Im not trying to make another healthcare thread so bear with me for a sec here
I find myself more and more divided on an issue like this lately. In the past, calling myself a libertarian, i would be against it on principle because it was a government program. But now I am considering both sides of the story. But a the same time it so hard for me to really care about it, because I dont know if there can really be a "right" plan. Something like this is so complicated and contains so many variables how can we outright say it will cost Americans more or save Americans money?
Also, I feel like whatever decision is made wont directly affect me. I have health insurance, I dont pay too much for it, and so far it has covered the expensive medical bills ive encountered recently. The old satcam would hate to see someone so apathetic on a topic like this, but here I am.........is anyone in the same boat as me?

I'm not trying to fight or argue with you, and if this is too personal I apologize, but why do you think it doesn't affect you? I have health insurance too, but there's always the chance that tomorrow I'd be out of work.
I find it difficult to figure out if this is a good plan too. Instead of giving out useful info, our media tends to just air the opinion that screams the loudest and its polar opposite,

Ya know what? I haven't had insurance in a long time and have a couple things I'd like to talk to a doctor about. Small things now that could probably become a problem when I'm in my 40's or 50's. Stuff I'd like a professional's opinion on.
But I don't have health care and even when I was working I didn't always find a job that offered it.
I'm all for the idea of covering everyone, fuck it. I'm not even looking at the small details, I'm just the asshole who's for it without knowing everything about it.
If these douchebags can fund everything else, save my health you cunts.

this is the most important line here.
there are people out there who scream out "get a better job" when someone doent have insurance. my sister falls into that category of a job that doesnt offer insurance, but ays too much for medicare. she works in an afterschool program and tutors and mentors kids. any one with kids can tell you that is a valuable service. she's lucky she has youth on her side. however, when she gets really sick (often from the crap the kids bring in), she doesnt have a doc to go to and wont get paid for the sick leave either.
my sister should not have wait for her flu to get so out of control that she has to go to the ER for help.

I completely agree with this. If we were able to go back in time and the choice was a) universal healthcare b) war, I would choose healthcare without blinking. Even now, if we could pull out of the middle east today and start funding healthcare with that money, I would be all for it. Our government is pretty fucked up that we are fighting an endless war and the people here are getting sick and cant get treatment. I know im beating a dead horse

No you are right. I think what I was trying to say was, I am not going to be affected, atleast right now, as much as other people. I have adequate insurance that I can afford, so I wouldnt necessarily benefit from universal healthcare. Im not rich so I wouldnt be "unfairly" taxed by these plans

I dont want to be labeled as politically apathetic. We're expected to "rock the vote" but if this was on a ballet i'd probably stay home

why feel like you "must" have a stance or take a side?
if it doesnt interest you or you really dont care, then why worry about it.

My personal feeling is that there must be competition to drive the prices of health care lower.
There also has to be SOME sort of regulation, but noy ownership, by the Federal Government.
The way the system is now is an absolute mess and a sham.
I don't care what happens as long just as it's rushed through. Something this important can't be thought out!
