i like the es file explorer, mainly cause it lets me access files on my local network over wifi, and ftp, don't know if the other ones do..but at the time it was the only one that did..so i've stuck with it.

oh thats just a nexus wallpaper I found.

which gives you 2.1 features, but its buggy.

and the clack thing is weather widget-donate.

Android 2.1 is coming to the Droid this week!

And the maps update the other day introduced multitouch, so you can squeeze and stretch to zoom in on the maps. Expect that on more apps soon...

Justwondering if this is a common issue, if i power my phone off and on, once its on the keys won't light up/touch sensitive buttones either.

Ive found the only way to fix it is to open the camera, then it operates normally.

So when I talk on the phone, the mic doesn't work or is horribly garbled. I have to speak on bluetooth or speaker. I did a search on a few forums for that issue, and I dunno if it is hardware or firmware related issue.

i have a similiar issue, but mine is that the headphone jack is loose which causes the mic to get all fucked up.

there is a problem with the headphone jack if you have been using the phone as a mp3 player

from what I have read, bricking is hard to do.

you wont get the 2.1 update either. but its rather useless any way

you will void everything. if you get caught. but you can easily un root to take your phone in for servicing.

upside, is more speed and apps. like screen caps and wifi tether
down sides are above.

i finally figured out how to change the boot animation on my droid. i got tired of the silly blinking red droid eye and now i'm using the nexus one boot animation.

the more i tinker with this phone the more i like it! i even downloaded a boot animation that has the goofy sackboy from little big planet but i haven't used that one yet.

install the sdk tools from google
or
root your phone, and install drocap2
or
use a home alternative app (such as home ++ or gde) but these will usually let you take screen shots of the home screens.

with the other two you can do any thing.

For the second time, all of my texts have disappeared. One minute they were all there, and after receiving a new one that was the only one present (with her previous ones also gone). Is there some setting I'm not aware of that occasionally does that?

While one person claimed that the cause is a free antivirus program that I also had on my phone, it appears that the real problem is that the default setting on the phone is to clear them all when you hit 1000 texts. Having a long-distance "friend" (and hating to talk on the phone), we pile up the texts. I've now maxed out the message setting (5000), and have also downloaded a text backup program.

we got the kill all apps...app and its helped out a lot. The battery has went from lasting maybe 3 hours to all day long which is perfect for her. BUT for me, I'd go nuts knowing I'd always have to have it on constant charge.

I thought about getting that long lasting battery that was posted on here earlier to see if it'll work or not.

it was a pain in the ass to put on but well worth it as it covers pretty much everything.

Had my 1st big problem with the Droid last night. I was using it to guide my band to a club in Trenton. Had it plugged in on the way down there to my car charger but for whatever reason it never charged. In fact it almost seemed like it drained the battery extra fast. So of course the phone battery died after we got there.

On the way home even though I plugged the Droid back into the car charger and it seemed to actually be working now it wouldn't let the maps start. Not sure if it needs a certain amount of charge to work even if it's on a charger, no idea. So I start going towards the Turnpike because at this point I have no idea where I am and no other way to navigate.

We decided to stop and get something to eat before we got on the Turnpike. During this break I decided to check if there were any updates for Google maps. Well there was and after applying the update and restarting it started working again. Only problem now was that it took me in the exact direction I just drove, like 10 miles out of the way, to get us back to where my band lives in PA.

So the little glitch cost me like 30 to 45 minutes.

Did you leave the screen on while driving with it plugged into the lighter?

The phone will die if you do it that way, the phone uses more energy then it seems to get while charging if you use it while its plugged into the lighter.

Ive used it at home plugged in, screen on the highest setting, online while playing music and the battery still died.

The screen was on most of the 2 hour drive yes. I just left it on my lap as I drove, screen on, plugged into the car charger I bought from Verizon. After I got the maps to work again on the ride home I left it on just as I did on the way down but this time it charged instead of dying.

Kinda fucked up, not sure what that even means. I did notice the Droid felt like it was a little warm but I chalked that up to just sitting in some sun as I drove. Maybe there was some charging issue on the way down. I don't know but I was fairly pissed. I needed to go up 206 and when I didn't know how to get there I was forced to use a road I knew how to get off so I chose the TPK. That put me way out of the way and if my Droid hadn't started working I'd have still been at least 30 minutes out of my way by the time I knew where I was as I traveled north.

The screen was on most of the 2 hour drive yes. I just left it on my lap as I drove, screen on, plugged into the car charger I bought from Verizon. After I got the maps to work again on the ride home I left it on just as I did on the way down but this time it charged instead of dying.

Kinda fucked up, not sure what that even means. I did notice the Droid felt like it was a little warm but I chalked that up to just sitting in some sun as I drove. Maybe there was some charging issue on the way down. I don't know but I was fairly pissed. I needed to go up 206 and when I didn't know how to get there I was forced to use a road I knew how to get off so I chose the TPK. That put me way out of the way and if my Droid hadn't started working I'd have still been at least 30 minutes out of my way by the time I knew where I was as I traveled north.

one if my USB cables i bought to charge my droid barelt fits correctly now to charge my phone.

Just got the Devour. I was gonna get the Droid, but Jeff has one and I don't want to be confusing phones, plus the keyboard is a little more raised on the Devour.

I am overwhelmed with the phone. Does this mean I am getting old? What should I do to it to make it awesome? Should I hack it? I did that with an old ass phone but am not sure if Verizon is starting to let the phone function 100% now.

EVerything is fast as shit compared to my POS Bbery tho!

To metamorph(change apperances):

DL metamorph from the market.

Goto droidforums.net, alldroid.org, xda. wherever.

Look for thread that have (MM) (metamorph) and the like in them.

Click it. You will see pictures of what the metamorph is.

Some will be just changing colors of text in the pulldown, change the battery icon, or even change the status bar color.

DL the metamorph if you like it.

Place at the root of your sd card.

open metamorph via phone. run the checks

then select pick theme and go to the zip file that you dled and select it, then hit apply all.

You can also use several metamorphs at once as well.

but always do a nandroid backup before, as it may mess your phone up.








Andvanced nandroid backup:

Boot phone into recovery (Hold the physical x button and power button until you see the new screen)

Select backup/restore.

select advanced backup.

choose back up name(name it something newer or w/e) you will need to use the physical keyboard. When using the DM updater it will usually do the backups for you but this will be named so you know what it it.

select all options.

perform backup. (it takes a bit)

then back out and restart the phone.

then you can metamorph.

DM 1.0 can be metamorphed. but make sure you get the metamorphs that work with your rom. which would be 2.0.1

It's the price you pay for having apps run in the BG. It can drain the battery, but the plus is almost zero load time. If you are jumping back and forth between apps, leave them running. If you are not going to use them again, kill 'em.

And NEVER NEVER kill the mail app. (unless you don't want the mail updated.)

Go trade it back in. It's not supposed to drain that quickly, especially if you shut off apps with Task Killer.

There's a glitch I got a couple times where the battery registered dead but when I plugged it into a charger it suddenly went back up like 60%. That may be your problem, but if it's happening so often, fuck it. Make them give you another one while you still can.

I disagree. I like the task killer I have, I have noticed an increased speed when I shut off all the shit I don't want running in the backgroud.

I have noticed that after while, the available memory it displays goes down even when I kill stuff, like there's things running in the background now that there wasn't at start up and I never had access to them in the 1st place.

I read a few pages of Mexi's link, and I do understand that for the most part the apps won't drain your battery. The key phrase is "for the most part". There are some poorly-written apps out there, though, so I'm keeping the app killer in case it's needed. One app I downloaded back in December was one of those, and it would kill my battery in less than a couple of hours. I deleted it within a day, mainly because I was concerned with the phone overheating.

I'm sure this got posted earlier but... my droid is constantly dropping my wifi (only my home wifi) My iPod Touch and BBerry both have no issue, seems like the droid connects, hangs onto a signal for a while then tries to get a new IP. Ive reset the router and the droid. HALP!

If you think the camera on the droid sucks, the one on the devour is AWFUL. Jeff's Droid has had full signal multiple times when mine drops, the volume on the Devour seems really low, battery issues, the lower version of the software... I think I'm going to switch up tomorrow and pay the extra $50

Traded the devour in for the full droid today. The only advantages were a slightly better keyboard

It can be reversed.

Whether or not it is worth doing depends on how much you enjoy little differences.

The popular opinion is that the wifi tether makes it worth it. Although you can tether via pdanet app without rooting the wifi tether when rooted makes tethering easier.

From a few posts ago, I wholly agree wide field pictures in low light with this thingee just don't work. Grainy, blurry shite.
You can understand why the builders would do this though. A few good flashes and the battery is spent. It's not really a high voltage flash like you would get from an SLR. It's just a bot more than a light. I lost my light meter or I'd give it a whirl.

One thing that has worked is getting very close to the subject...like a one foot or so.

Is that stupid? yes. :wacko: prolly not much you can do about it.
