That is the saddest character I have ever seen in a cartoon. Just sitting there with the sad clown poster on the wall.

I'm surprised they didn't do an episode about Twitter or something newer than Facebook, they usually like to keep it super current since they can turn out an episode in just a matter of days.

Time to laugh everyone, they just showed Tom Cruise doing the same gay gag as before.

Don't strike your knees too hard comedy fans, there's Mecha Streisand again!

Every season has this kind of dull, ham-handed preachy episode. South Park criticized Family Guy for pushing gags without an advancement of the plot. I suppose they rent the same manatees.

The previous two episodes were really funny, but "200" is just rubbish (so far).

To be fair, their "Passion of the Jew" episode was over-appreciated.

Or did they cover their asses? And why am I starvin for Denver Bronco Chille?

brettmojo

Judging just by the number of times they bleeped out Muhammad I would think for sure that was part of the joke. They seemed to go out of their way to say his name just to bleep it out.

The "Hey, we all learned something today..." bleeping... Yeah, I don't get it either. Unless they were just going for the whole ridiculousness of censorship thing.

Judge Smails

My gut feeling is that the bleeping of the name Mohamad was mandated by Comedy Central. If it was supposed to be a joke, why wouldn't they have done it last week? The bleeping at the end was probably Matt and Trey's way of pointing out the absurdity of the situation.

Here's a statement from Matt and Trey, posted on SouthParkStudios.com, confirming the beeps weren't their idea:

A Statement from Matt and Trey
In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it.

Wow, Comedy Central can go screw.

I have to agree with Comedy Central on their censorship. Mostly, because I don't want my window exploding and then getting sucked out into the street below.

These fanatics that issued the "statement" are based in NYC. Comedy Central is located in Times Square which is has been a hot target since 9/12. Perfectly plausible that someone could make a martyr out of themselves here.

The first problem in this scenario isn't censorship, it's the fact that these guys live on our soil. Freedom of speech and all, I think Comedy Central has a right to be a little cautions when dealing with these assholes.

we'd get to beat our women

and all the gays and jews

i might be changing my tune

I have to agree with Comedy Central on their censorship. Mostly, because I don't want my window exploding and then getting sucked out into the street below.

These fanatics that issued the "statement" are based in NYC. Comedy Central is located in Times Square which is has been a hot target since 9/12. Perfectly plausible that someone could make a martyr out of themselves here.

The first problem in this scenario isn't censorship, it's the fact that these guys live on our soil. Freedom of speech and all, I think Comedy Central has a right to be a little cautions when dealing with these assholes.

I like you generally and dont want you to take this personally but that may be the biggest pussy post Ive ever read.

If you dont like living near a target LEAVE FUCKING NEW YORK. It will always be a target because its the biggest, most publicized city in the fucking country. It makes the front page if a mouse shits on the mayors fucking shoe. If you want to feel safe go move to fucking Boise, Idaho.

All Comedy Central did was show these guys "Hey, if you threaten us, we will bend over backwards to do whatever it is you like." Thats the message they sent. Americans are fucking weak.

Were you one of those kids that just gave the bully your lunch money every day because you were "just trying to avoid a situation"? Because thats not how I was taught. I was taught when someone tries to bully you around you tell them to fuck their mother, and if push comes to shove you punch them dead in their face. I just cant understand this complete prison bitch attitude. I dont give a fuck if it means they blow up 1000 more buildings. I would accept that alot more then bending over when these animals make demands.

It's all a big scam. Bunch of America-based poseurs talk some shit and CC and the SP boys milk it for all it's worth. Watch, you won't see the episode on TV for a while but they'll hype up the DVD like crazy.

And safety first is smart! Are you going to punch someone in the face if they tell you to look both ways before crossing the street? Relax!

Thats not even close to anything weve been talking about. And while they may be using this as hype for more money, the bottom line is it sends the perception of weakness and willingness to bend to fear. I would just once love to see a tv or network executive with some balls. A boss willing to stand behind their product and their employees. You just dont see that much anymore. Not just in tv but in business in general.

Season 14, Episode 6 - “201?
It’s a tense situation in South Park as Muhammad has become the pawn in the game to save the town. The Ginger kids are threatening to destroy the city if Stan and Kyle don’t hand over the Prophet and the celebrities have met violence with violence by unleashing Mecha Streisand. In the midst of all of this, all anyone really wants to know is, who is Eric Cartman’s father?
Was this 200?
There might be some mix up.

I'll agree, but there have certainly been better seasons.

"Sexual Healing" was forced and dull. If it weren't for the glances every male character gave the women in the room when talking about the causes of marital infidelity, there would be nothing to talk about regarding the episode. "Scrotie McBoogerballs" was passable. "Medicinal Fried Chicken" was great. "You Have 0 Friends" was a classic.

I just think it is a shame that "200" and "201" will be remembered for their role in making a Muslim fringe group issue threats to Matt and Trey when they were lousy episodes.

"W.T.F." from last season was probably the worst one in recent memory so I guess I can be happy that there wasn't a mountain of press surrounding that episode.

Like someone said earlier, 200 and 201 were basically creatively done clip shows to commemorate a milestone. Considering the creative way it was done, and the lesson that was SUPPOSED to be learned, I give them alot of credit for those 2.

Scrotie and the Tiger Woods episodes were "meh" but the rest of the Season definitely entertained me. Still better then 90% of the schlock on tv.

i agree with you - I would have loved for them to have shown Muhommad and told the radical Islamists to go fuck themselves. But, now they are supposedly hiding out and worried that one of those idiots might blow themselves up next to them. They are pioneers of pushing the limit on what you should or should not poke fun at over the years but when true violence can be probable - maybe they should have left it alone. Oh and Comedy Central will hit $698.4 million in 2011. Up almost 10% from 635.7 million in 2009. 2010's figure is expected to be $663.2 million, up 4% from 2009. It became too expensive and took up too much programming time! CC wanted to keep the show, but they wanted to produce much fewer episodes per season and air it fewer times during the week when it came time to renegotiate the contract. If you remember that final season of MST3K on CC it was much shorter than the rest (only 6 episodes). The MST3K guys got a better offer to do full seasons from the Sci-Fi Channel and went with them instead! It's basically a show that could only work on a channel desperate to fill programming time, unfortunately!

First off, Im not sure if you are talking South Parks ratings or Comedy Centrals ratings as a whole, but the numbers I got were from an article that I just read today regarding Jon Stewart and his feud with Fox News. So if Comedy Centrals having money problems, then all their projections are wrong.

Secondly, Not one time was it said that episode was censored so not to anger advertisers. You are the first and only person to claim this.

And Third, if that was Comedy Centrals true reason for censoring the episode....it makes no sense. Since when is the fucking muslim community such an important consumer??? I dont have to be an expert to know they censored a tv show that helped MAKE THERE FUCKING NETWORK. Before South Park was on it Comedy Central was about as popular as MTV 3.

The reasons cited were reasons THEY GAVE TO THE PRESS. So if those reasons are wrong, its not me falsely assuming, its them blatantly lying. They are quoted as saying they censored the episode out of safety concerns. I didnt just make that the fuck up.

And it was cowardly. Regardless of the true reason. It was an act of cowardice. I dont need to be a network executive to know that. Just because they have a reason for doing something doesnt make it right.

So you can keep the pompous "bigshot" routine. Your job in the Comedy Central mailroom doesnt impress me.

Um, yea South Park did make THEIR network. They were shit before 1996. I think they were still playing random clips of stand up acts for hours at a time before that.

And is that youre argument? That there is nothing we can do about it? Because I think we all pretty much knew that. Doesnt mean I have to like it. Doesnt mean Im not allowed to complain about it. And I just get angry when people defend cowardly actions. Not just from tv networks but in life in general. Ive never beena fan of bullying, so maybe thats why this kind of shit sets me off.

You just don't know how the business works. Pre-1996 cannot compare to 2010. Comedy Central would love to have rating percentage increases like they had pre-1996 right NOW, but there will be no loyalty to a show that has lost it's numbers. That's the same with any show on any network.

I also have never presented an argument. I saw you having a tizzy over this and I try to explain to you why, but you continued to tantrum like an 8 year old (and spell like one too, see "youre") and then question my facts on the subject. Don't believe me? Do a search on this board and you'll see I've schooled many on the subjects and television, ratings and the business in general.

Sorry if you felt that was "bigshot", but that was just how I would explain it to a child.

I love when a guy points out a random spelling errors instead of addressing my point. Keep being a pompous ass.

Youre not schooling me on anything. I dont remember asking you any kind of tv questions. You are making points up that you claim to be true, such as saying that Comedy Central bowed to advertisers by censoring 201, when these are claims that have not been brought to the publics attention by anyone else. I havent seen advertisers mentioned in one story done on this. So basically you are telling me I should believe you over every other news source that reported this story. What exactly do you do at Comedy Central again?

And I have presented an argument. My argument is simple. When a group uses bullying techniques like DEATH THREATS to try and determine what you show on your network, you ignore them. That was my point. It wasnt hard to understand. Im not talking about loyalty. My point in this thread has never changed. And Im not throwing a tantrum, I just curse alot.

South Park may not be doing the numbers it did in the late 90's but its still one of the networks highest rated shows. You act like its nothing to Comedy Central. If thats true why dont they cut it loose? Im sure there are plenty of networks that would LOVE to have it.

Um, I severely doubt most major tv networks would edit one of their shows if a group threatened death to the writers because they didnt like what was shown. I could just imagine FOX changing around an episode of 24 because muslims didnt like being portrayed as terrorists and threatened to kill the writers. That isnt the same as ignoring it, but not doing what they say may as well be the same thing.

And sorry, but Im just going to go ahead and believe every major news source that reported this story and said that the show was edited for safety concerns rather then to appease advertisers rather then believe the guy that gets Stephen Colbert his coffee.

And I know exactly how corporate America works. Thats why I run my own business. Two of them actually, rather then EVER work for a corporation again. So you can keep your orientation. Go out and hand out your flyers without me. Im good.

This doesn't have to do with catholics and jews. This is advertisers not wanting to be associated with this Muhammad nonsense. People in Europe died because of it. There is a stigma attached to it and there are lawyers and salesmen right now making sure none if it sticks to us.

I just feel the company has a responsibility to its employees and the work they do. Comedy Central did the same thing any corporate company does when presented with a employee vs. customer problem, they said "Fuck the employee". Its the coporate way. There was a time when the customer wasnt always right. When companies stood by their employees.

The bottom line is, regardless of why they did what they did, perception is reality. And its public perception that a muslim group threatened the tv network and they caved. You cant argue that.

Employee? You mean Matt and Trey? They can take their product to another network if they'd like... but where? MTV Networks owns most of the networks where it would fit, so there would be no where to go under new management. Most other networks won't touch that content due to advertisers' standards. Of course the customer is always right - advertisers are Comedy Central's customers.

Your perception is your reality. What the public thinks does not matter to their bottom line, which is money. That's my whole explanation. You can call it caving to pressure or a pussy act or whatever... it doesn't matter. Only a +15% increase in sales year to year does, or else the suits get axed. Public perception of this kind is irrelevant.

Um, what I said is thats a corporate way of thinking. It rewards whining and complaining. I happen to disagree with this way of thinking completely. To me each situation should be looked at seperately and handled as such.

Im against any kind of logic where every situation is handled the exact same way. But hey, thats just me.

How would the bottom line not involve people? It's not like the SP guys are the only people employed b CC!

I wasnt even talking about this case. I was speaking in general terms that in corporate thinking the bottom line comes before people. An example would be a company firing a guy thats been with them 20 years because through raises and such he makes a certain salary and the company can hire a new guy to take his place and pay him half of that. I mean, they could be doing fine and making money while that loyal employee has his job, but they can make even MORE money by getting rid of him.

Its a way of thinking where money and greed become more important then things like loyalty, respect, and gratitude. Hey some people have no problem living that way. Personally its not for me.

Trey and Matt intentionally censored the "message" at the end of the episode. Sure, the times the characters said Muhammad during the show were bleeped separately.

1) The sine tones used to censor Muhammad and the closing speech didn't match each other.

2) The closed captions for the episodes didn't bleep Muhammad and the final speech was just a bunch of bleeps.

I think Trey and Matt were playing their fans for rubes.

They were parodying Looney Tunes villains.

There was Elmer Fudd, Beaky Bird, the lion who wanted two lumps of sugar with his tea, and the Of Mice and Men characters the Warner Bros crew parodied to death.

There was an episode of Bugs Bunny where Daffy rigged his Xylophone with C4 and had him play the tune the kid tried to play with the banjo. The gag ended with the same result.

I wonder how many people go (to Casa Bonita) just like I did because of South Park
Around the season that the Casa Bonita episode of South Park aired, my brother noticed the Casa Bonita home page. I took out my cell phone and called their number. An employee picked up the phone:

Employee: Thank you for calling Casa Bonita. May I help you?
Me: Oh, my god. Casa Bonita exists?
Employee: Yes, we do. Did you see the South Park episode?
*Hung up and laughed*

A few months later, when my younger brothers went on a road trip to Las Vegas from Chicago. They decided to check out Casa Bonita since their path crossed Colorado. One of my brothers, the driver on the trip, ended up getting ridiculous indigestion from their tacos and ended up spending the rest of the ride home in the back seat in the fetal position.

He was not a fan.

I agree.

Not overly funny in that I laughed a lot but just a brilliant episode.

i was thinking the same thing......actually, i was seriously wondering if they used the actual explosions from the 9/11 footage of the planes hitting the building. those explosions didn't look very "south park-ish"......they looked like real 'splosions that the shopped into the scene.

They have been using over the top explosions for years.
I loved the line relating to Snookie
"That thing is famous? Why?"
"I don't know!"

hahaha yea, that part was awesome.

Did anyone else catch the Teen Wolf homage when Kyle first starts turning into a Jersey guido?

and i'm pretty sure that scene where they find "the snookie" was from a horror movie. I'm not sure which one, but i was thinking The Thing or 30 days of night or something.

angrymissy

Yeah it is from a movie, I can't remember which one, but it's a fairly recent one.

I think they tacked on killing OBL at the end to try to avoid a shitstorm.

i thought they just did it cause they knew everyone would be sitting there watching it and waiting for it to happen. i know i was.....i thought it was a perfect ending....when randy goes, "we got him!" i laughed my ass off. hahaha best episode since Whale Warz which was my other favorite.

I didn't understand that line. If they mean 10 months until it's been 10 years, they are off by a month.

It's probably a callback to that whole thing from the "Jared has Aides" episode where they determined, using some formula I don't recall off the top of my head, that AIDS has been around long enough to finally be funny. Maybe they're saying that based on that same formula, in 10 months 9/11 will finally be funny as well.

I don't know. It would be a weird formula. AIDS was around for a long time before that episode. I think they just got their math wrong. Then again... They are just 4th graders.
