I still don't own season's 4 and 5. I just have them on my computer. I may as well and just give away season's 1-3.
I'm rewatching the series again from the beginning for the 8th time.

I think that is the most underrated season. I still liked it a hell of a lot. Show's great, but I didn't really get hooked hooked until the third season... stick around, it gets crazy better. That "Bodymore Murdaland" view of the Domino factory is so gone though, just like in the show they developed condos so you can't enjoy the view anymore (at least not from the Visionary Museum).

I recently got the Sopranos complete box set for xmas - so while rewatching it - it is AMAZING how many people from the wire got their start on the Sopranos. I started clapping like an idiot when Omar showed up in season three as the guy in the projects who was housing Jackie Aprille after the card game bustout went bad...
There was also a Perez Hilton sighting during a robbery of some concert venue (again by Jackie Aprille)...

Where they at?
"The Wire" -- Where are they now?
Contributed by Mike Murphy - Posted: February 10, 2009 12:06:10 PM
"The Wire," HBO's brilliant more-than-just-a-cop-show may be done, but it's nice to see the show's actors getting meaty roles elsewhere.
The third season of "Heroes" kicked off a few months ago, adding a pair of "Wire" alumni:
--Jamie Hector, formerly cold-as-ice drug kingpin Marlo Stansfield, became a super villain who fed off fear.
--Andre Royo, the junkie with a heart of gold, Bubbles, had a two-episode role as a misunderstood villain who could open cosmic vortexes.
Then "Fringe" premiered, featuring the ever calm and cool Lance Reddick, who went from oft-promoted police brass Cedric Daniels to Agent Olivia Dunham's boss at the FBI, who's fighting (or in on) a big conspiracy. Reddick has also has been seen lurking on "Lost," as the mysterious Matthew Abbaddon.
Now along comes "Damages," with three more (so far) "Wire" veterans:
-- John Doman, who was brilliantly detestable as the weasely Commander Rawls, is now the brilliantly detestable, weasely CEO Kendrick, who Patty Hewes has in her sights. He never really got his comeuppance on "The Wire," so I'd love to see Patty take down in the messiest way possible.
-- Clarke Peters went from the dapper Detective Lester Freamon to the mysterious Dave Pell, who may or may not be a bad guy. (Come on, Lester can't be a bad guy!) Peters has also been seen as the the captain on "Life on Mars" in a couple of flashbacks (or flashes forward, as the case may be).
-- David Constible is unrecognizable from role to role. He was the Sun's clueless managing editor, and is now the Bearded Cop (Ketchup Cop?) -- the detective who was on Frobisher's payroll who was responsible for the murder of Ellen's fiance last season, who's hired Wes to keep tabs on her this season. And in a complete change of character, he's also Mel's hapless husband, Doug, on "Flight of the Conchords."
And there's a few more "Wire" veterans floating around out there:
Idris Elba (the Barksdale gang's silky smooth money man, Stringer Bell) will guest star on an upcoming six-episode arc of "The Office" as Michael Scott's new nemesis.
Amy Ryan (Customs cop Beadie) is, of course, Michael's dorky love interest, Holly, on "The Office." Look for her to reappear in an upcoming episode or two.
Tristan Wilds (the heartbreaking Michael, a good kid turned very, very bad) is now far from West Baltimore, starring on the new "90210"
Larry Gilliard Jr. (tragic dealer-with-a-conscience D'Angelo Barksdale) has caught on with Patrick Swayze's "The Beast."
Paul Ben-Victor (Greek criminal mastermind Vondas) was seen last season on "Entourage" as Allen, the studio exec who literally screamed himself to death (at Ari).
James Ransome (as too-stupid-to-live Ziggy) redeemed himself as a foul-mouthed Marine (is there any other kind?) in last summer's HBO miniseries "Generation Kill."
Now if only Omar can hook up with a new show . . . .

So for the past few months I sat down and re-watched the entire series from the start. I did this because I wanted to introduce my roommate to the show as he had never seen it. Well tonight we finished the series finale and I gotta say I think I enjoyed the series even more the second time around. I have nothing of real substance to add, I just wanted to post in here and let people know what an amazing show this is.
Now we wanna start a new series, anybody got any suggestions?

Obviously different, but after me and my wife finished the Wire, we got caught up on Californication, and now we started watching Big Love from the beginning.

I think Battlestar Galactica is worth a watch from the begining. If you watch the Pilot and then "33" - and dont like it - you can quit - but I havent met many who havent gone on.
I am watching Arrested Development for the first time ever right now. It may be the best sitcom I have seen since Sinefeld...
I also would recomend Rome - one of my favorite series ever...

Well, there's always the other David Simon-based on influenced series and miniseries if you haven't seen them yet, Homicide, Generation Kill and The Corner.

Treme ready to roll
By R. Reese Fuller
Friday, February 13, 2009
The pilot for a new HBO television series, Treme, begins shooting in New Orleans on March 9. The series - written by David Simon (The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Street, Generation Kill) and Eric Overmyer (St. Elsewhere, Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order, The Wire) - will be set in post-Katrina New Orleans and focus on the city's musicians.
The Hollywood Reporter says actor Steve Zahn (Riding in Cars with Boys, Reality Bites) is in negotiations to play the role of Davis Rogan.
Zahn would play a whip-smart street dancer, local radio DJ, band member and proud New Orleans native with anger issues. The role would showcase Zahn's musical talents as a singer-guitarist.
The real-life Davis Rogan, a New Orleans native and musician, says the fictional character will share his same first name but not his last and that the reference to a "a whip-smart street dancer" is a reference to the second line.
Kim Dickens (Deadwood) is set to co-star with Zahn as his on-again/off-again love interest, according to The Reporter. The cast of Treme already includes Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon in The Wire), Wendell Pierce (Bunk Moreland in The Wire) and Khandi Alexander (Doctor Alexx Woods on CSI: Miami). Shooting is expected to last through March.

Arrested Development is so much easier to appreciate on DVD... like 30 rock, there are tons of great running gags that I think people didn't get when it was on tv. Interested in the movie... Kinda wish they'd make a Wire movie too.

I just finished watching all 5 seasons. My only complaint about this wonderful show is the awful Lance Reddick playing Cedric Daniels. I just couldn't believe that a human being would walk with that awful swagger everywhere he goes. There was just too much acting, I felt like I was watching a broadway play everytime he was on screen. AND THEN the relationship with Rhonda seemed way too forced and I didn't feel they had a true chemistry.
Other than that, I love this show. Omar was awesome and every time he was on screen he captivated me. Also, I think the character from New York that was brought in to clear the streets at the end of Season 1 and then helped Omar do what he did in the Season 3 finale was a character that I wish was explored more. Oh well.

That would have been a terrible fit.
I think Lance Reddick would have been bad in any other role other than the one he played. He has a very commanding look to him and a role like Daniels or the role he plays on Fringe fit his look well because he looks like he'd be the guy running things.

Didn't he reveal on RBI that he has some dumb record for playing the same character in the most TV shows of all time or something? The man does well on everything from just fun shows like SVU to truly great ones like The Wire and Homocide. I think he's fucking ace.

Yep.
He has the world record for playing the same character on eight different tv shows.
I am actually watching the commentary on this episode and they mention that there was some debate over putting him in as an 'inside' appearance but I am glad they did end up with him in there. Good times throwback for Homicide fans and fans of the character.
here is an excerpt on Det. Munch:
Munch is the only fictional character played by a single actor to appear on eight different television shows. These shows were on four different networks: NBC (Homicide: Life on the Street, the Law & Order shows), FOX (The X-Files, Arrested Development), UPN (The Beat), and HBO (The Wire).

Tristan Wilds will play flyboy in World War II drama
By Jay A. Fernandez
March 19, 2009, 11:00 PM ET
Tristan Wilds has been cast in the World War II drama "Red Tails."
The film, written by John Ridley and directed by Anthony Hemingway, details the true story of the 332nd Fighter Group, an elite all-black unit of escort pilots known as the Red Tails. George Lucas is an executive producer, and Rick McCallum is producing.
Wilds will play Ray "Ray Gun" Knight, a flyboy nearly blinded over Nazi-occupied Italy who becomes the wingman of his friend and cohort, Marty. The two face the prejudice of the U.S. military as much as the overseas enemy but end up establishing an unprecedented record.
Wilds, repped by J. Mitchell Management and Abrams Artists, stars on the CW's "90210" and appeared in the films "The Secret Life of Bees" and "Half Nelson." He also had a recurring role on HBO's "The Wire."

I would love to get this quote out to all the "teabaggers" out there screaming about the unfairness of a new tax plan that will probably actually cut taxes for the vast majority of them:
You know, I'm fascinated by it. Because a lot of the people who end up voting for that kind of laissez-faire market policy are people who get creamed by it. And I think it's almost like a casino. You're looking at the guy winning, you're looking at the guy who pulled the lever and all the bells go off, when a guy wins, and all the coins are coming out of a one-armed bandit. You're thinking, "That could be me. I'll play by those rules." But actually, those are house rules. And you're going to lose. Most of you are going to lose.

To me it's the most depressing one. The others have their low points, but season 2's montage had the "biggest" messages. It's where they really drove home how big all of these problems are and how little anyone can do to stop them with th current enforcement mentalities.

Gunfight At The Wire Actor's Baby Shower
13 July 2009 6:26 PM, PDT
A teenager was shot dead on Sunday outside a New York baby shower hosted by The Wire actor Jamie Hector.
Hector, who played gangster Marlo Stanfield in the hit HBO series, threw the bash for his pregnant wife at their Brooklyn home.
New York cops are unsure how the party turned into a gun battle, with nearly 50 shots fired, resulting in the death of 17-year-old Linton Williams and the wounding of Andrew Filson and Walter Parker.
Filson was later shot at as he arrived at a nearby hospital. He was hit but survived.
Two guns were recovered, but no arrests have been made.
It is unknown if Hector was at the house when the shootings took place, at around 1.20 am on Sunday morning.

Okay, I'm just getting caught up now so sorry this is such a late question. I'm watching season 3 now.
When they wanted to get hold of one of the disposable Trac phones from Barksdale's crew, they pulled a traffic stop on Bodi as he was headed to Hamsterdam and swapped his phone for one that looked the same. I don't recall it ever being mentioned that Bodi realized that his phone was swapped. As soon as he used it, he would have realized it, because as Prezbo figured out, they programmed all of the numbers of the rest of the crew's phones into the disposable phones. Therefore, as soon as he tried to call someone, he would have realized that he had the wrong phone because the numbers weren't programmed in.
This, it seems to me, would be a tip off that the cops were working an angle with the disposable phones, which would have likely made them change their course, or at least discuss the fact that cops were working some new leads. At the very least, they would have dumped the latest group of phones immediately and pick up some new ones. As far as I recall, there was nothing like that. Were we to believe that Bodi never figured out that they swapped out his phone, or were they so cocky that their disposable phone gimmick was working that they didn't do anything? Can someone explain this, or was it just a plot hole?

But they didn't know the numbers. That was the point of the disposable phones. If you don't know the numbers, you can't set up a wiretap. Also, they didn't know that the crew programmed numbers into their phones until after they lifted Bodi's.

Stars of The Wire set for Limerick wedding
Published Date: 10 October 2009
By Norma Prendiville
SOME of the best-known faces from The Wire, the American television drama series that has taken the world by storm, are expected in Glin next year when one of the series' stars, Dominic West, marries Catherine FitzGerald, daughter of the Knight of Glin and his wife, Olda.
Madam Olda FitzGerald confirmed this week that the wedding will take place in Glin Castle next year. And, she added, cast members of The Wire will be on the invitation list.
The couple were engaged in 2007, having previously dated as students and

have a young family.
But Madam FitzGerald dismissed inaccurate newspaper reports that the couple's 15-month-old son Senan is in line for the title.
"It has never even come into anybody's head. Nobody has even suggested it," she said.
And she pointed out that the title had never passed through the female line in 29 generations.
She also rebutted the suggestion that the castle has closed its doors as a venue, and confirmed that it was open for weddings and other group functions.
"It's a lovely, pretty place for a wedding," she said, adding that several weddings had already been booked for next year, including of course, that of Catherine and Dominic, which takes place on June 26.
Dominic West plays police officer Jimmy McNulty in The Wire.
Born in Sheffield, he began acting in community theatre at the age of nine and continued his interest in drama while at school in Eton. His family has Irish links and he is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In one interview, Mr West said he left England for the US to get away from costume dramas and being cast in "posh" roles.
He will be marrying into a family with a long history and tradition – the story of which will shortly be published in a new book, The Knights of Glin – Seven Centuries of Change, which will be launched in Dublin, Limerick and Glin Castle next month.

The numbers were definitely already programmed in. The only reason they knew that Barksdale's crew programmed in the numbers is because Prezbo found the numbers when playing around with Bodies phone.
i don't remember exactly the goings on in the scene, but the numbers might not have been programmed in, prezbo might've seen the same two or three numbers over and over again in the call log and surmised them to be part of the crew's leaders. also i recall when stringer gave bodie and d'angelo the phones he also gave them a piece of paper with the numbers for re-ups, muscle and stringer himself written on them and instructed them to "memorize them shits and throw that out."

The Wire will be taught at Harvard:
'THE Wire," HBO's gritty se ries about life in the Baltimore ghetto, is about to become a course at Harvard.
The announcement came at a panel discussion at the school featuring several of the show's stars, according to the Harvard student newspaper, The Crimson.
The class will be taught by sociology professor William J. Wilson, one of the best-known African American history professors in the country, who has made no secret of the fact that he is a huge fan of the show.
"I do not hesitate to say that it has done more to enhance our understanding of the challenges of urban life and the problems of urban inequality, more than any other media event or scholarly publication," Wilson told the audience before poking fun at himself, "including studies by social scientitsts."
Sonja Sohn, who played Det. Kima Gregs, Andre Royo (Bubbles) and Michael Kenneth Williams (Omar Little) were on the panel talking about the show's unusual impact.
The series ran for five seasons, starting in 2002. Each year, it took on a different aspect of urban life -- from drugs to schools to the news media.
Harvard will be not the first college course on "The Wire." Other students commented on The Crimson's site that courses on the TV show already exist at Duke University and Middlebury College.

From WSJ:

Were Alleged Insider Traders Watching Too Much of ‘The Wire’
Were the accused in today’s insider trading doings watching too much of “The Wire,” or not enough?
We ask this question because according to the complaint laid out by the Feds, Zvi Goffer — who is accused of operating an “insider trading network” — is also said to have “provided coconspirators with prepaid cellular telephones so that they could communicate in a manner that reduced the chances of detection by law enforcement.”
This is highly reminiscent of season three of “The Wire,” in which the inner city Baltimore drug gang at the center of the critically acclaimed HBO series takes to using and then discarding pre-paid cellphones — called “burners” — in an effort to frustrate police surveillance efforts.
Still, anyone taking inspiration from “The Wire,” would likely know that the good guys in the show eventually figure out a way to deal with “burners.” According to the government’s complaint, the Feds built their case using a good, old fashioned wire-wearing witness, “CS-1″ in today’s complaint.

'The Wire' Makers Turn Attention to Music Industry for TV Drama
Posted on Nov 9th 2009 5:22AM by Stephen Dowling
The makers of hit HBO TV series 'The Wire'' have turned their attention from the death of the American dream to another institution fallen on hard times -- the music industry.
The show's makers have bought the rights to the book 'Appetite for Self-Destruction: The Spectacular Crash of the Record Industry in the Digital Age,' a tome written by Rolling Stone journalist Steve Knopper which charts the industry's spectacular freefall in recent times.
The book looks at the last 30 years of the music industry, from the adoption of the CD to the boom times of the 80s and 90s, and the subsequent crash blamed on internet piracy and peer-to-peer filesharing.
"It's a rise and fall story of a once, very incredibly healthy, great, rich, throwing its weight and money around kind of industry, that is no longer quite as grand," explained the writer.
Knopper told BBC 6 Music he wanted the input of some musicians in the story. "Since the book came out I have heard from some musicians who have liked it and I would think, philosophically, hopefully many would want to be attached to a project like this.
"Of course, you never know. Some of these guys already have labels and don't want to burn any bridges. I criticise the record labels pretty harshly in my book," he said.
Playwright Victoria Stewart is reportedly already writing an adaptation of the book for HBO.

Although it was a pretty dorky scene, during another boring NFL Sunday at the bar yesterday, a group of my buddies and I had a 'Wire Fantasy Draft'.
After much consternation of what the roster makeup should look like (3 cops, 2 hoppers, a politician?), we decided to make it simple: 6 blacks and 4 whites.
Round one went as follows: 1) Stringer Bell. 2) Jimmy McNulty 3) Omar 4) Marlo 5) Avon Barksdale
My roster looked pretty damn good:
Avon
Bunk
Michael Lee
Prezbo
Kima
Snoop
Templeton
Royce
Beadie Russell
Johnny (AIDS)
I thought I got great value in the 4th round with Prez and he leads my whites. And Johnny as Mr. Irrelevant is an absolute steal.
Personally, I would have taken Omar #1 overall.

The Greek went 8th overall which received a pretty big laugh. That's a huge stretch. Vondas went in the 6th or 7th round. I think I'd rather have Vandas.
The steal of the draft was Prop Joe in the 4th for a team with Stinger, Lester, Herc, Prop Joe, Chris Partlow, Landsman, Sydnor, Butchie, Nicky Sobatka and Waylon. Pretty strong.
I tried to draft Nicky Sobatka's girlfriends tits in the 5th and 6th rounds respectively, but was overruled.
