End of the line for my lifelong friend

My 17 year old mini dachsaund re injured her back and I found her unable to walk a little bit ago. She is scared and I think that it is time. I thought that it was the end last time but I don't want to try and nurse her back only to have her face the same pain in a few months.


I scheduled the euthanasia for 4. I was a mess last time she injured her back and I think I got most of it out of my system. Trying to keep it together to not scare Heidi and keep her comfortable.


I have never done this so don't know what to expect. But losing one of the things I care most about in the world does not seem like fun.

Right after I type this I hear her stumbling around. She managed to get up but just keeps stumbling into things and falling. She is doing laps around the kitchen bumping into walls and walking like she just drank a 5th. Almost to tell me look I am alright don't do it man. I still don't think it is right to let her go on if she can't even walk, or do her business on her own.

I feel for ya man, I had to do it last dec , hardest thing I've done in a long time. Glad to hear you hung with her, it's tough to do, but after a long journey together, you have to go the last mile.

So sorry to hear JW. Dogs are nothing short of awesome companions and being there for them when it is time is our duty and you were. Never easy, but man what a great long run you guys had and remember the great times with the lil pup!
