I'd like to get a vasectomy. Is there a consensus on the best method? I've read there are different ways to do it. Is there any significant rate of failure for them? Does it hurt? Will they try to talk me out of it because I dont have kids? Is there anything else I need to know in general?
And if you ever want to open a vasectomy clinic, or want to make a vasectomy joke "All Due Deferens."

or "What's the Deferens"?
There's been a lot of hype about the "No Scalpel Vasectomy" but it is just a technique that uses a very sharp pair of scissors that replaces the scalpel. To do this properly, you have to somehow enter the nut sack, find the vas deferens on both sides, cut the dang thing and make it so it can't grow back together again. Lasers are just scalpels made out of light that BURN through things instead of cutting them with steel.
So no matter how it's done, it's going to hurt, at least with modern technology. I can imagine someday they'll inject some cement or sclerosing solution into the vas and a true no-scalpel technique will be born, but getting the tip of the needle into the right place when the tube is so small and everything is so squishy will be difficult.
My vasectomy hurt for about 4 days. I wore a nut cup (like they make for catchers, you can buy them at "Dick's" Sporting Goods which is fitting) and had very little discomfort.
Make sure you shave your own nut sack the night before; my doc didn't tell me to so I had the pleasure of having a dude dry-shave my balls with a daisy razor.
hope this helps

Are you implying that the scalpeless vasectomy is more difficult to do correctly?
And how long are you fertile after you get snipped?

I don't physically emasculate men, sillybuns. It's emotional--all done with sharp wit and a saucy look.

Steve,
Is there any truth to the fact that an OBGYN can refuse to "fix" a woman after giving birth?
My chick just had her second (my fourth) child back in December.
Since we had both decided that this would be our last, I repeatedly asked her to speak to her doc ahead of time about tying her tubes after the birth.
For whatever reason... it didn't happen.
In the moment, I had forgotten about it, but afterwards I questioned my chick on whether it had happened (who knows what they're doing down there after the baby comes out), and I was told "no". That, because it was Friday afternoon when the baby arrived, they could not do the procedure. It would have to be scheduled at a different time, she would have to be put under again, etc., and that at this point it would just be easier if *I* got "fixed"
So now it's on me.
It's too late to change the past, but I'm just curious if I am being bullshitted about why it didn't happen to her right then while she had had her epidural and it seemed like there was an opportunity.
Back to topic... is it true that my chick has to give consent to my having a vasectomy?
Does it matter that we're not legally married?
If true, does she have to speak to my doc in person? Sign something?
Any recommendations on what questions I should ask, or qualifications I should seek in a doctor / surgeon?
TIA,
oz
