Hyundai Santa Fe. Decent gas milage for an SUV. Anyone hear negative reports on them? Mine is a 2009. Brand new. (well new as in only 5K miles on it)

Good choice...we're very happy with ours. Hyundai quality has come a heck of a long way in the last 10 years (especially the last 5.) They're probably the best bargain going...today...whoo!
The only thing to be aware of is that if you do your own work, they use a lot of proprietary parts for which there are no generic substitutes.

Great bargan.
Like many of today's vehicles if you are in a wreck expect totalled.
This is due to many reasons, unless the contact made is under 15 to 25 MPH. Also, since Hyundai is overseas, if you have to buy parts outside of warranty expect to pay a little more. Otherwise from both test driving to working on, I have only a few smaller complaints regarding Hyundai, nothing major that would be a deal breaker.

Partner at work owns one. Transmission went early. Gets about 13 miles to the gallon.

I know with the trans before their standard AWD you would have hard shifts that led to early wear. But, if I remember correct that SUV has AWD standard which is very different.

He's got the AWD standard. He was a mechanic before electrician and that vehicle is the bane of him.

I know someone who has a 2001 and has over 170,000 miles. It still runs and looks good.

the only thing that sucks with the "used" as good as new deal is that they usually don't carry the warranties and Hyundai otherwise has a really great 10 year 100k mile one that is not transferable.
