That's right! Allow me to pat myself on the back because I'm sure that my wife will take at least half of the credit when my daughter's birthday comes around in two weeks.

Point 1: Firstly, I brought my daughter to the Miley Cyrus concert a couple of weeks ago. She enjoyed the show. I enjoyed the various wardrobe changes.

Point 2: After MUCH hard work I was able to secure EVERY Zhu Zhu Pet accessory by calling around and visiting about 4 different Toys R Us' and 3 Walmarts over a period of three weeks. Unfortunately I could only get my hands on Mr. Squiggles but I'm still working on getting Chunk, Pipsqueak, and Numnums.

Point 3: My daughter's favorite tv show is "Cake Boss" on TLC. I surprised her by taking her to Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken and we ordered her birthday cake from there. I just found out that they just did Miley Cyrus' 17th birthday cake. Miley happens to be my daughter and her friends' favorite pop star. So, now she can stick it in her friend's faces that she and Miley Cyrus get their cakes from the same place.

Here's the Cake Boss, Buddy, with Miley's Cake:

Here's Miley, looking extra-slutty, with her cake:

Here's my daughter along with my parental glory coat-tail riding wife at Carlo's Bakery. Behind the counter is Mauro from the Cake Boss show.

The more tv with commercials they or their friends see the more begging for hot ticket items around the holidays

Judge, I don't know you and I don't have kids, but I have to tell you all of the material stuff won't matter when your kids are in their 30's and looking back on their father.

My grandfather raised me and tried to make up for the fact that his son was a bad father by spoiling me. Sure at the time it was awesome to have all the toys and experiences like going to Disney and Sea World and stuff, but none of it matters to me now.

When I think about my father, I think of the love of gardening and reading that he gave me. I think about him teaching me to cook, and tucking me in after working 12 hours at Westinghouse at 60 years old. To me the real day to day shit really stuck with me.

You are the best dad in the world to your little girl no matter how much you spend on her. Just remember that.

you are missing the point, if she was into things right now that did not cost much, he still would do it for her because she means so much to him and it makes us as a parent just as happy to see their smiles as it makes them happy, and they will remember and it will matter when they grow up, cause it's not like he is doing this to make up for actually being a bad or inattentive father.

Just based on the trouble he goes through to see her happy shows that he probably creates plenty of priceless moments with her that she will cherish for life as well.

It's one thing to spend tons of money on toys and gifts that have no real special meaning for the kids, but the cake being made by her favorite baker and it tying into her love for miley ... that is a pretty awesome memory for her that he created.

Holy shit! I just got home and checked on this. At least Roseblood fucking gets it. Just for the record - 99.9% of what I post on here is tongue in cheek.

Allow me to get all fucking serious here since some of you don't get the joke: I DON'T really think that buying stuff for my kids makes me a good dad.

Oh, and my kids are the most well adjusted and pleasant kids you'll ever meet. Straight A students, they excell in sports and all manner of extracurricular activities. They are extremely well-behaved and mature far beyond their young years. They love their parents unconditionally; not because of the tangible items we give but because of the love and emotional support we provide.

Wampus Crandle decided to opine on the worthlessness of children and to judge me about how I raise mine. Firstly, I would never deem it necessary to judge others who have decided to make different lifestyle decisions than I have. To each his own. But since you've decided to bring it up I'll say that your overly judgemental nature would never allow you to do what I do. The countless personal sacrifices that my wife and I, and I'm sure the other board members with kids, make on a daily basis for the sake of our kids is immeasurable.

You could never place a price tag on the time spent shuttling my kids back and forth to school, clubs and activities. Help with homework and studying. Making sure that they are healthy and safe 24/7-365. The lack of sleep. The time off from work. I could go on and on but those who know already know and the others probably don't care. We do these things and put these kids before our own wants and needs not out of selfish reasons but out of love. Yeah - my whole plan was to have kids so I could post on an internet message board to look like a big shot.

The fact that I'm able to buy them "nice" things does not make them spoiled. My wife and I are loving, nurturing, and responsible parents and we constantly put limits on what we will and will not "get" them. If my son wants the latest Rock Band add on then he'd better save up the money and gift cards he gets from relatives and friends for his birthday and other occassions. My kids are well aware that nothing comes easy - not school, not sports and not life.

Now, regardless of what some of you highbrow connoisseurs of the artistic televised medium think of it, my little 8 year-old daughter loves the show, Cake Boss. If I can afford to get her a cake from there for her birthday does that make me a worthless materialistic prick? I assure you its not all filet mignon, lobster and five foot tall cakes at the Smails house everyday. And, I can tell you that the joy that I will get from watching my daughter blow out those candles will far exceed the joy she will get doing it. Last year we got her a $20.00 sheet cake from Costco and she didn't love us any less or any more than she does now that she knows where her cake will be from.

Anyway, I've written far too long. It's late. I've eaten a lot of turkey and pies and drank a lot of wine. To top it off the Giants just pissed away what little was left of their season. I'm in a nasty mood which has caused me to compose this opus that I doubt many will even read. Maybe I'll regret posting this in the morning. Maybe I won't. Either way I'll probably be back to making creepy and snarky type posts tomorrow and I hope that people will be smart enough to not take them too seriously.

Either way I'll probably be back to making creepy and snarky type posts tomorrow and I hope that people will be smart enough to not take them too seriously.

for what it's worth, I did not think you are spoiling her with the kind of presents you give, if anything I thought they were very thoughtful and meant to create priceless moments that she she will remember

Sorry. I thought this thread was for making Nazi jokes that may or may not float over Katja's head.

I never doubted that Smails was the best daddy ever.

Never.

For what it's worth, you really need to type longer rebuttals on why ur kids are so awesome so I can continue to take copious notes and ace the midterm. I liked the thread when you only bragged about ur awesome parenting, I LOVED the thread with the "my kids are better than God" diatribe to counter Wampus's "opine". Are you cheating on lleeder? Followup...Can ur ticker take this stress?

I read it all. I'm not sure why, but I did.
