The conspiracy theorists say the government controls the weather through chem-trails or something. Maybe I'll write a letter to my congressman telling him to stop this.

the fear mongers are in full effect on the newscasts this morning. Everyone head out to buy bread, milk, and batteries. If you can get your hands on a generator, buy a couple so you can have an extra "just in case"
the good news is that they are going to start their news program earlier tomorrow morning to keep us informed.

Not my day job, but my night job does. However Im off tomorrow and wouldnt go in anyway. We are allowed 7 unexcused call outs a year from our union contract, but last year my boss expected me to drive ibn from Jersey at 9am, while it was snowing, to work a Flyers game followed by a Sixers game and leave at 11pm, while it was still to be snowing.
When I called out he asked me why and I just laughed and told him to look outside. We got about 2 feet that day.
I feel bad for people that dont have a choice. Ill never risk my life just to go to work so I can help some other asshole get rich. Fuck that.

I just finished snow plowing and it was tough. I live in a corner house so the side of my house is about 125 -150 long of sidewalk that must be done. Because of wind drifts the snow before using the snow blower was up to lower back, maybe 36- 40 inches in most spots. my snow blower is only supposed to handle 22 inches. i had to hit it back it up and go again and then again. it took me almost 2 hours to do something that normally takes 20 - 30 minutes and i didnt go full sidewalk wide I went only 1 snow blower width! I still need to do the entire driveway I only did 1 walking path through that!
I love snow and was so happy about getting this storm but this was too much at once!

I woke up today, and 2 kids knocked on my door. They were shoveling snow. For $30, they shoveled my steps, my driveway, my entrie sidewalk and my car out. They also cleaned the snow off of both cars.
So since that was taken care of, I grabbed my kids and did this instead...

Around me mot roads are a disaster. Rt. 9 in Howell and Lakewood has only one lane plowed and no jughandles plowed everywhere. And it didn't change at all from 6 am when I went to work until 3 when I came home. Listening to 101.5 on the way home made it clear that it was this way just about everywhere, including the Parkway and Turnpike. I never listen to 101.5 but I after I saw how nothing changed anywhere around me I was curious to see if this was just a local thing. This is all a day and a half after the snow stopped falling. I know the snow drifts made this a different storm but we had bigger storms last year.
I don't know why this happening. I have my suspicions however. I think maybe Governor Christie's spending cut crusade both statewide and at the local level might have just crashed into reality. I don't know but I'm sure enough shit will be raised over the next few days that we will find out why this is happening.

This wasn't because of snow, but around DC yesterday, the power company (Pepco) really slacked off. A power line was down at some guy's house. The fire department showed up right away. The power company (called by the fire department) showed up four hours later. After his house was gone. They should probably hire Kris next time!
EDIT: The homeowner called...
By about 11:15 a.m. Monday, Costantino's wife, Amy, was back on the phone talking to "a live person at Pepco" describing a downed live wire outside the garage door. Costantino had discovered it when he went to shut down the main electrical box, which was buzzing.
When he looked toward the pole carrying that line, Costantino said, he saw "flames spreading up and down the street along the wire and headed towards our house."
The casing on the wire was "melting" and setting off fires in bushes and on lawns, the Costantinos said they told Pepco and the D.C. fire department in phone calls.
"I get that Pepco may be overwhelmed at times by panicked homeowners saying they think there is a puff of smoke or a smell, but at this point we [were] telling them: 'Your line is on fire and heading to my house and along the street,' " Costantino said.
Costantino helped his wife, her parents, her 90-year-old grandmother and the twins evacuate the house.

Someone at Pepco is going to be in a lot of trouble! I know my employer would have someone in the office today if that happened to us. When a house blew up a few years back a huge in company investigation was conducted to make sure we dotted our i's and crossed our t's. Plus the company had to provide their findings to the BPU. It was a big mess.
Those people in DC are going to be proud owners of some $$$ once that goes to court.

Welp, since I couldn't get a flight to jfk or any new england airport for another week, my brother, my dad, and I are driving the rental car NONSTOP from Sarasota FL to Darien CT. We left a little after 2 and we are almost to Savanah. My pops is just thrilled at all the waffle house. I didn't realize how shitty north Fl is. We tried to eat at a nude diner in jacksonville but they charged 7 bucks a person. I will needlessly be posting through the night to keep awake and sane.

This is why no one respects cops, fireman and or any job that tax payers pay salaries because they dont care they are all in it only for the money and the benefits. Do what you are paid to do, if you dont like pay freezes, reductions or lay offs too bad everyone else deals with that too!

Philly is a great city to live in if youre a single guy. Once youre married though and not going out as much, I preferred to move to Jersey.
But that kind of shit with the parking was always a pain in the ass. I once had my windows broken for unintentionally blocking someone in..

I know visiting my grandmother in Newark was always fun when it snowed because they never really plowed streets. if someone shoveled their car out it was like the owned that space! We just double parked in Newark so it wasnt that much of a problem until someone wanted to move then it got testy!

Grew up in Philly. Moved when I was 13 to NJ for 3 years. Went to HS there for 10th, 11th and 12th grade. Then moved back to Philly at 17 to live with my grandmother. Moved to Hollywood FL for 2 years when I was 20, then back to Philly again with my own apt. at 22, then bought a house in NJ (same place I went to HS) with my wife when I was 29.

Yea well that was the easiest way to explain the back and forth. The problem was I moved in a year where I was already a year late to high school. Cliques had been formed, making new friends wasnt easy, especially since I was the youngest in my grade. Couldnt get my license til 4 months before graduation.
So most of those 3 years I would go back to the city on the weekends and hang with my friends there, then come back Sunday night for school. Wasnt til senior year I actually started hanging out with the kids from my high school.

Yes, of course there is no flip side to this issue or history of employees getting fucked in every way that led to unions and their need to this day. Two sides WF. This issue is clearly ridiculous if true and people should be fired no doubt. However, what if it's all just a bs excuse by Bberg to get out of shit? That is kinda what I was getting at with respect to Bloomberg's reaction or lack thereof. He is the one who is ultimately responsible. Sure the Union's percieved actions or non action could be construed as criminal. One could argue that there were deaths as a direct result of the Union's chicanery. If this was indeed the case why is Bloomberg remaining for the most part mum? If there has been swift and immediate disciplinary action then it has gone widely ignored. I do not know of any action on this, I do not get the New York news feeds, but here in Bugtussle this story was buried as quickly as it surfaced.
Again the one who is ultimatley responsible is Blame Game Bloomberg.
Oh I know, he will start a "Blue Ribbon Fact Finding Panel" to investigate. Here in Bugtussle we call that there talk Buffalo Chips.

Not looking good for the midwest or Rocky mtn area either

The only salvation is that it's so bitterly cold that there is no dampness to the snow, so it's not accumulating on tree branches and knocking out power.

Saturday: Rain... mixing with snow in the afternoon. High 41F. Winds NNE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.
Saturday Night: Heavy snow in the evening will taper to snow showers overnight. Low 28F. Winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 4 to 6 inches.

no, im sayin if you go to a butcher or the supermarket and buy a steak thats not frozen. it was frozen before, they freeze it at the processor and send it frozen to the butcher who thaws it. thats fine. so if you buy it still frozen, its fine to put it right in the freezer.

Why would anyone buy fresh meat at the butcher and then freeze it? If you buy frozen meat and keep it frozen thats fine but if I went to the butcher to get meat its because Im cooking it that day or marinating it that day! If I buy frozen meat its because Im cooking it at a later date.

The whole point of that thread was you freaking out because steaks were frozen, when I explained, several times, that we buy in bulk because it's cheaper, and we keep it in the fridge as long as we can, and then freeze it when it's close to expiring.
We try to eat as fresh as much as possible, but when you're not making a fancy dinner and just trying to sustain life... there you go.

I posted about this in another thread. Lately, I've had a boat load of meat from a cow that was completely butchered before it was ever frozen, and the ground beef made before it was ever frozen. Then the parts were all frozen in a VERY cold freezer. This stuff is so freaking delicious, and it was FREE! I'm going to be sad when we run out.
And, no... It's not the same cow that caught on fire last weekend.

why not leave it in the freezer and thaw what you want to eat the night before? Why are you buying thawed meat that was once frozen then putting in the fridge to then only put in back in the freezer a few days later?
