Remember the little nuances - dont chew gum, be about 10 minutes early, turn your phone off, maintain good eye contact, dont over answer any questions.... things like this.

When I interview someone they already are qualified for the job or they wouldnt be sitting in front of me. My job is to catch the little quirks or personality traits that we look/dont look for.

Try to ask a few questions about the job or company at the end - interviewers like that.

And most of all - dont be nervous.

I recommended hiring a woman the other day that was barely qualified for the role but won me over with her confidence and attitude.

I drive a Durango, before that a Dodge truck (which I totaled). And yes, some parts are still made here, but there are as many american made parts on a Honda as on a Dodge. Since NAFTA a lot are made in Mexico.

If you were asked to answer questions about someone you knew well and liked - how easy it is to talk about that persons accomplishments? So easy, but some people get messed up talking about their accomplishments etc. You are your best promoter. Without being cocky you can and will let the interviewer know why you deserve this job..


One question I always ask is name a few strengths that you have and then after they answer, name a few weaknesses.

You wouldnt believe how many stumble on this question. Ive even had people tell me that they have no weaknesses - and I immediatley write "dont hire" down.


if someone asks what brought you here? Be honest but not 100%. if it is just for more money? Dont be honest but if it is the stuff you are doing now that you can stand anymore - stress that you want a challenging role with a proven and stable company that will reward you with more responsibility as you grow with the company. ETc Etc.

Remember, you have already passed the toughest test, they know you are qualified, now sell yourself on why they need you over other candidates.

I don't disagree with what you're saying about popular vote, we are not a democracy, but a represenative democracy.
I was just defending the south a bit, attitudes have changed for most, no doubt influenced by the influx of retirees. Though the most racist thing I've heard since moving here came from a guy from Jersey, I was sitting at the inlaws house watching Golf with 3 men raised in NC, all in their 60's, all were Tiger Woods fans, there neighbor, a Jersey guy comes in all drunked up, bitching about us all rooting for that......well you know.
