Ron and Fez Listening Thread 4/26/12 - Something for Everybody

It is not funny. It was barely funny when Booger pulls out the monster joints in "Revenge of the Nerds" and hasn't been funny since. My hatred for drug humor is the cheapness of the delivery of the joke in movies.

It is like the opening scene in "Orgasmo." The two guys go to the door of a seemingly nice old lady and, of course, she cusses them out like a sailor. It is so obviously about to happen it is not unexpected and is just not funny.

The Melk list of comedic gags that need to go away:
1) People smoking marijuana as a comedic moment (outside of Cheech and Chong).
2) Old people and children swearing.
3) Seemingly proper white people speaking awkward Ebonics (other than in Airplane. Though if there was a movie where a black character went from speaking Ebonics to speaking like a Three Stooges-era blueblood, right on).
4) Characters falling down in childrens' movies and love comedies (almost never funny).
5) Women hitting men as an act of revenge in love comedies.
6) The old switcheroo. Wait, if my child's lunch is in my bag of weed then.... uh oh! Cut to the kid being awesome at school like marijuana empowers coolness like spinach empowers Popeye with muscle.

If you want to know where I got my hatred for drug humor, watch the 1980 season of SNL or ANY old TV standup routine from between 1979 and 1982.

although, I will say, Grandma's Boy is my favorite comedy of all time but while everyone in the movie gets high, it doesn't really have that goofy slapstick lets get high moment. Also, this is the funniest campy drug montage ever.

My problem with pot humor in movies is that a lot of the humor boils down to the same two or three gags.
1) Oh my god, he is smoking a giant bong.
2) His eyes are really tightly shut and glassy.
3) They are going to get a lot of junk food.
