Meaning that all government documents, pamphlets, exams , applications etc. should be in English and if someone wants a drivers license, hunting license for example, they should have a knowledge in English.

We have one uniformed currency, why not an official language?

Now if stores and sports teams want to have languages in Spanish or another language as a libertarian its their choice, however forcing stores to have multilingual signs for example in a grocery store a sign for Milk and Eggs should not be required to have Leche y Huevos. This is also such an insane statement. This is how it always has been. When Italians came here, they came to their own neighborhoods and spoke their own language. The newcomers struggled with the language. They worked blue-collar jobs and their children were educated.

This is the exact story of my father, who you could barely understand if he spoke to you in English, but he worked extremely hard to educate his children who are successful and aren't even fluent in Italian. All of his older Italian friends basically have the same story and the world is OK.

No, bigger government is restricting individuals from doing things like getting a license or voting based on language. Making it more difficult for them. You mentioned rosetta stone, do you know how expensive that is? If the government were to only provide these services in English, you run the risk of alienating a portion of the population from the democratic process. I know in your utopian society this is ok, but what do you think will end up happening? Don't you think the burden will then be on the government to provide more ESL classes, etc?

Don't you think a viable solution to this gigantic problem you're introducing would be to just introduce multiple language forms to these process and allow nature to just take its course and have the first generation Americans be completely fluent in English?

No, bigger government is restricting individuals from doing things like getting a license or voting based on language. Making it more difficult for them. You mentioned rosetta stone, do you know how expensive that is? If the government were to only provide these services in English, you run the risk of alienating a portion of the population from the democratic process. I know in your utopian society this is ok, but what do you think will end up happening? Don't you think the burden will then be on the government to provide more ESL classes, etc?

Don't you think a viable solution to this gigantic problem you're introducing would be to just introduce multiple language forms to these process and allow nature to just take its course and have the first generation Americans be completely fluent in English?

Also, why is the language of the founding fathers relevant to this conversation? The world is so different now.



How is it bigger government having ballots in English only? It costs more to have mulitlingual ballots. In regards to voting, It should not be universal. Now before anyone makes assumptions that I mean white male property owners only let me explain.

In federal /state elections if someone has no tax liability then why should he be entitled to a vote. In local elections property owners pay the bulk of the school taxes, salaries for municipalities etc. Is it fair for non property owners to elect to have someone elses taxes raised? I understand the 26th Ammendment needs to be repealed so thats not going to happen.

Of course the world is different from the 1780's Im sure the founders knew that transportation wouldnt be just by horseback. Whats the point that youre trying to make?

In 10 years we have spent over a trillion dollars in unnecessary wars and in 2 weeks another 600 million for Libya another useless campaign. Imagine if some of that money went to border/immigration enforcement

Have you ever tried to learn another language WF? Learning a new language is fucking hard. You have to do a shit load more than buy fucking Rosetta stone and sit in front of a computer.

Learning a new language as an adult is one of the hardest things to do, I wish I had the drive to actually do it. Maybe its just in my case because I didn't have a real passion or care to learn Spanish. It is probably the same reason I switched majors from computer science, programming is just like learning a language you got to go all in or forget about it.

I speak Italian and Spanish. That was pre rosetta stone. Rosetta stone is easier than memorizing and doing drills. Is learning anything supposed to be easy? There are a lot of things that are hard to do before being mastered. Does everything have to come easy?
Again why can other immigrants for the most part learn English but Hispanics are exempt.


Why can't newcomers have that drive? They chose to come to this country they were not forced to come here. If people want to come here, do it the right way and at least learn some comprehensive English if they want to advance themselves.

Im actually learning some Tagalog. Dating a woman from the Philippines now. She and her family speaks English, At family functions they sometimes break out the Tagalog and I have no problem with that. I dont think other languages should be banned

Since you brought up ethnic foods. While I may not like to eat certain parts of a fish like the Asians do, Im not going to criticize them for that. Being an American of Italian background some of my relatives eat tripe which I would never want to eat again.
