Pitching duel going on right now for the rights to this series. Romero rebounding nicely thus far and hopefully he gets this win.

we have some kid in the 5 spot. Bard is the 4. Felix Doubrant is the 5. Partly cause the amazing Jonathan Lackey is out for the year. they should start Aceves and let Bard close though, i agree

THANK you. Bard was groomed as Pap's heir apparent anyway (remember the talk years ago about making Pap a starter?) and he has two pitches in his arsenal so it's doomed to fail. It's a matter of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". They used Andrew Miller as a starter last year and he was due for a better year. This is also why I miss Wakefield: he was a good insurance policy to have in a situation like this.

Your Jays are looking pretty good spoon.

Yah he did look sharp the other day, but wasn't HE in the 4 spot and Bard last nigh was in the 5th? Did I miss something or are you just giving the true ranks, like how Drabek pitched in the 5 hole but is our actual #4 with Carreno/Laffey in a #5 rotation until McGowan gets back...which seemingly never happens.

Well I know they say be careful what you wish for, but I'm hoping this inning is it for Lester. He's dealing outside of one inning with a few hiccups. Glad Romero is on a nice count and hopefully will not only get the win, but go the distance.

Too much bullpen use early with the first two going 28 combined and needing the pen a lot of late.

Romero isn't getting much either, just a well pitched game overall.

Yet I am surprised to see Lester out here in the 8th. He's up to 109 now, but 2 quickly down. 15 in a row may be what V may be thinking. Seems a little long a start for the second start, but the guy is a bull no doubt.

spoon

Lester's been good but hasn't gotten any run support.

Bottom line, that's what happens when you're matched up against the other teams ace almost every week until the schedules get a little mixed up later. Both Romero and Lester aren't true bonafide aces just yet, even if they have the stuff and makeup. They just have to assume the role/position a little longer and both are clearly their staff's ace though. I like the way Romero rebounded here, and Lester has back to back impressive starts.

Side not, Davis is fucking fast.

mine wasnt so much a safety team. It was realizing that living where i do, being a sox fan, that people would get even MORE pissed if they knew i also rooted for Atlanta. it was partly the mets, but more so, YANKEE fans hated atlanta fans in teh 90s almost as much as Sox fans. So it was natural and easy. Esp cause they were on TBS every day back then.

And no matter how much i love the sox number 1 in my heart, my favorite player ever will always be Ron Gant. And i specifically mean the Atlanta Ron Gant pre breaking his leg fallin off a motor scooter

THE SAME RON GANT THAT WAS PULLED OFF THE BAG BY HRBEK (i think) in the top of the 9th in game 7 against minnie in 91 and was called out anyway cause the ump is a fuckin asshole. They woulda won that game if not for that BS

The problem is the ownership group still lives off the whole evil empire bs. That's over. It died 8 years ago. Instead of running it like a winning franchise it has become a lot more about pumping up the ratings and not totally what's happening on the field. Let the bs sellout streak obviously end, the ratings have to be tanking again. Establish a legit baseball opps. Not a team president who spends half his weekends going to FA cup games or auto races in some hayseed town.

Report: Beckett golfed before missing start (http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7911759/report-josh-beckett-boston-red-sox-played-golf-2-days-missed-start)

It's fried chicken and beer all over again!

What's the big deal about this ? It was obvious to me that Beckett "missed" that start because the Sox had to get Aaron Cook up on the major league team or they would lose him. It happens all the time that teams put players on the DL (or skip starts) with phantom injuries.

Even if he really did have a shoulder problem, I don't think he would have golfed if it was too bad.

I just checked out the article.

It is even sillier to complain that he played golf BEFORE he missed the start. Is the press trying to say players shouldn't golf during the season ?

The fucking media in Boston is just trying to create a story to fill all of the time on their broadcasts.

He declared early in week hed been playing "hurt". If they wanted cook up they should have gone six man for a week, or sat buchholz or bard. Not their best pitcher this year.

Are you serious?

The amount of torque a golf swing puts on your back, knee and shoulder is huge.

It can hurt a healthy guy let alone one with back and knee problems.

Carl said he needs tommy john it but it won't affect his play. His reasoning is if he gets the surgery he's out till next year. So he's gonna give it a go and if he blows his arm out he'll get it then. Rehab is a lot shorter for a position player.

Hey Cody Ross, when you're playing right field, and you wave Pedroia off on fly balls, FUCKING DIVE AFTER THEM.

And one of the many things I hate about Bobby Valentine is that he NEVER gets in the face of an ump. Aviles (I think) beat a throw to first and was safe. Does he go out there and stick up for his player? Of course not.

And firing pitching coach Bob McClure made a world of difference didn't it?

Every day when I think they hit rock bottom, they find new ways to reach new lows. Like I said before, Pedroia is the only one trying and I wish he'd call it a season before he does any more damage to his hand.

The Red Sox would get rid of Beckett and Crawford any way they can. They'd be thrilled just to not have to pick up a third or more of Crawford's remaining salary. Gonzalez I think they're less enthusiastic to part with, but as incentive for Boston to move him I think the Dodgers are agreeing to take on Crawford and Beckett with Boston probably picking up at least some of the salary.

Fuck this team. If they trade Gonzalez, I'm done.

Run two people out of town, hire a clown manager, leak "stories" about the locker room and make the fans turn on the players, then dump all the salaries. The ownership for this team is a bunch of fucking scumbags.

Fuck this team. I'm going to start rooting for the Nationals.

I doubt he would. A chance to go back to the NL and get to the playoffs? Also to get out of Boston right now would be like getting on one of those first lifeboats off the Titanic.

though i agree with your sentiment, im fuckin sick of AGones bullshit too. Complaining last year they play too many night games, too many games in general. Then not hitting and then letting that text go and then acting like he didnt know. He has been a faggot behind the scenes ever since he got here.

But otherwise, i completely agree. Good thing ive been done with baseball as a whole and dont really care anymore. Even if they were good i wouldnt care, but this shit just makes it even easier

Plus if they are able to drop a bunch of salary, they will be more likely to be able to afford re-signing Ellsbury after next year (if they don't do it quicker)

Gonzales hasn't been a problem for the team easily their best player, but to get rid of Beckett and erase the Crawford mistake this is a given.

Agreed, it is the price the Sox have to pay. And apparently this Pitcher Rubby De La Rosa they will get in return is a true top of the rotation pitcher.

you know what, this aint a bad deal at all

Dodgers have agreed to send the Red Sox James Loney, Allen Webster, Jerry Sands (.303/.380/.533 in AAA Albuquerque), Ivan De Jesus (.282/.277/.559 in two years with the Dodgers), and Rubby De La Rosa ( 3.71 ERA in 13 games in 2011 with 8.9 SO/9; he is fresh off Tommy John surgery) in return for the big three and Nick Punto

Sands is a pretty decent prospect, he can hit the ball pretty well and play some 1b along with OF. And De La Rosa has a chance to be a really solid pitcher. De Jesus is ok i guess but im pretty sure he is the oldest of the prospects

Who cares?! That money is a drop in the bucket to what the Red Sox bring in worldwide.

I want an owner that treats the team like a toy, not like a fucking investment.

They're going to blow up this team and fill it with AAA talent. But at least they won't be spending money! And then they'll raise ticket prices again so they can "pursue" talent.

Beckett will do well in the NL West and lead the Dodgers to the World Series.

The Sox get two really good pitching prospects, still keep Lester, Bucholtz, Pedroia and Ellsbury with a good chance to resign Ortiz so I like the deal.
