Could not possibly ask for more from Chacon today. 8 innings, 4 hits, NO runs... absolutely brilliant. He's been great. So great he might land himself a spot in our bullpen! (that's sarcasm, for the spoontally challenged.)

I really like Bernie in the 2 spot. I think the move has benefitted not only Bernie's game, but Cano's too.

Now can Boston or Oakland please lose a fucking game?

I thkn its safe to say the Mo trian will be pulling in during the 9th. Holmes has like 125 pitches so far, that be a lot of pitches.

It's funny to watch you agree with all the moves that work, and blast every move that doesn't. You sir are the master of the obvious. I don't know why George hasn't called you yet to replace JT? Your staff would be in worse shape then it is now before the all-star break and Giambi would have been cut with the spanks just taking that financial hit.

Holy Christ! Why does Johnson have such a boner for giving up homeruns? Back-to-back-to-back... Pathetic.

*EDIT: Make that 4 HRs in 6 batters. Johnson leads the AL by a longshot, giving up 29 longballs. This game's done.

Somebody explain this to me... Torre's inconsistency with the pitch count rule is amazing. Randy Johnson has had back problems, he's 41 years old, and this game is all but over. He threw 110 pitches through 7, but started the 8th inning. I thought that 100th pitch was the absolute cutoff point, and this game was wasted in the 4th inning. So with basically no realistic chance of winning this game, why put RJ out for the 8th if he's already peaked well over 100 pitches?

Godzilla is the most clutch guy on the Yankees. There's no doubt about it. No one keeps a level head like him. Matsui is the guy I want at the plate with the game on the line. I'd put Bernie or Jeter in a close 2nd.

And it was very nice to see Escalona contribute. I'm happy for him, he looked thrilled.

Also, satisfied with Leiter's outing. He went longer than he usually does, and looked very solid. Hopefully he can stay vintage Leiter instead of go back to giving up 6 runs in 5 innings.

Four players of the game tonight:
Matsui
Bernie
Escalona
Leiter

Nah, the lesson is that making a pitcher meant for starting, will never develop the stuff to be a shut down closer. Don't get me wrong, he's been pretty decent, but he doesn't have the pitches in his arsenal to shut down good teams night after night in close games. He's meant to be a starter through and through. But when you don't have a true closer (ready yet), you need to adjust and the Jays have done their best this year.

League has the stuff made for a power closer. He just needs to get his arm angle down for more consistency and more big league work in order to get acclimated to that level of hitter. The Jays probably would have been better off keeping Batista as a starter, and giving Spier, Fasor, and Chulk chances as the closer.

Well, I'm just going from the perspective of Torre. If it were up to me, I'd definitely start him the playoffs. But from everything I've read and heard, Torre seems more prone to start Moose, Unit, Wright, Leiter... simply cuz Leiter is "playoff tested." But if Chacon keeps this up, that could change.

One thing about Chacon. He's been terrific, but Sterling made a good
observation in todays game. The 4 walks he gave up were all to lefty
hitters. So he tries to stay away from leftys.

Nothing wrong
with that, El Duque used to do it all the time. But in the playoffs,
you'll want to pick your spots with him. If he's facing a good hitting

This Lawton move is the the mistake of the season. It's clear to see that Bernie is only good at the plate when he's playing center field. He doesn't hit SHIT when he's DHing. Ever since he started playing everyday centerfield, his bat has exploded. And after the superb game that he had yesterday, it's a bold-faced sign of sheer disrespect to have Lawton in the very next DAY. Now let's start the mix-n-match game again, while there's a division race and a wild card race going on. Terrific.

And this game going on right now is disgraceful. A 3-0 lead against the Kansas City Royals should only get bigger. I'm sick of these 19 year old nobodies coming in and shutting down the Yankee hitting. And that 5th inning was horrendous.

Also, a couple of line-up changes that I would make if I were Torre:

Matsui goes back to #5. There's nothing more dangerous than Sheffield>A-Rod>Matsui. That order FORCES pitchers to pitch to Sheffield and A-Rod. Who's gonna pitch around A-Rod when you're just gonna have to face Matsui next? Matsui being in the #5 gives A-Rod better pitches to hit.

What do you want your lead-off and #2 hitters to do? Get on base. Correct? You put your 1 and 2 guys on, so your 3,4,5 guys can knock them in. And who constantly draws walks and has the highest on-base percentage in all of baseball? Jason Giambi. Isn't this just basic logic?

Bernie in Center, every day, period. Yes, it's a liability in center, but it's a liability that MIGHT cost us 1 run a game. That's not a big enough liability to cost us his effectiveness at the plate.

So in summary, Matsui back to 5, Giambi in the 2-hole cuz he gets on base more than anyone, and Bernie every day in Center.

Bernie is by far the worst center fielder in the
MLB. Anything that can be done to limit his time in the field is a
plus. Furthermore, has anyone heard anything on Ruben Sierra? Don't you
think it would be a good idea to add outfield depth in case he doesn't
come back, or even if he does. I don't want to see Bernie or Sierra in

Yes on Matsui, no on Giambi. I love Matsui as a #5, Giambi's too slow
to be clogging up the bases with a speedy guy like A-Rod behind him
(and a guy with decent speed like Sheff). They'll be running into each
other. Let him and slowpoke Posada bat back to back.
Good point on running speed, but still... you gotta put the guy with highest OBP in baseball in the top of the lineup. Especially since his streak of power-hitting has disappeared as quickly as it arrived.

I'll agree with Bulldog. Matsui should be at 5, and
I'd put Giambi right behind him and either Lawton or Bernie at 2.
Lawton's a better OBP guy and has better speed, but Bernie is a better

Lawton sure has traded up this year...Pirates to the Cubs to the Yanks. He underperformed during his stint in Chicago (but who the fuck DOESN'T), but he definitely wasn't useless. Patient at the plate, fast on base (though can make some REALLY sloppy steal attemtps, which might hurt in an actual playoff game) and solid in the OF. Smart move on that trade for both teams, since the Cubs need some young pitching options and a possible backup 3rd baseman with Aramis Ramirez's health issues.

Yah Bama! Who the hell would even think this of Giambi? Oh wait, even little league players who used to love him and idolize him now hate him. Keep those Yank specs on BC! As much as our hate blinds us, your yankee dick sucking has helped you lose all your senses. He deserves every piece of speculation he gets. And there are countless human growth hormones out there that can't be tested for yet without blood tests. If he was clean, and truly wanted to end speculation (just like Sosa, Bonds and others) he'd perform the blood test himself and have it published with a real apology. Then I would believe him a little and respect him a tiny bit again. Until then, fuck him and the rest of the cheating pricks. If he was a Jay I'd hate him just the same. Think, just for once.

Yeah I saw on MLB.com... Sounds pathetic. But the only good thing I can think of is, he will not be an everyday player. He's not about to come in and take Cano's spot, and he's not an outfielder (though he's played OF a couple times). He'll just be a bench warmer and a utility player.

As far as Mussina, you could read his lips. He said "Goddammit" when he saw Torre come out of the dugout. He was not a happy camper today.

The Plague of the 2005 Yankees: We just can't beat last-place teams.

Remember the days when playing a last place team meant automatic sweep? Remember when playing a last-place team meant batting practice, winning 12-1.

This year, our absurd all-star lineup is just perplexed by last-place teams. I can't explain it. No one else has trouble with the Mariners, as evident by thier 90 losses... but we just can't figure them out.

Spoon, if you haven't realized at this point that one of the Yankees' biggest roadblocks this year has been beating the bad teams, you haven't been watching baseball. Their inability to conquer last-place teams has been a talking point for them ALL SEASON. Deny that, and you're just being ignorant. Familiarize yourself with situations before you pretend to know what you're talking about.

dumb/moron is a push, I think. If you meant what I said about
Steinbrenner, its just that he's done so many good things for people,
in a very personal way, that most people just dont hear about. ESPN.com
has a list of the 10 worst things he's done, and many of them pale in
comparison to some of the his charitable acts. Plus if you're a fan of
his team, you appreciate the way he stops at nothing to give you a
winner. And he can be a tough and sometimes irrational boss sometimes,
sure. He's a complicated guy but I think unfairly maligned. And one
thing we can all be sure of. Yankee fans, the NY and National Media,
and Baseball will miss him when he's gone. And at 75, thats not far
off.

I for one am in favor of both those moves. I do, however, not feel comfortable about Small against Boston, and Proctor becoming the seventh inning man. I would much rather see F-Rod in the seventh inning, as much as that might hurt to say. As far as Small, he's been absolutely incredible but that isn't going to last. This is a 30 year old pitcher with mediocre stuff who is on the hottest streak of his life. I feel the Yankees should ride it out as long as they can, but at the same time they're playing with fire and Boston might be the team that ends Small's luck. Leiter belongs in the pen, no question, but Boston has also been atrocious against left handers all year. It's a tricky situation.

You know, Wang is NOT having a bad outing. 3 runs over 5 innings isn't horrendous considering it's his first start off the DL in 2 months... But our offense tonight is just an absolute EMBARASSMENT! How the FUCK do you explain this? We're seriously getting SHUT DOWN, 1-2-3 in every inning... against Mark fucking Hendrickson, who has a 8-7 record and an ERA of 6. We have ONE FUCKING HIT TONIGHT! Absolutely inexcusable.

ALright lets get this straight now. If Wang can pitch like he did before the DL I say we got Wang, Chacon, Small and someone else in the playoffs. These 3 are clearly the best, most consistant starters this year. To bad we couldnt get Halsey as our 4th man.

Might be the best game Randy's pitched all year, especially when you factor in the competition.

You could tell by the way he was throwing (and sneering) out there he was going to have a good day.

Now we just need (fucking 6 in a row) Cleveland to lose.
