I'm pleased and happy to repeat the news that we have, in fact, caught and killed a large predator that supposedly injured some bathers. But, as you see, it's a beautiful day, the beaches are open and people are having a wonderful time. Amity, as you know, means "friendship".

Christians disguised their own holidays with pagan ones to avoid persecution, it isn't quite the Catholic holidays are a sham as implied. And ofcourse you have secular celebrations too.

You're lucky they don't read the listening thread. (amirite, DS?) You'd be on the "pending restraining order" list.

Not a gripe but a legitimate intellectual question, Why do people, like Ron, have such a problem with fictionalized aspects of true stories like Zero Dark Thirty or Argo but gush over realistic fiction like this movie?

Because you're putting it out there as a true story and telling fiction. I get it. Taken to an extreme you get schlock like Pearl Harbor and titanic.

It's just arbitrary to me, no matter how 'factual' the script is you're watching actors in costumes working on sets in front of a crew. It's all fake.

All the Redskins comparisons just sound silly to me, I get why you might want to keep the name but at the same time Redskin is an undeniably derogatory term. It isn't hypothetically like all of these other examples, it's an actual, current, active racial slur against a very specific group of people.

So is eyewitness testimony.

People's perceptions and memories are laughably unreliable.

Once you add the need for a narrative arc, you are firmly into the realm of fiction.

"Fighting" is also a traditional sports name, and it is a university with Irish roots. It isn't Fighting Irish because Irish people have tempers any more than Fighting Phillies has something to do with angry horses.

Oh ofcourse it's always people in Oklahoma who want to change it. Yeah motherfucker, that's where we put the reservations, remember!
