Happy New Year PESTS.

Did anyone listen this morning? There was a very uncomfortable discussion starting with Opie asking which two colors can you mix to make Yellow. There was the usual gentle prodding towards the answer by Anthony and silence by Jimmy, whereas since yellow is a primary color, you can't do that, much to Opie's insistence that we just haven't figured it out yet.

He also had a lengthy conversation on Justin Bieber's auto-tone on Let It Be. There was none. No one agreed with him.

Both of these conversations seem to be cut in the afternoon replay.

yea, i didn't listen to any of the show this morning and i just heard both of those short discussions. No one was on board with Op and he even padded his criticism by saying, "listen to the auto tune....it's subtle but its there". If its subtle, than who cares?

and yea, the mixing two colors to get yellow.....I think he was trying to get all pot talk about it....As if he was trying to say, we can make the color yellow, but because of how we interpret reality we just can't see it maaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. or something like that.

OK, then I missed them this time around. For a moment I pictured Opie telling someone to cut those out so he doesn't have to sound out of his mind twice in one day.

Funny how both Ronnie B and Opie are trying to distance themselves from the names of their show and stake it out on their own.

I wonder what Opie plans on doing after the show is over? I still think him and Ant put on a show that is much better then the rest of the shit that is out there. I know they hate the politics etc at Sirius, but end of the day would podcast anonymity be any better?

They talk a lot about the hype the Corolla and Marin have, but NO ONE in main stream knows or talks about them. When is the last time you were at a party and someone mentioned a comedy podcast? At least when O&A were on terrestrial or doing major bits on satellite like homeless shopping spree they were in the main stream media.

Agreed. None of my friends outside of this community listen to it or even have a clue who marc marin is.

it is such a niche thing right now, no chance pride wise do I think O&A can go to such a small medium compared to even satellite.

Everyone I know has heard of Marc Maron but no one has heard of O&A or R&F. WTF is huge right now. Many discussions at holiday parties that started with, "been listening to podcasts lately, Marc Maron is my favorite"

In fact, for all the years I have listened to R&F, I have never bumped into someone who knows about R&F. This includes my years in DC where I thought they were pretty big.

Aside from what everyone else is bringing up on the popularity of the WTF podcast, he also is getting written up in newspapers, magazines and a bunch of year end best of lists. Also, The Nerdist just did a year end TV special, Paul F Thompkins was writing popular American Idol recaps, Kevin Smith does whatever he does etc. So podcasting is really starting to break into the mainstream. If O&A jumped to podcasting perminantly it would also be a huge story mediawise.

Now, having said that, it will never happen. Opie's plans for after the show being over will probably be retirement, because he'll be 60. They like the money, they're never leaving. they bitch when they dont have anything to talk about, and they dont do show prep, so you do the math. Dont believe the hype, we're the unhappy rebels is just a nonsense act.

Maron IS a big deal among people who listen to podcasts. It may be true that the paid podcasts aren't generating the revenue of an radio program, why would Maron care about heavy revenue when he can run his own audio equipment eliminating the need for engineers and producers? Why would he care when the podcast is a mostly paid-for form of self-advertisement which helps him generate box office on the comedy club circuit?

Opie can't do a podcast, certainly not by himself. Not that it isn't physically possible, but he won't know how. He cannot get out of the midset of radio dj even on satellite, he's still stuck in the old ways of radio. He needs callers, bits, wacky characters, topical segments that last about 30 minutes or so and breaks and a whole staff to spoon feed him material. And the lack of all that is exactly what I love about podcasts. As much as he says their current show is just "a hang", it is for the comedians and some guests, at times, but not for him. He's still trying to force a topic or a bit or look for "whattya got on this" kind of moments from people and it's just so unnatural to regular conversation. He'll even try and uncomfortably force Jim at times to go into a bit about trannies, or hookers, or having his chest shit on etc. if some guest just mentions anything remotely close to a subject like that like he's looking for him to have a 10 minute bit on it at the ready and can "run with it". "Uhh, funny you mentioned hookers... Jimmy likes the uhh... you know... uhh.. right Norton? Tell 'em". Ugh, it's so unccomfortably forced. Besides, who would he drown out by loudly overtalking when they're making a point that makes sense or just trying to get a sentence out?

All of that shit that he ISN'T doing, is exactly what I love about podcasts.

He is being paid for both courtesy of AdamEve.com, Audible.com, Just Coffee Coop, TNT, MyDamnChannel, and a bunch of other sponsors. Not to mention, many NPR affiliates syndicate his show (PRI, I think). It is naive to assume he is not getting paid for his show.

Forgot to add that when his "jokes", and I use that term loosely even with the quotes, completely bomb, it's because you're the idiot. And when he says something genuinely utterly retarded and someone calls him out on it, they're the idiot cuz they don't get the bit. I bet when he crashed his bike as a kid he probably was the "I meant to do that" kid.

I think it was all about picking it up - they sent a semi truck to my house as I was giving them pretty much everything I owned. When they saw the couch they said we cant take that - I think that they had somebody complain of back problems due to the weight of the couchbed that they picked up from another address from before.

His chick works too. This isn't a Dave situation, where there is just one income stream. (not knocking Casey, it's just a different situation with two incomes and no kids)

I mean, I agree on both sides:

1) Sam is a man-child who spends money on stupid things (wrestling tapes, toys, etc) but won't get a decent TV (and, might I add, probably just got an extremely reduced or even comped engagement ring for his chick)

BUT

2) O&A telling him how he should spend his money is very douchey.

Little side story:

My father is a brilliant man, but he's very set in his own ways of doing things. His stubbornness is a trait I unfortunately inherited.

That said, when my brother got a 42" HDTV, I had to outdo him and I got a 46". My dad said "Fuck all y'all" and got the 60".

But here's the rub:

He won't pay the cable company extra for the HD, and won't even call them to negotiate a better deal to get HD at the same rate he's paying now.

I finally re-wired his TV so he could get OTA HD channels, but it was UNBELIEVABLY stupid for a while.

I especially like how O&A and little Jimmy complained so much that they didn't get credit from Bill O'Reilly over the Sniper/Jesse Ventura story. But they are the first one's to complain when a news organization claims credit for a story or god forbid puts their logo on the video they broadcast.

Didn't they play a Little Jimmy song the other day that had lyrics about "me me me, it's all about me me me" ? (http://youtu.be/jr81CrtZF3g)

I wouldn't call it a lie, but they definitely did a disservice by being so "PC" (for lack of a better term) about the spread of AIDS, especially in the 90s and early 2000s. The highest percentage of people getting HIV or AIDS were young black females and gay men, but they painted the situation as if everyone was on equal ground.

Factor in the late starts with the early leaves, and then add in the 15 minutes of commercial breaks per hour, it's maybe a 2 hour and 45 minute show of actual live content at best. And don't count on the live reads and pre-produced bits as live content. Bullshit, it's filler. There's like 4 pre-produced bits for the breaks. They start on a small one, go to spots, then "come back" with at least 2 if not 3 old as fuck "bits" that have been run into the ground forever. Fucking Steve C still is the voice over on the majority of them and he's been fired for almost 2 years!

And if you record the show for later listening, they set up the return as like a 5 minute segment, 4:30 of which are those tired old bits and then 20 seconds of a song loop from somewhere around 10 years ago, and then about 10 seconds of speaking. Just enough time so that if you had fast forwarded over it, you'd be what seems like in the middle of a conversation, so you tend to think you're missing 5 minutes of live material.

But hey, who are we to question the workhorses? The ones that still have the passion to do radio, as indicated by statements like "I hate the listeners". But we're the haters, I guess. No hypocrisy there at all.

HAHA - these memories of what we thought sex was when we were kids is great..

My nephew and his cousin (girl) were about 4 years old or so and my Mom caught them lying in bed. They didnt know that Mom was there and she said as she stuck her head in the room looking for them that my nephew looked over at the girl and said "You mother fucker?" and the girl replied so nicely "yea, me mother fucker". Then they pulled the covers up to their necks and just layed there for a minute. Mom then made them get up and asked what they were doing and he said "sex" and the girl shook her head yes to agree. Then they wondered off watching cartoons and normal kid shit but my Mom said it was so weird and also cute at the same time.

Crazy that they knew the words mother fucker though

I remember when I realized I could make the cumzies that I thought I was a man - I told a few cousins and friends of mine that I could get a girl pregnant now. I felt like king of the world for at least a summer - even though I wasnt too sure how to make a girl pregnant yet...

Just subscribe to his YouTube channel. It's all the studio videos and no terrible Opie jokes.
Btw when I was following his terrible twitter feed I would always think back a few years ago when he would passive aggressively say things like 'yeah sure, cause I'm not the funny one, right? Or I don't bring humor to the show, right?' like a petulant asshole and make everyone uncomfortable in a non fun way. And that gucking twitter would just make me think what a perfect justification for all that shit.

Green seemed to take awhile to warm up to the BBBoys today. Came across a little akward when he skirted the Drew talk. I'd have to agree with him, though, that we really don't need to drag it up. It was worthy that he stayed in for so long.

To see whether Ian and Green are one Canuck and the same, Google It.
