Let's get a beer, Mojo. We agree on something.

Also, even if he DID spit on the ball, let's take into account the fact that he probably threw that actual baseball once, maybe twice, before getting a new one.

Yeah, I don't really believe he would be that blatant about it either and if he was doing something, I think we would have heard something before now.

Pitching him today makes him on normal rest for a game 7 if need be. That's why it makes sense.

Apparently, he likes himself some of the man-ass. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I love how no matter what... Any baseball discussion always comes back around to the grab ass.

Did people seriously expect the Yankees were gonna run the f'n table through the playoffs?
Not with Girardi and his fidgety bullpen maneuvers.

This is what you aren't getting Matty. I am not really pissed that they lost. Im pissed the way they lost. If you lose the game with your best possible guy out there, you tip your cap and say get them next game. But when you lose on a blatent idiotic move, it pisses you off. Roberston was pitching great and has MUCH better stuff than Acaves.

It was one game. And perhaps he was trying to keep pitchers fresh for today. You don't know. Stop panicking like we're down 3-2.

It's not panicking... But it's that you don't really need to give the Angels wins.

BTW, the Aaron Boone game is on MLB Network right now.

After the Yankee post-game show on WCBS last night, I turned on WFAN. Malussis was hosting.

Exactly.

Because we yell at a obvious idiotic call we are bad fans? What the fuck is this IRAN?

What if CC did not have it on 3 days rest and got bombed? The Angels would have had major momentum and the Yanks would get tight and said here we go again.

Remember this team has a bad history with them.

We got lucky that CC is a beast and saved our asses.

And like Mojo said, what if he does this garbage again.

Maybe CC wont be there the next time to bail us out.

JimBeam

I've never seen a game with umpiring this bad that somehow hasn't affected the game yet even slightly.

The only argument there is that it flips the lineup and allows extra batters.

Sure it could be said that nothing would've come of the game even if the calls were right but it's tough if you're on the losing side of that.

The VERY FIRST CALL I hear is someone complaining... ABOUT GAME 3.

I'm like... the Yankees just DESTROYED the Angels in Game 4... and you're still complaining about Game 3?!?!
Wait, so... You're saying I'M responsible for retarded callers on WFAN? Sure thing, buddy...

I don't really care who wins the series, but I'd like to see it go seven.

That way, if the Yankees do win, Sabathia can't start Game 1, and it fucks up their whole rotation...it might even mean they have to add a fourth starter.

Were this series to go seven, you'd be looking at Sabathia pitching some combination of Game 2 or 3 and Game 5 or 6, possibly on short rest on both, depending on what Girardi does.

The only way he could pitch three times would be if he went Game 2 on three days, Game 5 on three days, and Game 7 on two days....not likely.

It would also mean Burnett or Pettitte, whoever would start Game 1, would have to throw on three days rest in Game 4, or they're going to have to tap Gaudin or Chamberlain as the Game 4 starter.

It would be a potential mess for them.

I know this is probably the wrong thread, but no one is paying attention to the other baseball threads right now.

In last night's game (I forget the specific situation), there was a man on first and the catcher dropped the third strike. I thought that if there is a man on first, that the batter cannot try for first. However, in this situation the batter ran to first and was narrowly thrown out by the catcher. What is the official rule? I seem to remember something about if the runner on first was trying to steal second, that in that situation only could the batter try for first on the dropped third strike.

Here's the rule from the official MLB rulebook -

"6.09 The batter becomes a runner when ... (b) the third strike called by the umpire is not caught, providing (1) first base is unoccupied, or (2) first base is occupied with two out.

"When a batter becomes a base runner on a third strike not caught by the catcher and starts for the dugout, or his position, and then realizes his situation and attempts to reach first base, he is not out unless he or first base is tagged before he reaches first base. If, however, he actually reaches the dugout or dugout steps, he may not then attempt to go to first base and shall be out."

Marc with a c
10-22-2009, 05:43 PM
if there is two outs you can advance on a dropped third strike if first is occupied. it doesn't matter if the guy on first is stealing, first is still considered occupied.

I get it that as a manager you want to be positive and want to avoid harping on things that go badly but it kills me every time, after a pitcher's poor performance, I hear him say, " Yeah looked good ... "

No Hughes never looked good last night.

He faced 4 batters and 3 of them reached base.

The stars are aligning. First the rainout, then you lose tonight, then CC can come in and win a big Game 7....making him unable to pitch in the series til Game 3.

And theres nobody Id rather have then Pedro pitching in Yankees stadium. Hes a gamer, and real gamers play better surrounded by hate.

Just dont fuck it all up and give this series away like you guys did to Boston. I have no interest in seeing the Angels in the series. K?

Be careful what you just might get it.

Pedro's not getting the Game 2 start.

He'll get Game 3 at CBP, so he can pitch around the lineup a little better with the pitcher's spot.

Hamels will get Game 2. Phils will go with the two left-handers at the stadium to try and neutralize the left-handed power with the short right field porch.

"In search of victory, she keeps eluding me
If only we could be together momentarily
We could make love, and make history
Why won’t you visit me, until she visits me
I’ll be stuck with her sista', her name is Defeat
She gives me agony, so much agony
She brings me so much pain
So much misery, like missing your last shot
And fallin' to your knees
As the crowd screams, for the other team
I practice so hard for this moment, victory don’t leave
I know what this means, I’m stuck in this routine
Whole new different day, but the same old things
All I got is dreams, nobody else could see
Nobody else believes, nobody else but me
Where are you victory, I need you desperately
Not just for the moment, to make history"

Heh

Angels win tonight, Yankees win tomorrow.

That's what I'm pulling for.

Yanks would have a bigger mess of the rotation for the series than the Angels if it went seven. Here's some of the possibilities:

Yankees
Game 1 - Burnett vs. Lee
Game 2 - Pettitte (three days rest) or Gaudin or Chamberlain vs. Hamels
Game 3 - Sabathia vs. Martinez
Game 4 - Gaudin or Chamberlain (if Pettitte pitches Game 2) or Pettitte (if Gaudin or Chamberlain pitch Game 2) vs. Lee (three days rest), Happ, or Blanton
Game 5 - Burnett vs. Happ or Blanton (if Lee pitches Game 4 on three days rest) or Lee
Game 6 - Sabathia (three days rest) vs. Hamels
Game 7 - Pettitte (possibly full or three days, depending on previous games) vs. Lee (three days rest) or Martinez

Angels
Game 1 - Kazmir vs. Lee
Game 2 - Weaver vs. Hamels
Game 3 - Lackey vs. Martinez
Game 4 - Saunders vs. Lee (three days rest) or Happ or Blanton
Game 5 - Kazmir vs. Happ or Blanton (if Lee pitches Game 4) or Lee (if Happ or Blanton pitch Game 4)
Game 6 - Weaver or Lackey (three days rest) vs. Hamels
Game 7 - Lackey (if Weaver pitches Game 6) or Weaver (if Lackey pitches Game 6) vs. Lee (three days rest) or Martinez

I passed out from it.

I'd rather face the Yanks. Their pitching is hoorendous, and their manager is very dumb.
