Ok, so I need to drop 25 or 30 lbs on account of my T2 diebetis. And my love of beer and overall lack of will power led my doctor to recomend I try a combo platter of Topamax and Wellbutrin. I'm only up to 50 mg of Topamax and already I'm noticing that I feel extremely anxious and nervous, with a side order of doom and gloom. Also my vision seems somewhat effected. Now I know that these are both listed as possible side effects, but what I want to know is will they get better as my body adapts to the drug? Or will I be anxiety ridden the entire time I'm on it, and will it increase as the dosage goes up? Also, the Wellbutrin makes my hands shake like I've got the palsy, so maybe that will burn some calories.

Topamax generally causes the following adverse effects:
* headache (23.8%) *[25.9%]
* paresthesia (numbness & tingling) (23.1%)
* upper respiratory tract infection (17.5%)
* diarrhea (16.8%)
* nausea (15.4%)
* somnolence (15.4%) *[16.1%]
* anorexia (loss of appetite) (13.3%) *[5.6%]
* insomnia (11.9%) *[11.2%]
* memory problems (11.2%)
* dizziness (10.5%) *[10.5]
The side-effects most frequently leading to discontinuation of therapy with topiramate were:
* Psychomotor slowing (4.1%)
* Memory problems (3.3%)
* Fatigue (3.3%)
* Confusion (3.2%)
* Somnolence (3.2%)
I'm guessing the anxiety is caused by the Wellbutrin rather than the Topamax...it's one of its major adverse effects of that drug. You may get used to these effects; if you don't (and quickly, from the sound of it), your doctor will need to change them. If you feel suicidal, stop and call your doctor immediately.
let us know how it turns out

Good call Doc, it was the Wellbutrin reacting badly with caffiene that was making me all anxious, so now I've given up booze, because I've lost all interest in drinking it, and I've given up caffiene because it made me a nervous wreck. I'm now eligible to become an Osmond!

Just in case anyone cares, or is desparate like i was to loose weight and is looking for an option to surgery, since I posted this thread I have lost 20 lbs. (in a little over a month) And all the side effects from the meds have gone away. As my Doc predicted the combo of Wellbutrin and Topomax is somewhat of a miricle drug, I have lost my appitite and my urge to drink alcohol, before this I was drinking about a 6 pack a day with 2 or 3 shots, once I started these meds I just slowly lost interest. I didn't plan to, I just did. 10 more lbs and I'm at my sexy goal.

Just a quick update to this, since the good Doc said "let us know how it turns out", I know he was just being polite but I like to brag. I have stayed on these meds and gotten over the side effects and am now down 35 lbs. I originaly planned to loose 30 but after 30 I decided 35 but like any good anerexic I'm still not satisfied so we'll see what 40 looks like.

Just curious, do you have to stay on the meds forever or is for a predetermined period of time?

If you mean me, I am right, and I do have a wierd way of saying things. But in all I lost 45 lbs on the topo and went from type 2 diabetic to not diabetic at all. I have been off the meds for a few months now and I have kept the weight off on my own, I don't want to go back to the needle sticks and diabetic meds. Besides, I'm too sexy to be fat again, and my wife's too hot to have a fat husband.

yeah, oops, guess not many would have seen the original messages before they got deleted. i meant that if they'd just spammed about, say, how to buy cheap topomax, i'd have left them. nope, more wow gold and watches, i think.

on the plus side, a thread I started made it to 2 pages, on the negative, I made an ass of myself (again) and nobody seems to be talking about the same thing.
