but it needs to be aired

i have lost sleep the last 2 nights
it is beyond horrifying

i admire the community
and am heartbroken for the parents

it was the first time they allowed him
to walk home alone and this is what happens

Yeah, that is beyond horrible.

As the father of two boys, I remember the first time each of them was allowed to walk home from school by themselves. I made sure they called when they were leaving and again when they got home.

When they were in elementary school I would would them to school even as I saw kids much younger than them walking by themselves. I know that I couldn't live with myself if something happened to them. Now I have to just kind assuring myself that they are capable of getting around by themselves.

what happened ?

9 year old Haisidic kid goes for a walk by himself on Monday, gets picked up by a stranger, kidnapped overnight, kid's body is found, half in a dumpster, half in the perp's fridge.

Perp is basically fucked in the head. Jared Loughner lite, if you will.

Oh, and he also worked as a butcher at a Kroger in Memphis, so he knew what he was doing when he dismembered the kid.

On the news they said you could hear the other prisoners who were waiting for their turn in court screaming at Levi Aron (the killer) as he walked on past them. This guy won't live long in prison for what he did.

The guy is clearly not well, but it's common for mental health issues to be ignored in that community...not to mention other issues like child molestation and spousal/child abuse. I have many friends who are/were working in the mental health community or are LCSWs and it's actually scary how often they run into the issues I speak of only after it was ignored or covered up for years and years.

I've been reading on Gothamist about how the community doesn't tell the police about suspected sex offenders because it's "not right" and the rabbis forbid it - they let the Shomrim Patrol deal with it.

Apparently this guy wasn't on the Shomrim radar at all, so he hid his issues very well. I'm sure his DNA is being run through all major crime computers to see if he matches up against anything else.

Your final point is really interesting. Could you imagine he gets tied into all those bodies out in Long Island or something like that? If something like that goes down, will there be outcry on how these people are hidden in their communities? Do they get in any trouble at all for hiding this from the authorities when they actually do have knowledge of crimes and abuse?

Obviously what I meant was that when something goes ignored or untreated into young adulthood, by that time it's almost impossible to treat. And if it is treatable you need way more therapy than if you were a child.

That remains to be seen. But yes, this is the problem when you have a 'tight community' like the Hasidic's have and keep certain things secret, these things are bound to happen.
