I started listening to Ron and Fez when they were on WJFK, before Fez's health problems and the discussions of what he himself characterized this week as "mental problems."

I've heard him talk about taking psychiatric drugs ranging from L-Dopa to anti-depressants to Xanax, going to endless talk therapy, studying Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and now practicing "focalizing." I've heard discussions of whether he is autistic or has obsessive-compulsive disorder, and descriptions of free-floating anxiety and panic attacks, and shaky leg syndrome. I've heard temper outbursts and a number of crying jags.

Could it be--that Fez is literally at war with his HIMSELFNESS? At times, he wants to be assertive and dominate. At other times, he wants to submissively submit to his "secret." This raging conflict seems to be causing a mix of anxiety and depression.

As proof of this hypothesis, consider that he is happiest when sick. Sickness, ironically, satisfies both sides of his himselfness conflict. He can control others through the sickness (dominance) while submitting to it as a masochistic indulgence. Consider the fact that when he got the boil, he delayed seeking medical attention.

It seems that he cannot decide whether he wants to be on TOP of things or sink to the BOTTOM. IS he literally at war with his HIMSELFNESS?

Stop being so judgementalful.

No. Fez's issue is he has a secret and he still hates himself deep down inside because of all those years of being raised in a southern, Christian, very conservative environment (remember, the guy used to teach Sunday School at one point).

He still thinks something is seriously wrong, possibly evil and disgusting, about it, and I would be willing to wager that if he could magically "un-secret" himself, he'd do it in a second.

That's why every topic and story he pulls for the show in relation to his secret has to do with it being accepted or normalized on some level -- he desperately wants society to coddle him and tell him that everything is ok, and that he's accepted.

And I would again be willing to wager that Fez will never tell his secret until there's some degree of mainstream societal approval for it (i.e. legalization of "secret" marriage).

He's the last person in the world that wants to be out on ledge. Look at his personality, everything he does is to try to blend in and not be noticed, because unnoticed is safe.

There may be some level of truth to that, but I think the main problem is that he wants the world to make him do things rather than do anything for himself. If he is going to reveal the secret, he wants a mentor to shove him out the closet door. If he eats a different meal on any given evening, he will need someone to do it for him. If he moves away from Roosevelt Island he would literally need an assistant to do it for him.

Fez just wants his decisions crafted for him.

Why this is, I don't know.

Oh my God. I'm working on a degree in Psychology just for kicks, and none of that shit made sense to me. Maybe Fez just needs to kick his himselfness in the ass and perform.
