Edward James Olmos as Adama?!?
Number Six?!!? (be seeing you...)
STARBUCK IS ACTUALLY STARDOE?!!?
Boomer is no longer a large black man, but a hot, cute asian girl?
Please tell me this is all a bad dream... at least the Viper and Cylon designs are still the same...

I like the Apollo, Adama, and Baltar casting.
But the Starbuck and Boomer casting will ruin it for me.

Starbuck is what made Galactica... Galactica. YES, he was a ripoff of Han Solo. But it would have made a hell of a lot more sense to cast Apollo as a woman and kept Starbuck the same.
But then again, that's "cookie-cutter" sci-fi and I should open my mind to something different.
After all, John Crichton is a ripoff of Han Solo as well.

I'm also not a big fan of lifting a character name from a obscure show... i.e. Number Six. Then again, Futurama did it with Leela, so who am I to complain...

Has to be better than Galactica 1980.
But they should have went with Richard Hatch's Galactica. His trailer kicked ass!
Alternatively, my friend has the rights to the BSG comic book and it will take place after the first series and ignore 1980 and this new version.

Sci-Fi is just all fucked up beyond repair.
I read a multi-page press release detailing all of their new shows, both regular (and mid-season), as well as their new mini-series and "original" (read: straight-to-video b-movie clunkers they've bought the rights to) movie projects, and frankly, there's little there to look forward too.
I hate to keep going on about it, but I must: They cancelled Farscape for this.
THIS. DRIVEL.

I used to work with someone who did work for Sci-fi's website and was in touch with an executive there. Just seems that scifi is losing alot of money and are doing what they can to stem the flow.
And as for Farscape, it was a complete money loser and even at the end, after all the save farscape bruhaha, no one was actually watching it.

Farscape was the best sci-fi show since Babylon 5. It was the only GOOD show Sci-Fi has had.....well, maybe in its entire existence.
They're losing money? Good. I haven't watched the channel at all since Farscape ended earlier this year.

Actually, you have two watch the final eps of 1980 for what are prolly the best eps in the run of either show.
And remember, the main character for 1980 was Brady Bunch's cousin Oliver.
<img src="http://www.chaoticconcepts.com/bans/rfjustjon10.gif"><BR><A href="http://www.chaoticconcepts.com">Chaotic Concepts</a>
Right -- Dr. Zee (son of Starbuck). He ruined the Brady Bunch and he ruined Galactica.

That's BLASPHOMY! If I hear it from you again I will get step ladder climb up it and smack you.
But all kidding aside, it was not that bad. One of the things I liked was how Adama was more of a "This is War and if we kill 100 men to save 1,000 then do it" attitude. His relationship with his son was very shakey instead of the love-fest we had in the first series.
I liked the look of the new cylons, but I still prefered the old look cylons. (did you notice the schematics of them when the opening scene was shot)
I think we will get amuch better look tonight as to what is going to take shape.
They are showing last nights at 7 pm tonight as well.
But the jury is still out on this one. I am not dissappointed, but not excited either. let's see what tonight brings

I also didn't watch the original series (or the 1980 one) very closely. Just saw bits and pieces.
Why did Baltar join the Cylons? From the little I did see he seemed to be leading the Cylons. Did he control them?
And is this show set in the future of that old show? They said something about Cylons haven't been seen or heard from in 40 years. IS the old show the old Cylon War they kelt saying was over? (that war actual kept development of technology from proceeding forward!)
Now that I think about it, I kinda like the new BG. Starbuck reminds me on the singer Pink.

I realize that I'm probably derailing this thread completely, but it's somewhat well-known that "Battlestar Galactica" is teeming with allusions to the Book of Mormon and the Church of Latter Day Saints as Galactica Creator and Producer Glen Larson was a Mormon.
DIDJA KNOW DAT?!
Also, I have vague memories of watching Galactica 80 and seeing two Cylons get thrown in a dumpster. Stupid Cylons!
I also remember one where they remade Hell in the Pacific, by having Starbuck befriend a Cylon after they were both stranded on a barren planet. It's really horrifying what the memory will cough up.

I found this on a Galactica site:
The Cylons were actually an extinct alien race of reptilian creatures. The creatures known as Cylons on the show were actually machines built by the Cylons.
Well I guess the new mini series isn't the future of the old show.
I think it's more intresting for the cylons to be created by man and then revolting against man, only to come back 40 years later to finish them off. The old show must have had dudes in Lizard Masks or something
And this plot summary doesn't make the old show look so good:
"The Lost Warrior"
Apollo is marooned on a Western Frontier-like planet, where he meets a woman and her son ... and a damaged Cylon, known as Red Eye, who has become a notorious gunslinger.
And this was only the third episode!

they shouldn't have revealed the boomer thing atr the end. leave a little mystery for the show.
Jeff, the cylons in the original did not revolt because they were not made by man. The Cylons were built by an alien race called the Cylons. The machines revolted against their masters and destoyed them. The war broke out because they're some what similar to the Borg, all none Cylon life needs to be destroyed. So once we made contact with them, they attacked.
The show began with at attempt to end the war. Baltar claimed to have brokered a deal with the cylons to end the war. in reality, it was a trap.

Do I ever! My dad wouldn't take me to the movie because he said it was stuff we'd already seen on the TV show. I felt like Bart not getting to see the Itchy and Scratchy movie. I don't think it was in theaters too long.
Another bitter childhood memory regarding BG was Mattel's recall of the little red plastic bullets that shot out of the toy spaceships. It seems careless children were choking on them. Well I had a bitchin' Cylon Raider! And a Scarab! My grandmother told me if I gave her the bullets, she would send them to Mattel, and I would receive a Hot Wheels car for my troubles. I followed suit and never received dick. I lost my innocence that day. Now I'm forced to quote Skynard: "Gimme back my bullets!"

In the original series, Baltar's relationship with the Cylons seemed tenuous at best. The Cylons seemed to need him to help them find the remaining humans. But the scenes with Baltar sitting on that elevated platform in the dark did make it seem like he was the ruler or something.
The series had the possibility of being great, but the network wouldn't give them a decent budget. If I recall correctly, construction of the sets usually left little for effects. That's one reason you saw the same shots of the Vipers and Cylon ships over and over again.
I think the ending thing with Boomer was meant to try to get "fans" anxious about seeing what the angle is and encouraging a series. I thought as a production, it was good, except the actress who played Starbuck- I think she did it a little over-the-top. The effects were great, and had they had the ability to do those shots back when the original aired, it would be all the better for it.
I didn't like what they did to the story line too much, though. They didn't have to stick to cannon, but I think turning Baltar into a "sap" instead of a megalomaniac traitor was a bad idea.

Ok now, this occurred to me today. Why didn't the massive EM pulses generated by the Nukes going off affect Number 6? Her circuits weren't shielded as revealed in the autopsy of the guy on the supply depot.

She said something about her mind just being uploaded to the next body she will use. The 6 we see in the intro of the show was blow up (along with the 2 CGI Robot-looking Cylons) on the Diplomatic space station (and did you noticed the picture of his son, was the same kid whom Boomer ended up saving?) so her Body isn't important (But it is impressive!)

Here are some nitpicks...
Surely, the Cylons know where their sleeper agents are transplanted?
So if that's the case, a certain attack doesn't make me very happy.
EM Pulses from the nukes - Both Number 6 and the Sleeper (I'm not spoiling it if hasn't been reported) should have been affected, because they were both in the neighborhood of nukes.
Starbuck's a butterface. Some shots she looks really good, other times, awful. She's got charisma though. Especially her comments about "wanting to kick the ass" of one of her shipmates and then finding out he died.
Col. Tigh = John McCain.
Does Apollo remind anyone else of the guy from 90210 who played Kelly's boyfriend? He's currently on Third Watch, I think.
I like how there is an Earth Conspiracy. Old School Adama was hard-pressed to find Earth, because he was positive it existed. New School Adama does not - he only used Earth as a motivational tool - and that could come back to haunt him.
I could deal w/o Olmos playing Adama... he didn't add or take away from the Character... but I can do w/o the President.
Also: There are 12 models of Cylon, with infinite numbers of each. So we have the Weapons Traded Cylon, The Number Six Cylon, the PR Guy Cylon, and the Sleeper Cylon. Right? Is that what they're going for?

I thought I was the only one who saw that...I had to do a doulbe take on both the Col. and to Apollo.
You were thinking about Jason Wiles who plays Maurice "Bosco" Boscorelli.
Jamie Bamber played Apollo, he could be Jason Wiles brother they look so alike.

What happened to the old days when we had 4 models of Cylons. Silver, Gold, Gay ones that sounded like C3PO and the Leader (Of course I had only heard of the Silver ones before seeing the new BG and doing research)
The best thing about the old BG was the Silver Dude, they need to have Machine Cylons not just Human ones. It's 30 years later, why are they trying to save money by using humans PRETENDING to be machines?

I watched the first three episodes, and I'm really impressed.
I'm totally cool with the Tom Zarek character. I thought the reveal they did (OOH, LOOK, IT'S THE OLD APOLLO!) was understated a bit.
Starbuck is growing on me. The flight squadron briefing scene was funny. Sunglasses in space. That old gag.
Is it just me, or does New Apollo look like Dale Earnhardt Jr?

I think, not sure, but I think that they'll expan Tyrol's character a bit.
There's not one firm male action hero in the bunch, though. You've got Tyrol, who's the smart-ass mechanic... Apollo, wishy-washy... Adama, who probably kicked ass in his youth... Tigh, who is an asshole... Billy, who is a waste of skin and Mr. Exposition...
I'm thinking once Helo's leg is healed, he's gonna be your action hero.

Four episodes in, and we get a little more character development...
This was definitely a starbuck-centered episode, but the storytelling was a bit confusing... I didn't like the flashback-within-a-flashbackohwaitherewegotocylonoccupiedcaprica-flashback-viper crash-flashback.
It kind of felt like this episode was an excuse to squeeze all the regulars in for needless roles and some throwaway lines. ("What Cylon Detector?")
Here's what I don't get...
Obviously, Lee, Kara, and Zak were close to each other. As seen from the beginning of the episode, Lee and Kara seem like best friends, even though Lee knows Kara's secret. Now, mind you, Lee has only found out about Kara's secret less than 2 weeks ago (if we're going by the counter on Caprica, in the Galactica universe, it's been 14 days since the initial Cylon attack)
So Adama is absolutely furious with Kara when he finds out what she's done, but Lee, again, is totally wishy-washy.
I really, really want to like the Apollo character. But it seems like every time he takes a step forward in positive character development, he takes two steps back.
Anyone else notice the Top Gun reference, where a spike-haired, thick-lipped, Polish-last named pilot in flight school is twirling a pen with his fingers?

While I liked last week's episode, I thought the story could have gone forward a bit better and made more sense if Starbuck had let the new pilots back in with a "you're not out, but you screw up and we'll send you packing" line, rather than just letting them back in.
Sure the story had her overruled by Lee and the Commander, but there's no reason she should have let the students know that her mind was changed.
I'm pretty excited to see tonight's episode.

And what creates that Red Light thing we saw in the Mini Series? Star Buck was using that as a window.

Ron Moore has a blog on Scifi.com about the episode, and there's somethings he's being very secretive about - including, for some reason, non-cornered paper.
I'm guessing - and this is just a guess - that bio organic fighters allows the cylons to grow their fighters rather than build them.
I've seen the entire season. (thanks, BT!) It's fucking phenomenal. I won't spoil, but it's just THAT DAMN GOOD.

For the show's second season, creator and executive producer Ronald D. Moore previously told SCI FI Wire that he has already been working on as many as six new scripts to resolve the multiple cliffhangers that will end season one. Moore added that he wants to delve deeper into the show's religious themes and open up the Cylon WORLD
the religious stuff is usally the slowest stuff for me on this show, and the show really shouldnt be about the cylons but the humans fleeing them, but i like the show so what do i know

Well, seeing the latest episode (Gauis being accused of be a traitor by a copy of Number Six that isn't just in his head) has proved to me that Gauis himself is a cylon and in turn explained why it's taking him so long to build the "Cylon Detector"
And if there are cylons in the fleet (There seem to be lots of them) and they are in constant communication (Number Six explained that in the Mini Series, her thoughts are transfered to another model if she's destoyed) Why doesn't the BSG Boomer just let them know where they are?

She didn't, but he think she did. She's just playing with him. There seem to be TONS of cylons that have mixed in with humans. They seem to be holding off on having Baltar finish the Cylon Detector, I think they'll end the season with him finishing it and discovering that he's a cylon.
Boomer doesn't know she's a cylon (at least the one on BSG, and at least as far as we know)
Of course I'm just guessing.
At the very least that last show proves there must be a chip in his head and Number 6 isn't just something his mind is making up. She disappeared from his fantasy just as she appears in real life on BSG, then disappears from BGS and reappears to have some fantasy sex with Baltar who's now everyone's best friend. Wow they were really quick to put him in "the brig" and The president turned her back on him super fast based on one photo. what a bitch!

I was pleasantly surprised by the episode. I was sure that the cylon had just projected the fantasy world into being the Galactica instead of his nice little house. However, I have to wonder how she escaped. Did she just walk through a launch tube and into space? You would figure she'd have been under watch, that they'd be wary of any new face who just suddenly "appears".

Every big carrier ship is called a "Battlestar". Commander Adama is in charge of "The Galactica", which happens to be the last Battlestar in existence. (Hence, the name of the show).
As for the replay, I have no idea when it re-airs BUT... I know that they did record some interviews (or perhaps they were commentaries) for the DVD as Company X Audio here in Toronto.
Plus...there will most likely be a Marathon eventually anyway.

How bout the Battlestar Pegasus and the legendary Commander Cain?
Ron Moore has said that he has NOT made a decision about Pegasus and Cain appearing in the new series. Considering the new season is 20 episodes, there's a lot to play with.
I'll say this though - I've seen the entire first season, and Ron Moore is GOD OF CLIFFHANGER. Best Sci-Fi cliffhanger since Best of Both Worlds Part I.
Hand of God is one of the best of the season, but episodes 12 and 13 (the final two this season) are fucking PHENOMENAL.

Anyone know how many episodes are left this season?
Episode 1x10 was Hand of God (Cylon base sneak attack)
Episode 1x11 is Colonial Day (Return of Tom Zarek)
Episode 1x12 is Kobol's Last Gleaming Part I (first part of the season finale, and contains the best 2-minute opening tease EVER.
Episode 1x13 is Kobol's Last Gleaming Part II (second part of the season finale, with the cliffhanger)
So in answer: three episodes.

I'm thinking it may have had something to do with the viability of the show. Maybe SciFi/Universal wanted to see how the show did overseas before giving a consideration to a second season? Don't forget, the second season was OK'ed 4 episodes into the first season here.

The first part of the season finale is on tonight (I've already seen it and it's fantastic!)
This got me thinking of the few minutes before BSG comes on. Sci-Fi Channel shows some crappy show before hand where there are these people on some planet and there are aliens they have to deal with. I understand it's not a huge budget show but the computers they use on the show are Dell Laptops, they don't even try to hide it. What the hell is that about?

<p>OK... Spoiler Vision for 2.02 first:</p><p><font style="background-color: #000000">I think Kara's ride was budgetary constraints. They've obviously spending a lot of money on this show, but I figure that Kara's ride is going to figure into future plot points. So they couldn't make a CGI car, or modify a ton of old cars to look "Caprican" as it were. So they just saved money, bought a used hummer, welded some cosmetic metal to make it look different, boom, done.</font></p><p><font style="background-color: #000000">I mean, Star Trek:Nemesis had a land-based vehicle and it just looked gay. I thought at first he was just going to snap it's neck with Baltar watching, but that may have been too intense for TV.</font></p><p><font style="background-color: #000000">Interesting parallel back to the miniseries, when Six killed a human baby though.</font></p><p><font style="background-color: #000000">Dumb question - how can Six be pregnant if she's just an illusion in Baltar's head? Did Shelley Godfrey and Baltar interact physically when she was on the ship in season 1?</font></p><p>Last thing:</p><p><font style="background-color: #000000">Yes, the Pegasus is coming back. However, Moore made an interesting casting choice for Commander Cain... Michelle "Ensign Ro" Forbes.</font></p><p><font style="background-color: #000000">This makes Forbes 4th foray into high-quality cult television. <p>I didn't know that about the actor that plays the assistant... Thanks, it does make sense. I always thought it was a perfect position for a cylon to be so close to the president of the colonies. They did already catch one cylon positioned on Galactica, If he is a cylon, it also makes sense that he would want to remain closer to Adama then Roslin... Whatever number Boomer is, her model failed at killing Adama...</p><p>Obviously I'm not the first to think this, but it would be foolish to think Baltar is not a cylon as well...</p>Never Rub Another Man's Rhubarb...

<p>You're right. They lost the Cylon Raider, but they have the heavy raider, plus they have a PREGNANT cylon and they have a rescued pilot and vital intel on what the cylons are up to.</p><p>So add all that up, and yeah, probably no court martial. Plus Kara could potentially blackmail Adama - she knows that Adama doesn't know how to get to Earth, (remember, when she left, Roslin didn't believe in Earth but she changed since Kara was gone) but she's the only one in the fleet who knows besides Roslin and Adama.</p>

When they went for the extreme closeup of Kat's eye when the asteroid went up, I was like - "Holy shit, they are finally gonna kill her." RDM is not beyond killing the role players, as shown with Crash, Socinus, etc.</font></p><p><font style="background-color: #000000">I liked the Apollo/Helo/Mexican Standoff. <p>Thank you. I knew nothing about Reptile's. I guess I will get the Original Series on DVD.</p><p>It seems to me that on this series most Human nationalities are represented by each Zodiac Colony. Most black people that I've seen on this series seem to come from Geminon. Are other Races specific to certain colonies? "Sagitaron's are so scared of Geminons"</p><p>Obviously, they believe in the Greek Gods, but I noticed in the Mini Series, Adama sighed and muttered "Jesus". This show is outstanding but incredibly confusing...</p>

<p><font color="#990000" size="2">I was doing some research on the old show (still debating If I should try and watch it) and another thing they carried over from the old show was Apollo's brother: Zac died during the Cylon attack at the beginning of the old series. In the New Series it's spelled Zak (and in the new series Adama is his last name, unlike the old series where Adama, Apollo and Starbuck are their full names)</font></p><p><font color="#990000" size="2">Zac is played by Rick Springfield who was a friend of this guy:</font></p><p><img src="http://s1.imagesubmit.com/boogie.bmp" border="0" /></p>

<p>Baltar's not a cylon, because then Six would have never been needed to access the Caprican defense system in the first place. </p><p>Another question... the Six model is superstrong and superfast as evidenced in Kobol's Last Gleaming. Other people have made mentions that Boomer has excellent endurance, and she's a really good shot. Leoben is also super-strong as seen by the miniseries - even with his silica relays destroyed he whupped Adama. So it's assumed that the Cylons we've seen are stronger and faster than us.</p><p>So why has Sharon been thrown around? She got dragged off and allowed a front choke hold.</p>

<p>I understood the connection in Baltar's mind. Once he mentioned Starbuck, she appears dressed as her, I just liked the goofy bug eyed impression she was doing. </p><p>I can't understand Baltar anymore. I used to think that he couldn't possibly survived that blast they show in the begining of every episode, that's why he's a cylon, but I never thought about why did #6 really need him in the beginning. </p><p>I've wondered why Sharon is such a physically weak cylon too, but I can only think that this particular one is pregnant, and # 6 mentioned once that her model is flawed. She is the most emotional Cylon it seems so far, but that might be intentional. She might have been designed for love so she could have the cylon baby and that's why # 6 despises her. maybe... </p>Never Rub Another Man's Rhubarb...

<p>I missed it Friday and wanted to break my TV, but I was lucky. I watched it tonight.</p><p>I'm not making light of rape, but I can't understand why The Imaginary # 6 would be so shocked. Of course it's terrible, but look at what the cylons are doing to human females. I think The Pegasus crew abused her because they didn't have the same emotional bond to their captive like Galactica does. They saw her as a Murderous Machine (which she is). What happened to # 6 is disgusting, but I kept thinking of the time she snapped the babies neck in the Mini Series. </p><p>This is what I think will happen. <p>I honestly didn't think about that. I guess it would be very disturbing to see a twin (or however they see themselves) abused like that. I also realized that I even said "Imaginary # 6". I think that version is more Baltar's Emotions then an actual # 6 model. I consider # 6 the most heartless, but Baltar's version would obviously be more sensitive. </p><p>The Boomer model confuses me. She has to be specially designed for Love. In season One's finale all the naked boomer's kept saying I love you. All they knew was love without Sharon's Memories being downloaded. One fell in Love with the cheif and the other with Helo. Her sensitive emotions have to be a part "Of The Plan".</p><p>I just think they give Sharon the benefit of the doubt to much. I know she's clearly helped them many times, but they abandoned the Media Cylon and shot a Leoben out an airlock. I don't think The president would have trusted her to find the tomb if it were any other model.</p><p>I really don't know anything about the original series, but I've seen every single moment of all Star Trek's. 40 years of almost the same stories twisted around makes some Sci Fi pretty predictable. The Gritty Dark Edge makes This BattleStar Great, but it's really still a mix of Star Trek, Star Wars and Lost in Space. </p>

I watched the first 2 episodes of this season about 2 weeks ago ( I work at a newspaper and they recieved a press screening disk and our reviewer knows i'm a fan) and i gotta say that this is one of the most consistiantly well written and acted shows out there at the moment, maybe ever.
Not giving away spoilers, but the final scene of the first episode is probably one of the most intense moments i've seen on TV, and all it involves is people talking....

<p>They probably will release two versions on DVD. A verson 2.1 of the second half of this season and most likely a full season 2 set with more features so I have to buy it. I was stupid enough to run out the first day and grab Season 1 "Best Buy" exclusive. I didn't realize it was the British version. It was fine, but I had to buy the regular season as well.</p>

still lurking in the fleet? As far as I know, the models of the

</a>Thanks for the pic. That's a new sig pic, thank you.<p> </p><p>I
doubt that Moore would make Cain a cylon. The whole point of this
exercise with "Pegasus" is that their crew is the worst <em><strong>humanity</strong></em> could bring out under the circumstances.</p><p> </p><p>The potential cylons that I've heard rumored about are (spoiler vision) <span style="background-color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Col.
Tigh's Wife - who wouldn't be a new Cylon model, but rather an older,
"aged" version of the 6 model... but personally that makes no sense, as
Shelly interacted with Tigh and surely he saw the comparison if this
was true... Felix Gaeta, and Billy.</span></p><p> </p><p>I
personally think they have to slow down in introducing the new
Cylons. They've gone through half of them in the first year and a
half. If this show has the preservance of a Stargate, they are
gonna need to stretch it out over 9 seasons or more.</p><p> </p>

<p>I thought the fight was anticlimactic as well. There should be more action in the next few episodes though. Cain will have to die. I just hope The Pegasus doesn't get destroyed and can become a part of the fleet with The current XO as it's new captain. </p><p>I didn't think Starbuck actually got that close to the models. It was just the magnification level that made it possible to see them. </p><p>They did go through half of the 12 cylons already, but they could possibly be making newer human models that can stretch it out a lot longer. I doubt that Cain is a cylon and the more I think about it I really doubt Baltar is one as well, but until it's proven wrong I feel The President's Assistant is definately one of them. I don't know how to do the spoiler vision, but I'm just guessing at all of this. Doc Cottle could be one, but if he was, why would he be so adamant about about saving Adama's life. Just more guessing. </p>

<p>I'm not sure who the better actor in this show is... Callis as
Baltar or Olmos as Adama. Because even though Helo and Boomer
have a "real" love, you can't feel it. Baltar is absolutely
batshit insane but you can feel every emotion he has, including the
love for GinaSix - even after he watches her kill a man right in front
of him.</p><p> </p><p>Edit: And puts the idea in her head about killing Cain, although he had no real idea how fucking crazy she was. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

<p>I started out hating this series now am religiously taping it. (Still cant stand Starbuck though, still think of her as the girl who gets her head chopped off and rolled down the stairs in halloween #20 or something). </p><p>Last nights was the best action episode of series, very tense. Great episode. And agree, have never seen the guy playing Baltar before but he's by far the best actor on the show. Just hoping there's not too many subplots now that there's 2 ships involved, betting Pegasus gets destroyed at some point soon. </p>

Great episode tonite although with only a couple episodes left in this "season" (or half of season..or whatever it is) it hit me that it took quite a long time to get to the good stuff...<br />

Nope. The painting in Sharon's apartment was rectangular as opposed to the octagon formation that almost everything takes in the Galactica universe. (Paper, frames, playing cards, notepads, binders, clipboards, etc) <p> </p><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: #000066; font-family: verdana">If you look closely, there are lots of things that should have the corners cut off but don't through out the 2 season's episodes. One example that comes to mind is when Gaeta is explaining the reason the water tanks may have exploded and how much water they have left in the episode called "water" early in season 1: The foam core presentation board with the schematic of Galactica was rectangular. And that would be an easy item to put into an octagon formation.</span>
