, though, and I'm really trying to be a better person these days.

3) macho bullshit
As an adult male, I just can't stand the fairy-tale shit he spews...alice in wonderland, bubble bath universes, ugh. But that's me not being in touch with my softer side, I guess. I can't stand it. And also, TIME IS NOT A RIVER. Time is that which you measure on a clock, and my explanation of time dilation still beats his version (talk about "watered down") any day.

So that's me being honest. The truth is, I made one comment in a text to Jimmy N a year or two ago criticizing Kaku's explanation of time dilation and it turned into a thing. I was a willing participant, but when I was asked about it on R&F I couldn't say much more than "it's me being an asshole" which is true.

The day someone can make a video that has this impact (IMHO) with Dr Kaku's words, I'll be surprised. http://www.doctorsteve.com/2009/11/08/november-7th-2009-live-weird-medicine/. But I grew up with Sagan, watched Cosmos when it first came out on broadcast Tee Vee, so I'm biased.

That's it, nothing much fun about it, I'm afraid.

Steve

You would rather be a physicist then a medical doctor?

2) identification
.....Familiarity breeds contempt; and self-loathing makes one dislike people who remind one of oneself......
That one sentence just explained why it is I can't stand a particular friend of my brothers.

sometimes, actually. I wish we all had two or three lifetimes to spend doing different things...I would pick: Palliative Medicine Specialist, Physicist, Chef in that order. Probably would be better off doing the Chef thing when I was young, though.

But what I meant was that he has such access to the airwaves, and a great opportunity to be a popularizer of science. I'd love to have his job, that's all.

Thats cool. I'd like to be able to try different careers but I'm at the point now were I'm very sought after in my field and demand = money. I also enjoy (most of the time anyways) what I do so no compelling reason to make a right angle turn with what I do.

And thats why we love you so much.

The bit though played out perfectly. Opie is going on about the Christian Bale voice when you chimed in with the Adam West "Catwooooman" it was so sincere. The following silence was, as they say, radio gold.

Laughing with you, not at you :)
