Actually, there is a NCAA bylaw that prohibits this:

Receipt of a benefit by prospective a student-athlete or his or her relatives or friends is not a violation of NCAA legislation if it is determined that the same benefit is generally available to the institution’s prospective students or their relatives or friends or to a particular segment of the student body (e.g., international students, minority students) determined on a basis unrelated to athletics ability. Whether or not there was, in fact, a job offer made, will probably never be proven, and God knows they wouldn't put the girl on the payroll now that it's out there. But there's still the case of the kid who was asked to sit out a year, and will be given a job by someone at Alabama.

So last night I literally waited about an hour for the Jays v Rangers highlights on Baseball Tonight, only to have it actually skipped by big market teams, going going gone and other big market teams that WERE NEVER EVEN on the up next list. THEN THE no-hitter came and it got bumped to the last topic coming up, and it was the VERY NEXT thing for back to back commercial breaks yet NEVER played. I was doing work and just left it on, but man was I pissed when Yank highlights trumped one (never even on the list), then the no-hitter for the 10th time, both followed by going going gone.

ESPN fucking only covers it's interests and there is a hierarchy that is all too fucking clear. What a fucking joke that this happens on every level of it's programming, even it's sport specific shows and overall highlight shows that should cover it all. Now add on that Cowherd is just assuming Seau was off bc of football bc of hits versus the new life, his own body/brain chemistry and so much more like personal life issues to SELL FUCKING SOCCER! Yeah this is really bothering me too. Maybe it was the hits but maybe it wasn't. The fact that they are sensationalizing this as the media loves to do with all stories is really pissing me off. Has there been a study to compare NFL player deaths/suicides vs the avg work force? Obviously when an athlete dies or commits suicide we hear about it but we don't hear about but that doesn't mean its much higher compared to the rest of society.

Seau was a great player and what happened is a tragedy. I feel so bad for his mother and kids but all that being said I wish the media would stop speculating and wait. I think when they do a review of the brain it will come back with some sort of damage just like I bet every player will have that. Does that mean that is the reason? I'm not exactly sure what you were watching, but I do remember that at least part (if not all) of the "Final Table" was shown "LIVE", with only like 15 minutes of delay to make sure nothing that was being discussed could possibly be relayed to the players while the hand was being played (although they'd find out 15 mins later).

That's why the hole cards weren't shown until after the hand ended, so that the players couldn't slow play for 15 mins and catch up to see the cards on the screens.

The QA manager here was watching that night, and said it didn't end until like 4:00 am here, or somewhere around then.

I think what you were watching last night was a replay of the "Live" final table.

The only catch to this was, any bluff was revealed 15 minutes later. The strategy of making someone pay to see your hand was blown as soon as the people watching live caught up with ESPN's coverage... so 15 minutes after a hand ended, the players knew what everyone had been holding in the last hand.

Not sure why in the hell they thought anyone wanted, or needed to watch 7 hours of "LIVE" poker though. I can't imagine many stayed with it until the end.

NBC sports just got a huge piece of help by signing on to carry the EPL games here, too. ESPN was offering a TON of money for that. I know you dont like soccer, spoon, but thats gonna bring alot of viewers to the network that NEVER would have even known what channel it was. It should help the rest of the network get more push. That is, if they stopped showing hunting and fishing shows 7 hours a fuckin day

Got the 1st tatse of Olberman this morning as they went to him for comment on the Rodriguez beanball issue last night.

It was clealry a plug for hsi show that's supposed to start in a few weeks I think.
