Progressive doesnt mean that youre on the corner of haight asbury with a beat up guitar smoking a joint. It seems you favor a more centralized federal government with more power. Is that the case? "Speaking of FLOTUS why doesnt she talk about the shit fed to kids with those prized school lunches. Somalis wouldnt eat those."
REALITY (less than 2 weeks before WF's quote):
First lady Michelle Obama's new campaign against childhood obesity, dubbed "Let's Move," puts improvements to school food at the top of the agenda. Some 31 million children participate in federal school meal programs, Obama noted in announcing her initiative last week, "and what we don't want is a situation where parents are taking all the right steps at home -- and then their kids undo all that work with salty, fatty food in the school cafeteria," she explained. "So let's move to get healthier food into our nation's schools."

So according to WF,all cities in America look like Detroit because of "entitlements"? Is he saying what happened in Detroit is because of government money going to poor people? If that's the case, why wouldn't every city in America look like that? I think it's pretty universally agreed that Detroit is in the shape it's in because of a mass exodus of jobs in a short period of time.

Detroit is ground zero for urban decay going back from before the collapse of GM. It goes back to THE 1960's and the great society. Post 1961 it has been run by Democrats starting with Jerome Cavanaugh. The failures of central urban planning goes back to the model cities program
Detroit was promised government aid, entitlements and a result a society to be dependent on the taxpayers.

Just doesn't make sense. So, becasue Detroit had a democratic mayor it was promised all these "entitlements", and it went into decay? What about all the other cities with democrats in control that didn't go into decay? How about all the other cities that had failed urban planning projects that don't currently look like Detroit?
People in DETROIT fell under the spell of expecting government aid and not taking personal responsibility, but all other cities that are currently not in as bad condition as Detroit didn't?

As far as private charity being better than government? Here it is
http://www.cato.org/pubs/policy_report/cpr-18n6-1.html
To support one of your stupidest, most absurd claims- that charities and churches, as good as their work may be, could do all the work that the government has to do (who is going to investigate child abuse cases if you take away CPS's funding? (you did mock the need for CPS))- you cited the Cato Institute.
Yes, this Cato institute:
founded in 1977 by Edward H. Crane, who remains president and CEO, and Charles Koch, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the oil conglomerate Koch Industries, Inc., the second largest privately held company (after Cargill) by revenue in the United States. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cato_Institute)

Everything with you in regards to failures of government agencies is to just throw money at everything. Not enough funding is the same excuse.
There are certain roles of the government however when there are failures at CPS and other agencies bureaucracies, throwing more money down a rat hole just doesnt solve anything.

Way to dodge the topic.
WF, you are nothing if not entertaining. I have no idea why you 're accusing Dudeman of supporting anonymous people that made terrible statements at a rally that probably had 45 people in attendance, but it is literally making me crack up.
You make an absurd statement, people refute it, then you bring up things that have absolutely nothing to do with your statement or the other persons retort.
And what on Earth did the pictures of Cuba, North Korea, etc have to do with anything? Are you honestly comparing Detroit to North Korea?

Everytime I post something in jest, Dudeman Spoon et al immediately cry bigotry or racism. When I point out that there are people who are calling for the lynching of a supreme court justice in which they disagree with, thats bothersome. It doesnt matter if they are bloggers or people with piercings.
As far as pictures of Mogadishu thats not examples of free markets, thats total collapse and anarchy.
As far as Pyongyang and Detroit, Of course there is a difference people arent being sent to prison camps, However after 50+ years of Democrats as Mayors look at the Decline of Detroit. North Korea under Communist rule is a nightmare compared to Seoul.

Everything with you in regards to failures of government agencies is to just throw money at everything. Not enough funding is the same excuse.
There are certain roles of the government however when there are failures at CPS and other agencies bureaucracies, throwing more money down a rat hole just doesnt solve anything.
Never have I said that the solution "to failures of government agencies is to just throw money at everything". I have even looked for agreements between us- like spending money on books and such in the schools long before scoreboards and fields. It is no different than the Wisc union that is willing to make cuts- times are tough, things have to be cut. We'll disagree on what should be cut. We'll also disagree on whether a government service, such as CPS or WIC, is more important than tax breaks for the rich, esp while that income gap between the rich and everyone else is growing. Some services DO need more money; some less.
But when you say something like that you don't rely on think tank ideas, I can find a specific situation that you did exactly that.
We can disagree, but don't misrepresent my positions.

School districts are included but list only non-professional employees. Teachers and administrators use a different retirement system.

It's hilarious that his complaint is with someone who put in 65 years of service getting a $100,000/yr + pension.
Also, let's say pensions are too high. Why isn't the argument to lower pensions instead of completely destroying unions? It's pretty absurd, and it's all a dog and pony show to me. You want to get rid of unions, so find something you disagree with and instead of proposing compromise close your ears and shut your eyes and scream as loud as you can.

Ahh yes more evidence that it is partisan hackery trying to masquerade as facts to the right wing window lickers. From your first article:
In New York City, the No. 2 guy in the fire department retired on a pension worth $242,000 a year.
From the second, which also contains vague "sources":
The FDNY's First Deputy Commissioner, Frank Cruthers, 63, has been awarded a tax-free disability pension worth an estimated $242,000 annually for the rest of his life.
Notice the absence in the first opinion article of the words disability and estimated. And speaking of estimated, estimated by whom and based on what? Again no facts only speculation and partisan distortion

Yeah, Its no use trying to have a debate. Just trying to point out (as many have already done)that WF might want to come up with some independent thoughts based on FACT instead of opinion articles and "polls" conducted by the heritage foundation or cato inst.

lalalalala I dont want to see the facts, Thats your mantra
"The second-in-command at the New York Fire Department was awarded a $242,000 pension for the rest of his life. Frank Cruthers retired at 63, after earning an annual base salary of $201,020 at the end of his career. Upon retirement, he received a “line-of-duty” pension for a knee injury he once suffered on the job. In addition, he is also set to cash out unused compensatory time built up over the course of his career, which could come out to about what he was making in salary. Since he was granted line-of-duty, $150,000 of his pension is tax free from all state, city and federal taxes. Cruthers has received the highest pension ever granted to a city firefighter".

1. assign false beliefs to the people on the other side of the argument and then start debating that, instead of the person/issue in front of him.

Liebowitz mentions bank bailouts and CEOs and limiting their pay and bonus. There shouldnt have been any bank bailouts. The gov't picking winners and losers isnt the solution. Why doesnt Liebowitz mention the bailout of GE. The same GE who Ed Schultz works for and never says anytging about his boss Immelt shipping jobs to china. The latest victim is the incandescent light bulb. The same GE whose CEO is in bed with the administration and has its cheerleaders on every night with their hack shows on MSNBC
Liebowitz doesnt mention the cash for clunkers program creating an artifically employmen rate with tax dollars. Speaking of clunkers. GM paid out millions in bonuses. I dont care if they averaged out to be about 4G's. That company has not paid its debts back to the taxpayers.
Finally Liebowitz doesnt mention in that clip Fannie and Freddie paying out huge bonuses while asking for more money. Already a couple hundred billion in the hole and they are still not fiscally sound.

Dick Trumka in his infinite union hack mentality wants to raise the gas tax to create jobs. Typical progressive knuckle dragging philosophy. Does he know that this is a regressive tax on his "working class" lemmings?
Sure lets raise it even more so the price of everything else goes up. Brilliant Dick. Simply brilliant

Are you taking Moore seriously? He makes a hack movie about capitalism and guess what? He makes millions thanks to the system he hates.
Moores nothing but a sideshow, I get a kick out of how progressives believe he's some great philosopher.
I knew it would have turned int a circus when the 2 street hustling race baiting so called reverends, michael moore, and the rest of the acts attached themselves to the Cairo cheeseheads
HERE WE GO AGAIN!
Nobody even made a comment one way or the other here on Moore, but you once again put words in our mouths. Nobody defended or agreed with him, and surely not one soul called him a "great philosopher" here or pretty much ANYWHERE from what I have seen/read in my life.
The point was that you once again just name call and throw out tag lines you were force fed as you have above and always do. You didn't show where you disagree with the reasons behind his involvement in the event, you called him a fat fuck and that he's a freakshow.
Oh and stop with the "he can't make money bc he hates capitalism shit, he exposes issues with the system and people who exploit it and rape said systems. He has no issues paying more taxes as he makes more, but I assume you'll say he can on his own if he really wants to. That fixes the fundamental issue he has with the system right? His few millions, if that, amount to NOTHING compared to those he investigates or the industries he researches. I truly don't get where your hate for regular people, workers and those who fight for them comes from.

Yes those 50k jobs with benefits for the people teaching our children every day are killing the economy, good point. Does the tax payer sit down at the table when subsidies are handed out? That's just such a stupid line it's comical. You really are a parrot of the right.
And DS has a good point on the work progressive, but you might as well throw in liberal as well. To me, I don't lump myself into any set group bc I'll view each issue based on it's own merits or lack there of. I've been against liberal policy in the past, just not as much as those of the right/conservatives.
I love how the right claims the gov is being destroyed by the dems (only in power truly 2 years in cleanup mode) bc of their ties to unions. Yah, that HUGE union presence versus the money of big business and corporations that runs the right. Hell, they're so powerful, the unions were made to help fight BACK for the little man and their reach has surely influenced the left as well with all that money and power (just to a lesser extent).
Still, I just want to see a conservative in a conversation about economics just once not immediately lump in Krugman as if he...oo sorry his religion, was even brought up, or people don't have ideas or didn't that differed from the republicans since way before his time.

In regards to collective bargaining for the public sector youre dealing with other peoples money. If people in the private sector decide to form a union and it ends up damaging the business, the owner can move to another state. Theres no competition when dealing with the government.
Do you even know that federal workers can not collectively bargain?
Do taxpayers have a seat at the table when entitlements are handed out? Especially for people who dont fucking belong here? Want to talk corporations? You act as if the left doesnt whore themselves out to them
Want to talk basic labor economics? What do you think a job is? According to the progressives its digging a hole one day then filling it in the next day
They dont realize that a job in its most basic definition is a demand for labor. Person A purchases that labor from person B who performs a task and is compensated. Saying that jobs can just be created is childish and naive.
Heres Hazlitts Broken window fallacy
-
A young hoodlum, say, heaves a brick through the window of a baker’s shop. The shopkeeper runs out furious, but the boy is gone. A crowd gathers, and begins to stare with quiet satisfaction at the gaping hole in the window and the shattered glass over the bread and pies. After a while the crowd feels the need for philosophic reflection. And several of its members are almost certain to remind each other or the baker that, after all, the misfortune has its bright side. It will make business for some glazier. As they begin to think of this they elaborate upon it. How much does a new plate glass window cost? Two hundred and fifty dollars? That will be quite a sun. After all, if windows were never broken, what would happen to the glass business? Then, of course, the thing is endless. The glazier will have $250 more to spend with other merchants, and these in turn will have $250 more to spend with still other merchants, and so ad infinitum. The smashed window will go on providing money and employment in ever-widening circles. The logical conclusion from all this would be, if the crowd drew it, that the little hoodlum who threw the brick, far from being a public menace, was a public benefactor.
Now let us take another look. The crowd is at least right in its first conclusion. This little act of vandalism will in the first instance mean more business for some glazier. The glazier will be no more unhappy to learn of the incident than an undertaker to learn of a death. But the shopkeeper will be out $250 that he was planning to spend for a new suit. Because he has had to replace the window, he will have to go without the suit (or some equivalent need or luxury). Instead of having a window and $250 he now has merely a window. Or, as he was planning to buy the suit that very afternoon, instead of having both a window and a suit he must be content with the window and no suit. If we think of him as part of the community, the community has lost a new suit that might otherwise have come into being, and is just that much poorer.
The glazier’s gain of business, in short, is merely the tailor’s loss of business. No new “employment” has been added. The people in the crowd were thinking only of two parties to the transaction, the baker and the glazier. They had forgotten the potential third party involved, the tailor. They forgot him precisely because he will not now enter the scene. They will see the new window in the next day or two. They will never see the extra suit, precisely because it will never be made. They see only what is immediately visible to the eye.*

Progressives say this huh? Ok sure thing.

Let's be very clear what this anti-union push is all about: Republicans recognize that unions are among the most powerful organizers for the Democratic Party, so they must be weakened, if not destroyed outright. This is not about "budgets" or "deficits." It's a total and complete power grab, a move to further marginalize their opposition.
And dumbasses like the Teabaggers cheer it on, fucking themselves over to feel like they "won".

S/S shouldnt be a primary source of income anyways.

When they were discussing a viable 3rd party the other day on the show, it irritated me that Ron actually thought the Tea Party was an actual 3rd party. It's just an extension of the Republican party, fueled by republican money. They're just being used.

But let's say this: while nobody deserves to be threatened, to be involved in politics these days you should expect to deal with some loons.
The last 2 years as a democratic county chair, I have tolerated more harassing emails & phone calls than anyone should have to. When the national health care reform bill passed, I received a threatening phone call at my home. It's sad, but it's part of the deal.
It should have never happened to those republican senators from that lunatic, but it's part of the environment (and an environment their media helped to create). But to cry about it in the media is nothing more than theatre.

Listen to Ed Schultz and especially Mike Malloy enough of the same tired line that hes not as famous as The Beckster or Limbaugh, Frances Fox Piven called for violent revolution. Youre saying that if psycho talk doesnt come from a politician it isn't as important?
Hell Jesse Jackson wanted to castrate then Senator Obama 3 years ago. Reverends arent supposed to act violent
Violence comes from the left too
Back on topic: there will be a major protest in Madison, which will probably be the biggest of all the protests. Citizens from the farm community will join us (on tractors) in marching. Also the 14 Hero Democratic Senators will march and speak to the massive crowd.
After this we will turn all of our efforts to the recalls. I predict we will remove 2 to 4 of the GOP Senators via the process. Next January we remove the Governor thru the same process.

The same Michael Moore who uses half truths and deceptions for his propaganda films. The same Moore who shits on Capitalism who makes a ton of money thanks to capitalism? I am not rich like Moore so whatever I give to charity isn't as much.

Ok, here's what needs to happen: NO ONE REPLY TO ANY OF THESE THREADS OR POSTS
It's like the Roepers, the attention is what is craved and in turn creates some sort of "relevance" to the drivel. I think a thread filled with these continuous rants with no responses whatsoever would be a much better indication of their lack of reason and/or sense.

There are also a ton of people who do reply and give a counterpoint. Want to talk about words and one liners? How about when Rube, teabagger and Hayseed gets thrown around here.
The phony outrage over this always shows up here. I offer a different opinion and view with many people here. I dont expect anyone who disagrees with me to change their views but at the same time, everyone here shouldnt have the same political philosophy.
I dont believe that someone paying more for income taxes is a bad thing, However Where my disagreement is with a lot of people here is that 250K shouldnt be the threshold. Im open to some ideas of the left but the arbitrary numbers like 250K for example, you lose me on that.

If Moore volunteers his time and gives his own money to Charities he prefers then I don't have a problem with that. I am just pointing out that his films are not 100% accurate, there is a lot of editing and half truths. and while he may campaign against capitalism, this system has made him very successful. If he was to need major surgery, even though I dont know him personally I would believe that he would go to the finest facilities in this country and not somewhere else.

Remember Ed Whitaker GMs CEO saying it paid back its loan in full & ahead of schedule? That was a lie.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/apr/27/ed-whitacre/ceo-says-gm-has-repaid-government-loans-full/
In a nutshell
GM Gets a 50 billion bailout from TARP funds. The gov't got a majority stake of GM stock. Part of the bailout was a 6.7 straightup loan and another part was loan for an escrow acct for working capital. That 6.7 Billion loan was paid from the escrow acct.
Since the bondholders were fucked out of their money, those waived interest payments are a factor in the so called profit.

If Gas keeps going up, their sales of Yukons, Suburbans, Escalades will plummet even more. The volt is a dud. However I am curious how they will sell going forward since the mideast crisis . Good possibility volt sales will rise, however the Prius is a superior product . but there will be no profit any time soon.
