My commentary for the day is I'm a little bothered by people's reaction to Steve Job's death. I think we're a little too enamoured with the tools, and not enough with what the tools make. Apple's greatest legacy seems to be the rampant consumerism it validated. Buying a product is not an event, an iPod is not a song, an iPad is not a book. I'm being contrary and cynical, and I recognize that here is a man who did a lot of amazing things with his life, but I think everyone on your facebook making the joke that "I felt like I should wear a black turtleneck and jeans to work today..." is just happier about all the little things they can buy and show to people that mean I have style, I like music, I'm young, I'm funtional, I'm current.

What I find interesting about him is that he basically knew when he was going to die. I mean I guess he must have had a different perspective on life after surviving the first time he got really sick, but he knew he was dying... enough to step down a few months before his death might have ruined his company and handed it over.
