Apparently there is a good likely hood that I'm going to be mugged at some point. I didn't do anything wrong, except I hung out with someone who I guess I shouldn't have and these two guys want jump me. Which is an honorable thing to do.

What's the best way to prepare for a potential assault?

Unless you walk around with a knife ready to use at an instant, it's probably not going to do you any good, when someone is attacking you in a planned way. Get some high grade pepper spray, find out some info on the two guys, and hire that guy from Three O'Clock High to be your backup for a while.

He was still in high school, 17. He is not a fighter, he got attacked simply because he's gay. He got gay bashed, basically. Even if he DID get pepperspray, #1 - he could have gotten expelled, #2 - he could have sprayed them first and been arrested/sued #3 - it wouldn't have done shit since they jumped him from behind as he was getting off a bus.

How is "violence the answer" here? It's obvious keithy has no idea how to handle himself in a fight! Anyone feeding him bullshit to "handle it like a man" is just setting him up for a severe beating if these guys genuinely do want to kick the shit out of him, or worse! But I did say the weapons I suggested were ones someone could use even if they didnt know how to fight. Mace and tasers arent for hand to hand combat, they are quick ways for people to disable their opponent, which is why they are usually recommended for women who fear attack. Thats why I pretty much shot down brass knucks or using a knife.

2. That being said, I took Keiths question as to how to avoid getting the shit beat out of him, and I really believe going to the cops doesnt do that. All they will do is roll their eyes and maybe file a report. Keith still has to catch a beating for that to help him at all.

Im not trying to argue with you, Im really not, but Im sorry sometimes violence IS the answer. What do you think Ive never been jumped before? Where I grew up that shit happened all the time, with warning or without.

If your brother knew in advance that a group of kids wanted to jump him, then he shouldve been prepared for it. Now I dont know how old he was, but if hes at least an adult, its not hard to prepare for. I dont give a fuck if its 8 on 1, if youve got pepper spray, and start spraying when they come at you...you dont get beat up. I bartend and bounce at a real dive now and Ive seen cops clear groups of 20 or more with pepper spray.

I just dont agree with the whole "just go to the cop/teacher/parent" attitude of dealing with things. Deal with them yourself. In my house, if a kid does something wrong, and another one tells on them, they both get punished. One for what they did and the other for ratting on them.

Im 34 years old, grew up 2 blocks from the Washington Ave. projects, bounced in bars all over Philly and have been in more fights then I can remember. I never started a fight and Ive never had my face smashed in. Because Im a street smart kid that was taught to be aware of whats going on around me and be prepared for anything.

I absolutely do. And I dont believe for a second Im overconfident about the effect I have on them. And if you disagree with the way I raise my kids, you can say it the way you just did. Like a respectful person. Not like a condescending cock the way he did. And when I referred to my kids originally, I wasnt talking to him anyway.

Ive got my own beliefs when it comes to raising my kids. Alot of them definitely arent popular these days but I really dont care because I believe most people these days raise their kids wrong. They overly baby them and treat them like they are made of glass. They dont hit their kids or teach them consequences. What results are weak adults who dont know how to handle problems. People that feel everything should just fall into place for them and then crumble when it doesnt work out that way. Kids that live with their parents until they are 30 because they are scared shitless of responsibility. My job as a parent is to make sure my kids can survive on their own. And I absolutely believe what Im doing will make that happen.
