But, I've often had a great deal of luck getting deals in Manhattan on Priceline the morning of my stay (as little as $100 for decent places like the Hudson or Hotel 57). It's a Saturday in December, so you may have to play with the variables like price, star-level, and part of the city, but I'd bet you'll get a good deal.

If you need a little more certainty, hotels.com is a good place for last-minute deals, like day before and day of.
