I managed to make it throught that discussion because I wanted to hear what Ron was talking about as far as them bitching about the company, but then they moved to politics and race and I couldn't shut the player down fast enough.

I used to think the same thing until I made it myself and it has a lot more flavor than just the sweet on sweet. This has dark chocolate and some spice. This year I'm trying it with burbon and golden syrup instead of just corn syrup. It's very custardy.
And the butter pecan I'm getting is from the local small batch made fresh daily place so I expect it to be extra good.

Whenever someone is doing attention seeking behavior, like Fez, Opie gets really mad. He force laughs, slow claps, he lets us know that he's had to deal with 'these kinds of people' all his life and he just wont take the bullshit anymore. In short, Opie makes a real spectacle of himself to let you know that he disapproves of attention seeking behavior.
Opie is so immune to irony you could call him The Wrinkler.
Then he smashes something and talks about how he's going to quit his job every summer for three consecutive contract cycles. Thats his power.

I've gotten two tickets in my life. Never felt like anyone was trying to get me, or that the cop even had any choice in the matter. I rolled a stop sign and the cop saw me and gave me a ticket. I sped passed an affluent over 50 community and the cop saw me and gave me a ticket. I managed not to take either of these personally, and I understood that when the cop told me to not speed or not roll stop signs he was required to.
And I dont believe Opie threw his ticket out his window. I believe he sat there and sulked and then probably went home and was probably overly snappy at his wife.

Yeah, didn't buy him throwing the ticket out. Also, don't see how a cop is a dick for not taking PBA cards. Really a fucked up thing that they do; sets up a system with two sets of rules.
Got two tickets: speed trap and making an illegal turn my navigation told me to make. Cop sitting right there. Got out of a third for rolling a stop sign after the cop found out I was leaving the hospital with my kid in the NICU after he was born. That was nice of him.

It seems that they wanted to do a 20th anniversary boat trip and this is what the company wanted 350k to clear. I dont know about the price but I do see how doing something on a boat would be expensive as hell. I imagine you have to carry all kinds of extra insurance, especially for a booze cruise which I imagine this would be.

From what they were saying it wouldn't have cost the company anything (like they had sponsors lined up already or got someone to donate services) and the company was looking to profit off it. And for that sort of thing the boat would have their own standing insurance, I'd think, or any booze cruise you went on would cost thousands (if they had to pay 350k for insurance each trip).

I dont know. I just find it highly unlikely that the company said ' we'll only do this if we can profit 350k so you need to pony up.' Because they would just sell tickets if they needed to turn a profit.

It's dishonest to present that A&E suspending the duck dynasty guy has anything to do with moral obligation or pressure. He made comments that made him a liability to profits, and thats the only reason he's gone, and I'm sure gone only temporarily.
You cant say people are being irresponsible for not wanting to watch a show with a guy who says something that offends them, that doesn't fall into the 'you have the right to be offended.' Sure you have a right, not an obligation. So can you really say A&E is doing the wrong thing by protecting their interests?
For example if it came out that this guy was a convicted child molester they would get him off the show. Would O&A be saying 'you know you have a right to be offended by watching a child molester on tv..' It's the same thing.

so, we've come to point where outspoken conservative Christianity is a crime, comparable to a crime...people can be offended or choose any other reason to not watch the show, it is their right...it is what the capitalism is based on (except when a monopoly exists)...Christianity was the subtext of the show and people that find Christianity equivalent to a crime were probably not watching it

I'm not comparing fundamentalism to a crime at all I'm saying that taking any action which interferes with the earnings potential of your product makes you a liability and thats why you get suspended. I'm not saying it would be immoral for A&E to take no action, I'm saying it's bad business.
Ok, here's another example. Dunkin Donuts commercial got pulled because people noticed that Rachel Rae was wearing a scarf that looked a lot like the scarves the Islamic fundamentalists where. No one thinks that Rachel Rae, Dunkin Donuts, or scarves are inherently Muslim but it is a distraction. The commercial comes on and people dont say 'dunkin donuts commercial' they say 'hey, it's the scarf commercial.' Now the commercial is broken so you have to pull it because it loses you money. You pay to advertise a scarf and not a donut.
It's the same thing.

I agree they have a right to get rid of him (obviously) and hope the show implodes because of this whole thing, honestly. It's nothing new, so no one should be shocked. It is a bad thing in general to fire people for their thoughts and words, especially on an issue that is pretty evenly dividing this country. If a fox personality got fired for saying he was in favor of gay marriage and/or homosexuality, there would rightfully be a huge uproar.
The worst part of this was how his comments were portrayed in online articles. Everything I saw said he was equating gay sex with bestiality and I was ready to condemn him with everyone else. When I heard what was actually said, it was WAY less controversial than that. He was talking about sin and saying he believed homosexuality was a sin, as was bestiality, as was sleeping around and cheating on your spouse. No rational person would say this was equating bestiality with cheating on your spouse, but somehow it's ok to say he was equating the first two? HUGE stretch by gay advocates there.

I hate the whole idea of commercial censorship, but the facts in this case are very simple. A&E didn't give a single thought to Christianity or homosexuality. They know from past cases that, as a business, they will lose money if they don't punish the guy. They aren't in business to stand up for an individual's right to express his/her opinion. They are in business to make money. I'm confident, they don't give a fuck about either side. It's a shitty concept, but it's just the way it is. And it will never change.

Actaully, I get the point but that example doesn't work. A&e couldn't give two shits WHY you're watching, just that you are. (But again I get the general idea)
I don't think it would cost them viewership in the least and they only suspended him (for now) to squash any controversy.

a subtext of the show was their Christianity, and they will lose some fans because of A&E's action against Phil...they won't (they hope) have a boycott of the other 99% of their shows as a result of A&E's action against Phil

Oh that is simple, bias. Layer upon layer of brainwashing bias.

And your opinions and lifestyle weren't shaped by your beliefs and upbringing?

It's called thinking for one's self and seeing through centuries old controlling bullshit. U never heard of it until 25, you sign on and join the cloth, no fucking chance outside of down and outs looking for false meaning in their lives. Why do you think religion focuses on prisions and the poor. Sure, there are plenty of good people in all religion, but what they do it in the name of, and are softly endorsing in its name (woman's right, gay rights and so much more) is trash.

Want me to just change the title to 2013-2014, or start a new thread? Or can you do that stuff from your phone?

No edit from phone. Start new and move 2014 posts?
And thanks in advance for merging the room threads. :)

You shouldn't be, I just accidentally deleted all the posts from this year, when I tried to move them. I moved them, then noticed that the first one was from 2013, so I decided to delete it. I didn't see until it was too late that if you delete the first post, it deleted the whole thread. Now, they're all gone.

Stop posting in (presumably) locked threads; it's (presumably) mean.
Oh, no reason. *whistles and walks away*
