Apparently you're right and Ron and I both were wrong in different ways. I was thinking about them not being allowed to be deployed abroad and that's what I got confused by.

But I think constitutionally, they are not allowed a standing military as the result of WWII. Like Germany during the Cold War, they were allowed a defense force.

everything south of Waco is south of NM, if you find yourself in El Paso, you can drive up to NM.

i love the downtown area here but it's almost on the water and we have a ton of big hotels right on the water that those people empty out off and make driving in the area very slow but only 2 more weeks and i can go back in the area

N. California is full of cool little towns. Two that I thought of today are Fort Bragg and Quincy.

Fort Bragg is on the Mendocino Coast. It is an old logging town, but the mill shut down a few years ago, so there is the prerequisite implied danger of unemployed blue collar white people in meth/weed country that adds to the fun. North Coast Brewing is there and they have a restaurant across from the brewery. Excellent King Salmon and Albacore fishing, sunsets, whale watching, old railroad trestles, funky hippy shops, diners, etc, and a cool beach that functioned as a garbage dump decades ago, so that now all the little pebbles you see on the beach are actually little smoothed pieces of different colored glass.

Quincy is an old mining town in the Sierras, so you have that steep foresty mountain vibe and a lot of wild west ambiance, coupled with that vaguely threatening blue collar white thing again.

Homer up in Alaska is definitely a cool town, too. But just about every town in Alaska is cool, except for Anchorage, which should be the sister city to Oakland.
