Man, most people dont realize anything. If the last 2-6 years tell you anything about this country, it should be how the overwhelming majority of people living in it are fucking morons.
The out of control spending will not end with the new congress. It will just be diverted to other areas I wouldnt be surprised if the DoD budget reaches 900 billion. We are stuck with DHS and as long as the Military Ind Complex is being fueled count on more lobbyists for Raytheon Grumman etc and now with an ever expanding DHS politicians pockets will be lined with cash from lobbyists from the Body scanning companies

Why, cause they voted for Obama?

Because they're southern?
There's not enough Republicans who share my view. They can start by cutting the defense budget by at least 20%.
With us fighting in two wars at the moment? Not likely.
For defense spending you will not get an arguement from me. Also our spending in intel is way too much. 800,000 people with top secret clearances is redundant and not necessary.
We cut back on Intel after the Cold War because "we didn't need so many spies anymore" and we thought we could rely on technology. Besides, it's not just getting Intel on terrorists -- Russia and China are as dangerous as ever. I agree with the need for restraint and oversight but to cut Intel funding wholesale is what got us into trouble in the first place.
I would love to cut the military budget, as its percentage of our budget is ridiculous. However, until we come up with some real strategic plans that are modernized and based in alliances, this ain't going away.
Plus, we need to remember the human expense of the military and obligations we must fulfill to those people. They've earned it. That's why the "across the board cuts" approach is always a stupid idea.

What trouble? 9/11? Ok, look, it was horrific tragedy but honestly, if the choice is:
A. - We take billions of dollars from the defense budget and use it for things the country actually needs, therefore risking a possible tragedy like 9/11 in the next 20 years or so, or....
B. - We keep spending all that money on defense and cut back the chances of another terrorist attack
I take A.
What good is protecting a country from outside invaders when youre just letting it go to shit anyway?

There was a study done. It shows someone is more likely to get killed by cops then terrorists.

Like I said: a terrorist attack here is only one possible threat. There are other overseas threats as well.

I really dont give a fuck about that either. For real.
The part that sucks is if they ever decide to cut military spending, you know its going to be the part they shouldnt, like salary for veterans or safety equipment for soldiers. God forbid they stop trying to invent new billiob dollar weapons to destroy half the planet.

You don't give a fuck if Americans are killed overseas? Because that's a part of the overseas terrorism threat.
