I actually think the TSA agent did a great job of explaining what she was doing, why she was doing it and did it properly. I dont think they thought the child was a terrorist I think this was more about drugs and maybe something showed up thats why they were testing. To be honest I hope they check everyone the same. There was nothing sexual about that and lets not be naive and think that a terrorist or drug smuggler wouldnt use a child.

Because that is part of their jobs too and if its an international flight they are to look for undeclared cash of more then $10,000.

When it comes to security of going in buildings, sporting events or airports I have no problem with them doing their job.

All this shit is a joke, anyway. If the scanners are so important, why aren't they always used?

I was going through an airport in January, I was next in line to go through the scanner. But the person operating it decided to go on break, and that was the only person who could operate the scanner. So they put me through the normal metal detector, no pat down or anything.

Of the 20 or so flights I've taken in the last 4 - 5 months, I've gone through the scanner three times. I've never been pat down.

If it's so important to our safety, you'd think they'd be using it a bit more.

Oh, this machine can take a picture of your soul, but you still have to take your shoes and belt off.

Really disgusting. Trying to say they are looking for drugs is ridiculous; they didn't do anything like this before a couple of years ago, if not less. Has there been a dramatic increase in drug smuggling on domestic flights that coincides with these new procedures? What if they find a bomb in the little girl's underpants? In this highly-unlikely hypothetical, wouldn't the presence of a bomb in the girls private area signify that whoever put it there was planning on detonating it to inflict damage and cause terror? If so, why not just detonate it in the airport before the screening, where there are more people than on a flight? This "security" does nothing to make us more secure. I understand that it's not our constitutional right to fly on planes, but it is a mode of transportation that our entire culture is dependent on, and this shit is totally unreasonable.

underdog

Also, it's not the TSA's job to look for drugs or anything over $10k. That is US Customs' job.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security responsible for the safety and security of the travelling public in the United States.

To me, it's obvious that this shit does nothing to prevent terror. What is the point of it? Recently, an airline captain posted his video of the illusion of this security, including footage that allegedly shows how easy it is for airport employees to get in and out of the boarding areas. Is this just make-work? In other words, is it just utilized to instill a feeling of security in the herd? We can't be this stupid. Hopefully, these incidents keep getting documented and exposed until this idiocy ceases.

His quote of liberty and security is right. Look at all the other countries like for example Spain. Are they using draconian measures after the 3/11/04 bombing? Russia had a suicide bomber detonate himself at one of their airports. If this happened here just wait and see how much more bloated DHS would be.

I think Pimpdaddy Franklin was into beer as well.

And if a child is ever used to place a suicide bomb on a domestic flight, I will never complain about what the TSA did or didn't do to prevent it. I will complain about the psychopath that placed a bomb on a child, also known as the responsible party. This concept that we can rule out all instances of tragedy is idiotic, impossible, and makes you the whiny one for wanting it. What if someone detonates a bomb in front of a government building and kills, say 168 people? Should the DMV be blamed and all vehicles be screened for explosives? What about backpacks at the mall? Lunchboxes at the preschool? Shoe soles at the Starbucks?

This just makes no sense to me. Why is it such a bigger deal if someone sets off an explosive inside a plane? If they do they obviously have the intention of dying with them. If thats the case they could easily kill just as many people if not more at the check in terminal before getting anywhere near the TSA. Why does doing it on a plane make it more profound??? If someone is willing to blow themselves up along with others its impossible to stop them. There are 1000 impactful places that can be blown up by a suicide bomber tomorrow if they wanted to and there is NO WAY to stop them.

I will NEVER cry for more scurity at an airport. I think metal detectors are enough. There will never agin be a hijacking of a commercial passenger plane. NEVER. I dont give a fuck if a guy gets an uzi on the plane. The minute he tries to hijack the plane hes going to have just about every passenger bumrushing him. WE are what diverts hijacking now.

Part of me wants to think that the same people who relentlessly go after TSA in online forums are the same types who are anti-cop - no matter what happens, they can't win.

Over Christmas, I took a cross-country flight. I was flying out of Philly and I heard horror stories about Philly's TSA. Several posts on forums had me really spooked.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. I sailed through security, no problem. In fact, I even screwed up putting Gwen's car seat in the scanner backwards. They were actually NICE about it.

On the way home, I was picked for a scan. I immediately opted out for the grope, mainly because I don't trust radiological machines that are built by the lowest bidding government contractor and I have no idea if they have been tested or monitored.

The TSA agent who searched me was incredibly professional, explained everything, and I didn't feel violated or ashamed. The only thing I asked him to do was change his gloves, which he did.
