So there I am with my buddy, shit faced on white russians, holding a brand new one as the movie starts and Jeff Dowd is standing next to me. As the movie starts with the fantastic scene of The Dude writting the 69 cent check at the grocery store, Dowd leans in towards me and my friend and goes, "Now see, a lot of this movie is total bullshit, but this scene here; this actually happened.....a lot". Doesn't get better than that.

Thats cool. There are Lebowski fests all over, I think the original one is out in the midwest somewhere. They're also doing the white russian gimick here, entrants get 1 free, and have a DJ prior to the movie which is on 35mm. It's sponsered by the tattoo parlor, salon and cheesy ass ed hardy style mens grooming salon in town. That's why I feel like it's going to be every year, they also do Jaws and Rocky Horror.

watching Batman 2 again for the first time in years is very strange. There are a ton of really weird moments in that film. Between Danny Devito and Chris Walken the whole thing is a lot creepier than you might remember.

The earlier talk of some classic jersey theater reminds me of the Loews paradise on the grand concourse (Bronx) which apparently reopened in 2005. Simply a beautiful theater. Went there a few times in college right before they shut down in 1994. I think they just do small concerts there now (like the Hammerstein ballroom).

I think it's more normal in the north east because large groups of immigrants settled into ethnic neighborhoods all next to eachother. The further you get out into the country, where there's more space, it gets more dilluted. It also doesn't help that the louder ethnicities, Irish and Italian, settled the north east.
