Can Frank Watson keep the heat going?

So this girl is a femenist pop/spoken word artist on K Records. She got hired to write Lindsay Lohan's unreleased record because Lohan used to dance around and sing this song to Sam Ronson. Now The Blow does a really good stage show about it.

Also, if you like YACHT, that guy made a few records with her, and even though it's just her on stage with a lap top, she refers to herself as 'we.'

No Frank Watson. Interview with Michael Rapaport about his Tribe Called Quest docu, and it sounds like they may actually talk about how Tribe didn't want the movie to come out even after giving Rapaport permission to make it, because they thought they looked bad.

Radio Psychic: Ron talks briefly about how contemporary hip hop just doesn't have the same soul of 90s hip hop despite not actually listening to enough contemporary hip hop to make that judgment.

Two points: The idea that gets put out, that "they've made NYC different, expensive, safe, theme parkey" and its sterile and not conducive to art should be changed to "We've made NYC ..." by continuing to participate in the city, pay the prices, and sell the legend of New York you are enabling that change. You have to realize that if you live in a place that gets gentrified, and you dont leave, it means you're part of the gentrifiers. If you weren't you couldn't afford to stay there.

Second: NYC I think 'suffers' more than anywhere else from the internet. With heightened levels of awareness in niche forms of art, the ability to connect with others, and the ability to self produce and promote, the need for huge cultural hubs like New York completely changes. New York as a culturual empire is in its' decline, it will always be relevent but it cant continue to be the behemoth is always was. In my opinion the cultural hotbeds of the future are going to be mid sized cities close to sources of organic produce.

Manning, Esq.
06-28-2011, 08:21 AM
Really, another top-shelf interview. But, while I am a fan, and would likely leave on anything I'd find him on while channel-surfing, he did sound quite amped up, as Dell pointed out. Stilll, he was pretty focused, so the exuberance was bearable, as compared to some guests who just babble, switch tracks, monopolize, and keep babbling (no examples come to mind).

Would've been interesting to hear him talk about Chris Penn. I know, neither topical, nor timely, but I'd bet that Rapaport could chip in a unique perspective.

... Wis. being second only to Calif. in number of certified organic farms. I'm aboard, and would love to see your prediction realized. But, me thinks it'll be awhile before artists, media or otherwise, flock to Madison, WI, to join the fewer than quarter million residents. That is, until they see the rents for a loft "downtown."

Haven't seen Hot Coffee, yet, but I'd say that, yes, there are cases in these cases--including the caller's "shattered" leg. The question surrounds valuation. Suing when you slip and fall is not necessarily frivoluous. The frivolity comes into play when the awards are handed out.

This is not unheard of: couple gets into a wreck because they pulled out of a parallel spot without looking. Insurance refused payout for ~$40,000 in repairs and doctor bills. [Whether Insurance did wrong is another story.] Couple hires a billboard lawyer. Fast-forward two years, and numerous civic resources (dozens of court days), and jury awards couple $22 million. At least $21 million of that is frivolous.

If you stack his novels up you realize they're all basically the same novel just with different details plugged in. He uses the same little style tricks, he's really repetative, the characters are all essentially the same, but then he's kindof cocky about it. Blech.
