"Our" like the entire world right?

Considering the international backing specifically the arab league; I feel like this was the right call.

What a confusing situation. I've seen Gadaffi spelled differently. I was not aware until now that there were alternate spellings for Libya. I'm gonna refer to it as Labia from now on.

"Libya" in French is actually pronounced "Canada", which is why they got so excited and jumped in head-first

Much hypocrisy from the right on this. (Watched the Red Eye Ant was on) other pundits over there were droolling from the mouth for war. Now that it's here they are changing their tune. That it's not needed. (from us).

Apparently, the US is letting the French and British carry out the bulk of the sortees. We do have one ace in the hole in the form of an experienced pilot with a history of fighting the Libyans from back in the Ronald Reagan years. The US pilot has been quoted as saying: "Payloads? Where we're going we won't need payloads."

It's not a war, we've ran raids on countless other countries. this is a swift move strictly to get Gadafi, or however you wanna spell it, out of office. unfortunately it comes at such a chaotic and turbulent time, therefore it gets a lot of press

It seems like a series of surgical strikes aimed at keeping Khadafi (I haven't seen anyone use that spelling in this thread yet) from mounting large-scale military strikes on his own people.

I'm all for this, and this seems like a good move. And Fox News can eat a bag of dicks on this. As always.

I'm just glad that France is flying the planes. They owe it to us after what they did the last time we bombed Libya. To those who are too young to remember, France refused to let us fly over their air space. Due to the extra flight time required to fly around France, we lost one of our bombers.

I'm all for it too, but I understand everybodys trepidation towards it. It's just not a big of a deal as the media is making it out it be though it is scary cause we're currently involved in two wars. like i said we've done this many times, especially in the past 20 years, it just doesnt get as much press

I'm for it so long as the Europeans are handling it alone. We have enough on our plate in the region. I'm afraid of us looking hypocritical to be in involved in attacks against government forces in Libya for the above-stated reasons, when people also have been killed in Bahrain and Yemen by government forces --albeit on a much smaller scale.

Here's the thing to me: you have to be careful to not too directly intervene, so that it ends up looking like the government that arises from Khadafi's fall has been imposed by the Americans. Military action must be limited to preventing Khadfi from full-scale miltary responses to the protests like airstrikes. We can't really get more into it than that, which definitely means no ground troops.

If this stays a fairly grass-roots movement rising from these countries themselves, I think you'll end up with decent governments there. But if it looks too much like America (and, yes, I know European forces are doing most of this, but let's not kid ourselves, America is going to take the credit and/or blame for this) is overthrowing these governments, there will be resentment that could lead to Islamist regimes in the long run.

Yup bombing and killing civilians is certainly the "swift" way to get Qaddafi. Even the Arab League is complaining this is not what they had in mind "enforcing a no fly zone" and apparently Qatar is the only Arab country that has committed to miliary assistance and that won't be coming for a few days. Simply it's regime change all over again.

Beyond all that let's review. We're still in Iraq, expanded our forces in Afghanistan, Gunatanamo is still open and we've renewed military trials. Hope and change has meant spending ourselves into oblivion, stretching an already thin military and vacationing in Rio instead of Crawford. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Hey BO I want my campaign donations back!

"The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.

As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States. In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action. "

If this turned out to be true, doesnt it mean that we are attacking the good guys and helping our own enemies?
Again, I have only started hearing this within the past few days, so if anyone has additional info, weather it supports or denies this, please let everyone know, and discuss.

I've heard the same, but I think we really don't know who the rebels are. Libya like a lot of Arab Muslim countries have many different tribes. There could be unintended consequences from this

i'm smarter than you
so i will answer as requested

a skirmish is between troops
on the ground, so no...
we are not involved in a skirmish

it would probably go by
one of the looser terms like:
military action or
military engagement

i guess the closest to the truth
would be to call it a
"military intervention"
since we are intervening
in another country's civil war

So we are attacking Libya's army and we didn't really check to see who they were fighting against and it could very well be Al Queda we are helping. I don't see how this could affect our credibility. :)

As if you needed more proof of what a total piece of shit Newt Gingrich is, check out his total and complete flip-flop on Libya.

This is the Newter on March 7:

VAN SUSTEREN: What would you do about Libya?
GINGRICH: Exercise a no-fly zone this evening, communicate to the Libyan military that Gadhafi was gone and that the sooner they switch sides, the more like they were to survive, provided help to the rebels to replace him.

And here he is on March 23:

GINGRICH: The standard [Obama] has fallen back to of humanitarian intervention could apply to Sudan, to North Korea, to Zimbabwe, to Syria this week, to Yemen, to Bahrain. This isn't a serious standard. This is a public relations conversation.
...
LAUER: Do you think Moammar Qaddafi has to go as a result of this intervention?
GINGRICH: Let me draw the distinction. I would not have intervened. I think there were a lot of other ways to affect Qaddafi. I think there are a lot of other allies in the region we could have worked with. I would not have used American and European forces.

This isn't even one of those flops where he can kind of pretend he's just "restating" his earlier position. He's completely changed up.

And remember folks, this is the "intellectual" candidate from the right.

While no American troops are on the ground (that we know of) we dont have to worry about IEDs and other tactics used in Iraq/Afghanistan. Dont be surprised if there is a fundamentalist government set up.

No, we took a complimentary role to NATO and DIDN'T take the lead as we would have in the past with a bad situation in Lybia. No joke, I was in Lord & Taylor a few weeks back when everyone was at the UN and at it's conclusion guess who was shopping for suits in NJ as not to pay NYC taxes before he headed home?

That's right, Ahmadinejad. Not only did he have his own security team protecting him, there were triple that in secret service members watching their every move. I expect he had to get this trip approved in the end, but how surreal is it when you look up and see that asshole coming off the escalator!?

Oh and does anyone else find it odd/troubling that Kevin has trouble with 5th grade English but nailed fucking Ahmadinejad? Hmmmmmmmm

Im sure he didnt buy any ties.

In the opening scene for the pilot of the 1980s sitcom Second Chance, Libyan strongman Muammar Gadhafi is judged by Saint Peter in heaven after his death on July 29, 2011. The date was only 83 days off. Gadhafi was killed on October 20 in his hometown Sirte.

From what I'm to understand Kirk isn't gay, but rather is a philanderer. His ex-wife loathes him for banging his chief of staff for years.

Time Magazine is leading with the headline "Autopsy: Gaddafi Killed by Shot to Head".

That had to be the easiest autopsy ever.

This just in from the SNL Newsroom:

Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi is still dead. On a related note, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is also still dead.
