I truly feel like I am unique in my hatred for sports, and all that's related to it.
Sports do not excite me. I find them to be boring. My emotional side does not connect with any of the "drama". My logical side is not excited by the stats. Nothing in me cares about how much these people earn per year, or how much they get paid my Nike and Gatorade.

I also think athletes are pussies. They are millionaires with personal chefs and masuesses (sp) and doctors who cater to their every whim. They fly privately and stay in luxurious hotels.

And the fans really bug me. To be quite honest, I actually look down on those who have an over-the-top passion for it.
It was only a few months ago that I saw two total strangers... one Yankee fan... the other a Red Sox fan... actually get into a fist fight at a bar that was airing a game. I feel superior to these retards. If they were friends of mine, I would put an end to the friendship. (and don't get me started on the facepainters!)
I see no logic in paying 10,000 bucks for tix to an event. Or even $500. Or $5000 for a ball that looks like every other ball in the world. Etc etc.

I blame my father. Sports aren't important to him. We never once threw the ball around. We never went to games. Whatever.
All I know is... I'm gonna be 40 in a couple of years, and I've never once gave a flying fuck about one single sporting event.

Having said that, I'm in fantastic shape. I can run like the wind. I'm faster than just about anybody. I still run all the time, and only recently quit the NY Roadrunners. When I was in the Army (infantry), I was always in the fastest ability group. Very often, I was the fastest in my age group. And I almost always came in first during any timed race. I used to run marathons. I still do the occasional 10k. And I jog all the time. I was able to do 110 pushups in 2 mins. I can climb anything. I like the outdoors. I like to kayak. I like to rock climb (I used to... haven't done it since 2002).

But something about the team thing. It seems extremely childish to me. It seems like a "game".

It's not like I can't relate to the passion. I'm a professional musician and I've been one all my life. I know all about getting out there and doing what you love in front of a crowd. I know aaaall about the sex, the drugs, the traveling, the groupies, the money, the threesomes, the fans, the roar of the crowd, the life-experience, etc etc.
I also understand the importance and fun of relying on your "brother" to be there for you. In my case... it's in a band situation. But I can see a parallel to a sports team.

There's a small part of me that wishes that I was into sports so I could relate to the mania and passion.
But the larger part of me really and truly does think it's retarded. I hope I neverrr give a shit about Lebron James soooo much that I wish AIDS on him for becoming a free agent... or whatever the fuck is going on right now. Nor do I everrr want to care about insignificance of which lefty batter had the 2nd most RBI's in 1971.

Anyway... that's my confession. I think sports and it's mega-fans are tards.

Why? The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.

At A.J.'s excellent reference. Fear not!

As for fezident's dislike for sports, I can see where he's coming from, as sports really wasn't a big deal growing up in my household either. The Phillies and Eagles games were on for sure, but stats never stuck in my head either. I enjoy the games, especially going to them, but if you ask me who hit the most HRs or had the most RBIs last year, I couldn't tell you.

I think that sports has certain similarities to one's religiosity. I think that both are rooted in childhood, and unless you connected with it at an early age, there is very little chance of you becoming religious or a sports fan at an advanced age. Take me, I did not grow up with religion in my household, I remember going to church maybe 3-4 times and that was when I was already 9 or 10 - old enough to think for myself, yet I was always surrounded by sports, whether in school, or actually going to sporting events, talking about it, playing sports etc. etc.

Are you referring to the music facepainters, the music fist-fighters, or the music fans that actually believe that a certain arena is/was cursed for 8 decades?

Totally!
I agree with you 100%.
If a child is born into one household, he is a devout muslim. If that same child was adopted by a different family somewhere else... he'd be a devout Christian, Jew, or whatever.
A child from MA who is raised to be a crazed Red Sox fan would be a crazed Yankee fan if he were born just a few hours away.

Im talking about people that sit there talking about "feeling the music" the ones that argue over which era was better, which genre was better, which band was better, which decade was better, etc.

I just dont get into it. I dont hate music, but to me all it is is sounds. I like having it on but feel not drop of passion for it. To me Stairway to Heaven is no different or better then the Theme song for The Jeffersons.

Im not arguing with you, Im just saying I get how you feel because thats music for me.

I've never been a sports guy. Even growing up in the south with all the college football fanaticism, it never rubbed off on me. I even played little league baseball and peewee football at my parents' insistence, and I was never able to muster up any enthusiasm for sports. I would see kids cry at the end of games and wonder what all the fuss was about. I don't hate sports nearly as much as Fezident, but bringing up so-and-so's draft picks is a good way to get me to look around the room for someone else to talk to.

Strangely, I've managed to become a casual observer of football in my 20s, mostly for conversational and social purposes, but I still can't really relate to everyone's obsession with it. I am, however, a textbook music and movie nerd, so that might explain it.

Helluva feat, in this state.

Good luck keeping it "casual". I've had job interviews where one of the questions was "Auburn or Alabama?".

Beware of temptations into the dark side, and becoming a bandwagon Bama fan.

Yeah, I've definitely gotten that question in formal situations, and I never really know how to answer it. I don't care about either team even though I went to Auburn for two semesters. I could fake my way through it by picking one, but I'm afraid that would be an invitation into a sports conversation that my bullshitting skills can't quite handle. I'm no Costanza.

My old man never "threw the ball around" either. I never bought a product because Micheal Jordan or A-Rod pitched it too me. Maybe sponsors need to know that most people aren't swayed one way or another by who endoses a product.

I think fezident hates the fans more than the sports. The sports themselves are fine. People watch them, sports channels report about them, that's about it. We hear about sports on talk shows when it's relevant but other than that a lot of sports go on everyday and if you're not paying attention to them, they really don't bother you too much. Yes, the World Cup bullshit was annoying but I ignored it the best I could and am just thankful it's gone.

It's the mega-fans that ruin everything. People who look down their nose at you for not liking the right team. People who think they're better than you because they can spout useless stats from memory. People who's entire day is ruined when their team loses. Those are the annoying parts about sports. Those people can't go anywhere without talking about sports because it's all the pay attention to.

So it's not the sports themselves, it's the bad fans.
