My friend bought a Rolex that he has been hungering for, and he is always gawking at it with that look in his eye. I like watches, but just can't see spending so much money on one like that. I think the most I would ever pay for one is $200. What is the draw to this kind of thing? I have a Casio G Shock that's atomic and solar, and its perfect for my needs. I never have to think about it and its tough as can be. What is so special about a Rolex? Just a status symbol? Precious metals? How much is your limit on a watch? And honestly, 99% of my day when I need to see the time, I'm at work and look at the clock on the computer anyway.
I paid 39.99 for an Atari Astroids Fossil Watch.

I have a few fossil watches.
I like the look of them better than most other "high end" watches.

It's a status thing. My cousin was very rich when he died and he had like 10 Rolex's. After his death, his son used some inheritance to get me and him into the coal business. He immediately gave me a few of those Rolex's to wear on business meetings etc. to elude that we are successful and such.
Many times, people would comment on the watches and compare to their Rolex's as well.
Its like a secret club - and some ladies notice that as well and give you special treatment thinking that you have alot of cash.
I now have a fake Daytona that I wear when I am out to impress and it looks real but only cost me $75

never liked Rolex as much as Tag Heuer, eBel or Cartier watches but like others have said its for status. When I did sales I wore my expensive watches and drove my new jaguar or lexus. When you show up to a meeting you want to sell yourself as successful. Thats part of the sales approach. If others believe it they will buy in and it will be easier to sell to them.
Think of it this way. If you were meeting your realtor for the 1st time that was going to list your house. If they drove up in a 1996 Honda Accord and had on rubber or plastic watch would you think they were successful or knew what they were talking about? Chances are you wouldnt be confident that he would be able to sell your house quickly and for the price you want because if he were successful wouldnt he represent himself better? Its all mind games.
Even though a car is the worst big purchase you make it actually might be the most important, especially for business. Its the only thing that most people will ever see. Most people you see will never see your house or how you vacation etc. But if youre in sales the best way to represent and show success is by the car you drive. Shallow as it may sound its true!

When I walk into a crowded room rocking my Swatch, heads turn.

You mean your vocabulary didn't "elude" the proper status?
