How about we worry about solving a problem in the place where it's happening instead of just being self righteous and pointing our fingers around at all the other shit that's going on.
And yeah the NRA fights to keep private gun sales untraceable and without background checks.

i think a big part of the issue here is that people think that the gun laws that apply in their state are actually federal ones. "oh, everyone has to regsiter when they buy." No hun, gun shows do not have to follow the same set of rules reguarding background checks when selling weapons to people. also, its legal to cross state lines where gun laws are less strict and purchase a firearm.

ok. i know and grew up with A LOT of criminals. yes, im talking even people who may have commited murder. they will ALL tell you that you DO NOT want a stolen gun. you want "a gun without a body", meaning you want a gun that you know has no chance of being connected to another murder. that means new guns. you get people who are clean aka straw buyers.

There's no Mollys in the bronx, or detroit, or camden, or East St Louis.
Another reason why this isn't a national problem is the city has to take care of it. The people and issues are specific to the city, federal intrusion is only going to make South Side peopel defensive. And Federally we are ill equiped to take care of a city level problem like this. Every city is broke, it wouldn't be fair to send resources just to Chicago.
The story is a national story, sure. But Ron is really downplaying the extent to which it's covered. He sure as shit heard about it through national chanels and he's in the media, so I dont get the media finger pointing.

That caller is making a good point. There are a lot of students in public school that are just running shit. Teachers are terrified to discipline anyone because they turn around and make up lies about being beaten and immediately, the teacher is fired and investigated, and their reputation is ruined. Teachers have zero authority anymore in the schools that have these problems.

The reason Chicago is now the focal point is that most other big cities (starting with, but not limited to, NYC) have gotten a much better handle on the random crime problem so it really stands out. I don't know enough about the local issues there but I suspect that Ron is right that it will take some big & coordinated action to break the existing equilibrium of insanity that holds sway there at present.

When my little sister was in h.s. there were police in the halls. Her school was not a horrible one in terms of student behavior, etc and no teachers were assaulted. That being said, the teachers would call "student safety" cops for the smallest thing, and they were arresting students on the regular. If the teacher didn't like you, you were fucked. Ask the cop why they are being asked to turn out their pockets? Slammed on the ground, cuffed, and arrested for resisting arrest and a bunch of other shit.

I've heard first hand accounts of teachers being assulted in charter schools that don't have a seperate security presence where the student is not punished in any way out of fear over false accusations and threats from nutty parents who think they're child is a perfect little angel. Ahh charter schools... they are privately run and for profit even though they that TONS of money from the city and close the local public schools. The any grievances the teachers have need to be brought to the CEO that owns the company. Also, since charter schools are private institutions, they cant be held to the same minimal educational requirements to which public schools are held. That power of the free market and all that...

You're overlooking a very strong physical/athletic element.
I dont downplay the physicality or legitimacy of those acts, but the equipment is so integral to the competition I dont count them.
Like nascar is a competition of who can drive those cars on that track the best, not who can drive the best period.
For example in bike racing or golf, sports to me, if you give a pro functional equipment he will always beat the pants off of joe schmoe using pro level equipment. Where as in nascar if you put me in a car that does 200mph and a pro in a geo prism I could beat him. Skill and experience still existed but they can be so negated by the equipment thats where I draw the line.

You should see the Bruce Lee video of him doing it.

That looks neat (had to google it) Was going for any music songs with any kind of ties to sports. I can think of only a couple.
Again... Capoeira. All the songs sung are either about the history of the sport, the places or people in Brazil, the instruments, players, or other aspect of the game.

Well that is a tie in (stadium songs). I'm more on the line the song itself has sports

Also, I do consider jockeys and drivers to be athletes, they just compete at something other than sports. I respect them.

he's a better actor than Jamie Fox and Cuba Gooding and Russel Crowe, I'd say it's got more to do with the rolls he's taken.
