I didn't watch a second of any oscar broadcasting but the women folk are out in full force on this one. I was thinking that when they said no one cares about the pre show stuff, there was far more traffic in my social media for the oscars than anything else this year.

Yeah it's not great. There was a while there the show had a real absurdity that worked but I think someone got to him/them and said you really need to develop a POV to be taken seriously. So now it's like fitness/MMA/self help most of the time I put it on, and they had a falling out with the guy who was Ellis' sidekick who brought a lot of silliness in.

It comes out in other places too. At one point he was talking about how they should be on morning replays because who wouldn't rather hear him replayed than the morning DJ. The morning DJ is terrible but I thought that gunning for someone elses job who had nothing to do with you was pretty terrible.

He does think he owns that channel and is really dismissive of any ideas outside of his own.

There is a funny Maria Bamford thing where she's talking about the stigma of mental illness and how people dont treat it like other illnesses that goes

But really it's all about fear that you will not be in control of your own thoughts and actions so you stigmatize people in that position as weak and aberrant. One of the really good things they do on Mental Illness Happy hour is read these surveys listeners take and the point is to illustrate that all the stuff you feel, think and experience is actually pretty common no matter how horrific you think it is.

Wait... I take that back. Now that I think about it, I rarely listen while actually streaming. I download albums while I'm at home using wifi. When I'm out the house, I listen to the downloaded content, so I don't rack up data usage on my phone. I'll have to experiment with the streaming this weekend.

The consensus is irrelevant. You're never going to get all the transgendered people to vote on it so the consensus will always be up for debate. And even if you did have a consensus and went with the consensus you're still telling a group of people that you dont respect their wishes, you're just trying to shed personal responsibility for it. What's at the heart of my logic is that you will almost never be in a position where you can make everyone happy and while I understand and respect the pragmatic desire to just navigate social interaction in a way that avoids these pitfalls I dont really think it's possible. It's faulty to place the onus of this desire on the people who find themselves offended by a choice of language. I say everything I say and I will deal with all the fallout from it as my responsibility. That will sometimes include declining to change or admitting that I dont know what the right thing to say is.

I would probably get annoyed if someone felt the need to describe my physicality so often that I was compelled to pick a standard terminology for myself. I'd probably be thinking how seldom it's relevant to describe my height vs. how often it gets done.

I'm totally with Jimmy on it though. They spent a solid hour on cronuts yesterday and however much time on other shows and Roland sneakily torpedoed the guest to protect his donut connection.

From his account, the guy or his wife cancelled and he didn't fight it. He was all hurt Roland didn't have faith in them to not torpedo the interview. Why would he? Fuck, jimmy went IMMEDIATELY into motherfuck Roland mode "I don't care if he's pissed" at the drop of a hat. He has ZERO impulse control and shockingly thin skin, no matter how many times he'll tell you comics can take anything. Heck, he was passively shitting on the cronuts guy this morning "No, I'm sure it would have been a great interview. Tell us how you bake things. Zzzz."

It's like when people would try and think of the best gift to buy them. I remember when they first started on XM wackbag was talking about buying them an espresso machine because they bitched about the coffee so much. And it's like "Why, so they can smash it to pieces? Do you not listen to this show?"

I think Roland did not want the guy coming in, maybe because of the teasing or maybe because he always was protective of him, and he jumped on the first opportunity to cancel instead of trying to make it work.

I know, I've done the same thing. When you dont want to do something you find reasons not to do it. My mom once asked me if we should go to Saturday night mass and I said "I dont know, it is pretty windy out."

But Jimmy's argument and mine boils down to him being hurt that Roland didn't trust him. Plus, I'm sure they were getting this guy in as a favor for Roland, a I have no problem with him taking his ball and going home. It's not like it was tom cruise and Roland told him to fuck off.

I think the favor to Roland is the heart of it. Jimmy gets butt hurt because he was doing Roland a favor and then Roland pulled it back. Not the most rational thing but I think I probably would've been pissy too.
