Why does head hair behave differently from body hair?

I've been blessed with a full head of nice hair on my head and cursed with a body with more hair then I'd like (not quite full blown simian but my guido lineage is clearly apparent). The hair on my head doesn't come out. If you look at my pillow, in my hair brush, shower, etc. there's simply no hair to be found. Same thing if I run my had through my hair and give a pull....maybe 2 or 3 strands will come out. My body hair is a totally different story. The slightest tug on my chest or leg hair and you'll get a good dozen coming out. When I mop the floor its brutal the amount of my fur I seem to be shedding.

Whats up with this?

I couldn't post this in the Weird Medicine thread so I am sorry to post this here.

Dr. Steve,

I have a problem with ear infections, I get them at the drop of a hat, over the last year I have had at least 20 of them. What is odd about this is that once one clears up, it switches ears and I have another one in a few days. They are painful, with sharp piercing pain and they last a long time. Sometimes my ears get bloody and pussy ( that is so attractive!! )

I have been on Cipordex (a Canadian antibacterial and Corticosteriod) for each but it seems like this is only a band aid fix and not a getting rid of it once and for all fix. I do have a referral to a specialist but he is away until the end of the year. Can you recommend something in the meantime to help with the pain and infection.

Thanks for the help.

If someone can move this to the right area that would be great, I didn't have the privileges to start a thread there.

For future reference, only Dr. Steve can start threads in there. Post questions in the Dr. Steve questions thread in his forum. When he answers them, he splits them out into new threads.

That sounds like an answer a lawyer gives, not a doctor.

Your main problem, hydee, is that you have socialist doctors caring for you.

You might as well have your mailman fill your cavities.

Government employees DON'T care about you.

Come to America, pay a handsome sum, and be healthy again.

P.S. - You're welcome.

Thank you Mikeyboy for fixing this for me. I feel a bit dumb.

This is a condition I have been dealing with since I was 14, when I was living in Pittsburgh Pa. You know like in America. Those doctors did fix the issue for me either.

Pittsburgh isn't America!

Silly hydee...

Hydee, it sounds like you have "chronic external otitis" since they're treating it topically (with drops) and it keeps coming back.

Causes can be a hidden perforation in the eardrum, a foreign body trapped in the ear canal, or some infection that is resistant to the drops they're using.

#1) you need to see an ENT specialist; they can look in to the canal and detect any weirdness in there that needs to be treated.

#2) they need to do a culture of your ear to see what's growing there...it may simply be resistant to the cipro.

Let me know how it turns out. This can be a frustrating problem, but it's generally solvable.

your friend,

Steve
