Comparing his performance to Randy Johnson, who was expected to be a #1

This was an incredible victory tonight for
Yankee fans. You couldn't ask for much more. Let's go down the
checklist:Come back from what looked like a blow out.A-Rod comes through in the clutch.Get the winning run off of Schilling.Rivera makes a statement by striking out the side. And
I certianly wouldn't call Schilling washed up, but with the way he
worked that injured ankle last year and the way he pitched both during
the injury and after is VERY discouraging.

Wow, I've never got this much joy out of a yankee win!  Wadd Logic strikes again!  Why the fuck did Boston put Schill in such a tough position for his return to the mound?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but was this not his first stint since the latest injury?  Timlin has been awesome this year, so it blows my mind that TF didn't simply use him as the closer.  I know he gave up the tying run tonight, but he is much better prepared to close out games at this point.  Especially versus the Yankees.  If in fact they still lost with Timlin on the mound you simply tip your hat.  However, losing the way they did tonight just seems plain silly.

our pitching wasn't so completely fucked right now, I'd be thrilled.
Its just a good thing that Baltimore's pitching isn't much better, and
Boston's is only slightly better w/no bullpen.

How do you Yankee fans sleep at night knowing that Wadd is out there rooting for the same team, frankly it scares me.And i loved his Kevin Brown for Tom Glavine deal so the Mets will trade for nothing yeah thats a good one.  And Al Leiter could not play for the Yankees on Sunday unless he was traded to the Yankees, a player has 10 days to be assigned and then must clear waivers.

Twice in one fucking year!  So far 2005 is picking up where 2004 left off for the spanks!  Just imagine how bad this team would have been without an underperforming RJ and Pavano.  Hell, what if they didn't outbid all others for the Wang deal a few years back?  Embarrassing!  This one was surely Arods fault too.  Jeter however is still a god.  Sorry, I don't buy it.  Put your boy D. Lee in all those great spots Jeter has been in over the years bc he is a Yankee and I'd bet Lee would have done at least as well.  Playing on a team constantly in the spotlight makes him look better, that's not to say he isn't good.  Yet he isn't even close to being an all-time great in my book.  I'd even take double digit yankees before him, let alone a lot of other players too.

In 2000, for a raw A level player not drafted, yes, that is a lot.  How can the bottom half, if not more, of the major league teams compete when teams like the Yanks can spend more on their A level teams.  Remember that was just the bonus.  I haven't been able to find the actual salary, but I think it comes out to a few more million a year.  The Soriano and Matsui deals were very similar, just on a grander scale.  And should we kiss the ass of the Yankee farm system now that they finally had success with a pitcher from there system?  How long has it been since Rivera came up?  1995 and that IS fucking sad.

My point wasn't to say that the Yankee farm system
was great nor that a team like the Royals could afford him. My point is
that the only other team bidding for Wang could, and there's ample
evidence that no one else in the league thought much of Wang. So,
therefore, regardless of anything else, the Yankees deserve credit for
finding him.

Let's also not forget that the other teams involved in those trades probably couldn't afford to pick a contract up that hefty for an unproven player.  Let's just be fair and admit that the Yankees have a clear advantage in this league, especially when it comes to amateur free agents.  This is one of the reasons why I disdain the yanks, not bc they win, simply how they go about it.  And this surely won't change soon as Selig is George's bitch!

Sure he's a good, but still he's unproven.  He truly hasn't even pitched half a season due to his late start.  It'll be interesting to see his performance the second time through the AL teams.  His poise on the mound is clearly strong, but that won't make the adjustment on hitters now ready for your stuff.  Of course now many teams are willing to take a chance on him, bc the risk is much lower at the price.  Hell, before the injury I'd be happy bringing him into a young Toronto team, but who knows how long he'll be out now.

Hey KO, I forgot to address your post.  I'd definately agree that the O's aren't on the Sox/Yank level in the last few years, but surely they are a key player in the free agent market.  In fact, I believe they used to have the top payroll around 98 or so.  They've signed almost all of their own free agents (Ponson) and many others over the years.  How did you forget the almost 18 million a year Sosa?  Then you have Tejada, Lopez, Belle, Batista, Hentgen, Clark, Segui, Daal, Palmeiro and a few more I can't recall.  Your point is well taken, but it's not as if Baltimore's finances are closer to the likes of KC, Oakland and MN.

This is my final word on this. There was an article
written literally the day of ang's injury. It was about how valuable
Wang has been to the Yankees this season. I guess they took it down
since I can't find it for the life of me. But in the article Cashman
was quoted as not getting one call about Wang for two years. And it was
said that there was incredibly little interest in him, and that only
the Mariners and Yankees were bidding on him.

Yah, this move was a no brainer for the Yanks with their current pitching situation.  Big Al is sure worth a shot if you're gonna give the others one.  At least Al has a good past, while the others were just out of their league.  H, I haven't seen that article but definately trust you on it.  Perhaps nobody did inquire about him in a trade, we'll never really know bc I seriously doubt it.  However, check out the link in my other post as it brings back the nightmare trade the Jays made a few years back.  Wang's prior injury is no joke, especially with rumors out there now that he may be down for the year.  Reflecting on that Sirotka deal I recall the awfulness that was the Toronto franchise only a few years back.  It's safe to say while Pat Gillick was an awesome GM for the Jays, Gord Ash was the exact opposite.

As insane as it sounds, I actually told my brother about a week ago that Cash should have pushed hard on a deal sending Wang to Florida for Burnett. Wang has already had a serious operation on his shoulder, which sidelined him about a year. With this rotato cuff tear his career is basically over, seeing as how he'll never generate the same kind of velocity again. In my eyes Wang was a crucial chip that Cash had every opportunity to use but he got greedy with the results he was getting. Yankee fans can only pray now that Hughes isn't sent somewhere for a guy liek Schmidt as a result.

Nice find Davios.  Is this the quote you were speaking of Hbox?  "Yet the Yankees thought enough of Wang in 2000 to outbid the Mariners, signing him for around $2 million."  That obviously is speaking of the bonus alone, and that the Yankees and the Mariners were the top bidders, not the only ones.  I truly believe that the torn labrum is a huge injury and very few even come back as well as Wang had up to his latest injury.  This must be the reason for the lack of interest.  Yet once he seemed to be over it, pitching well even at a major league level, many thought he was one of the small 3% referenced in the link I attached earlier.

Rotator cuffs are serious and require surgery and rehab, but pitchers
come back from them. Usually between 6 mos and a year and half. Figure

So did he actually tear it or not?  It seems they really haven't gone that far with it yet.  If indeed it is torn, that's a lot of damage in the throwing shoulder over the last few years and I bet this has Cashman pretty worried about his return.  Not that he won't, but if these injuries don't have an additive effect on his velocity and ability overall.  Time will tell.

Cashman has tried to keep eevrything under wraps so he won't be held up by other teams in making deals, but basically every paper has already reported that it is the most likely scenario. You don't go see Dr. Andrews to get a second opinion, you go to have a serious operation. And Bulldog, I understand that today surgery is a very normal thing, a torn rotator cuff however is not. When pitchers fray their rotator cuffs, their careers change dramatically. This isn't frayed, it's torn. When the Mets signed Pedro everyone knew it wasn't the brightest move considering he supposedly has a partial tear and would likely be done in a matter of two years. With a previous operation already on the same shoulder, the outlook is incredibly dark. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see this kid make it back, but I'm a realist.

A couple of things, the first being most important:1. No one yet knows what Wang's injury is.2.
That Wang is going to Andrews doesn't neccessarily mean the worst.
Andrews has operated on Wang's shoulder before, he knows the most about
it.3. A torn labrum and torn rotator cuff are two different things. 4.
A torn rotator cuff would keep Wang out for a long time, but his career
would be in far less doubt than another torn labrum.

nobody need s to worry about me giving Alexander the great credit here.  I'm not on a mission to  bring him down because i dont like him personlly.  I am thrilled he's kicking ass against our rivals and he's coming up clutch.  Thank God, and I'm thrilled about Leiter but dont expect it too many more times.  Maybe hes just fresh from limited work.  I said in the off season we should sign him to throw out of the bulllpen since he doesnt throw enough innings as a starter.  Throws a shit load of pitches but his ERA was good, and you have a lefty version of sturtze which is key for us.  Hopefully we get in a postion with our starters to use him that way, i dont reall like the idea of him starting all year

Disagree.Melky is clearly not the answer yet. He just isn't ready.Womack is a pinch runner and occasional starter at best, so he's not the answer.Crosby is not a full time answer. The only solutions are these:Bernie the starter with Crosby the defensive replacement and occasional starter.A
sensible trade for CF. Doesn't need stellar offensive numbers, just
acceptable with good defense and not costing us any big prospects.I don't like Bernie's defense, but I guess it's the best option since he's still coming up with huge hits. Mike Cameron would be a perfect fit, but I doubt they could get him from the Mets without paying too much.

Like I said, we have nobody to start later this week. They actually
brought up the kid Small. He probably gets the call. Who the fuck knows
what to expect outta him. But sooner or later, someone's going to pan
out. If you remember back to 95, the Yanks had the same deal where they
were short a starter. And they brought up one pitcher after another
(Boehringer, even one named Mariano Rivera). All of whom couldn't cut
it as a starter. Then they brought up a kid named Pettite, who was like
4th on their list. So you never know.

Some good news to actually report regarding Wang. Dr. Andrews said that he has an inflamed shoulder- he's going to start a two week rest and then a throwing program. If that program doesn't work, he's going to have to go under the knife. Torre actually said this was really good news and best case scenario he COULD be back in 6 weeks.

It's still far from over, but basically the theme of tonight's game is: Brown still sucks balls, but the Rangers' pitching sucked more. But we won't be scoring 50 runs a night, and the bullpen is eventually gonna get drained and overworked, so we desperately need some solid consistent starters.

he was obviously confused because he also said that Boston had the
better team in all areas other than the bullpen.

Well this game just shows that we can't rely on the bats to save us EVERY time like this. I am happier then a pig in shit that Al Leiter pitched as great as he did on sunday. Do I expect him to pitch like that EVERY time? Hell no! We do have alot of flaws, starting and ending with pitching. We also need to work on our defense. (in a BIG way)But as far as the lineup is concerned...I think Morgan was right...this is a VERY VERY scary lineup. I think right now the most powerful one-two punch in all of baseball is Sheff and A-Rod. You would be hard pressed to find someone who is playing as awsome as they are. Ortiz-Manny are close but still do not top them.

needs is Tony Womack. And he really isn't worth the tub of pine tar

Womack.  Er...Well, I just read the Cubs traded Jason Dubois for the Indians for Gerut in CF, which seems smart to me.  When he asn't been injured, Gerut's been a real solid .275+ hitter and can play all three OF spots very well, especially center and left.  The guy's defense is fantastic, something the Cubs have needed big time this year.  That changes a lot of things in terms of upcoming trades, and pretty much makes anything with the Yanks nil.  Oh well...

Cano is perfect in the 2-spot... SO MUCH better than Womack. He just needs to LEARN HOW TO FUCKING BUNT. And the amazing thing about the incredible 1-2 punch of Sheff/A-Rod, is that MATSUI IS UP NEXT. By the way, anybody have any updates on Sierra's condition?

Wow . . . . a GLUT of decent starters.  . . . . .   wow. . . . . . . . . . .man .. . . . . .   Sounds
good, but I dont think were a match. We have a CF problem of our own.
The only guy who meets your needs is Womack. We also have a glut of
mediocre relievers with Rodriguez coming off the DL. And our most
promising prospect is a 3rd baseman (Duncan) Maybe a 3 way . . . .

It's not just regular ESPN but its also ESPN Radio - I swear Dick Vitale has taken the Duke Dick out of his mouth and replace it with a Yankee Meat Cigar and says every week on Mike and Mike that watch out for the Yankees baby here they come - this has been going on for the past 6 weeks with this clown.And i still love the fact Wadd does not get Giambi is untradeable because no one will take on 80 million in salary now.  Get off of it, it is so sickening to read your posts and how badly you show your lack of knoweledge on the subject of any sport

The difference is Dick Vitale is a guy who covers college basketball, and has always been a Yankee fan. They invite him on to talk about the Yankees. Meanwhile, the head of ESPN's baseball coverage has been a diehard Red Sock fan for decades. Not only that, he wrote for the damn Globe. Gammons goes out of his way to slurp the Sawx, and you're complaining about a guy who does Digiorno commercials and covers the NCAA. During the deadline last year when the Yankees were seriously looking to obtain Randy, Gammons was making the rounds on all the local stations crying his eyes out about how unfair it was. Randy was in New York with his agent for some event and he was screaming that someone should investigate whether or not Steinbrenner was holding secret meetings with them on Mike & Mike. Golic and Greeney then proceeded to hang up and talk about how completely insane Gammons came off. This is the head of baseball for ESPN.

interviewing him, but when they first picked up his call they pretended
they were off air, and he sounded like a normal human being. Then they
pretended they were going back on air, and all of a sudden he goes back
into character. It was funny stuff.

league, man... 

I think the Yanks have
been on ESPN twice this year. About as much as any other GOOD team.
Look, its TV, they're in the ratings biz. You dont get ratings showing
the fucking Devil Rays vs Royals. And they pay MLB a bazillion $$ for
those rights. So they want to try to break even on their investment, or
god forbid make a few $$. If it was your station, you'd do the exact
same thing. So, unless you have a better way to run a major media biz,
stop the BS.

Theres more Yankee fans around the country then any other team.  Theres more transplanted New Yorkers around the country then any other city.  People want to see the Yanks because theyre fans and/or theyre interesting.  Down the strech when games will decide who makes the playoffs theyll put florida vs Houston with a Willis/Clemens match-up.  I'd watch that.

I bet the ratings suck when they do the other cities playing each
other. Again, stop telling them how to run their business. The fact
that bloggers complain is actually a sign that what they're doing is
WORKING. You dont see the #1 subject on any blog "The great

Hold on a minute.... is the person that says he doesnt watch ESPN except to watch baseball games now telling us what is aired on all sorts of different sports magazine type shows on espn?  I'm confused.  ESPN is horrible and has no value but its Sunday Nights during football season.

You guys can't see past being Yankee fans...fine.  Just don't brush it off when people say that a LOT of baseball fans aren't thrillied to the antics of the Yankees or the Red Sox on a regular basis.  If anyone can find the ratings for baseball games aired on ESPN, please post them.  I doubt there's a huge difference in the Yankees and Sox games and other teams, except when they play each other.  And even if the Yankees and Sox draw more...so what?  There's plenty of other teams that'll draw big numbers.  Just because they're not the BIGGEST doesn't mean they should be continually shunted out of the picture.  ESPN is supposed to be about ALL of a sport...not just a select few teams.  I'm not saying they should shut out the Yankees or Sox...just spread it around.  The Cardinals and White Sox have HUGE fan bases and by far the best records in the AL and the NL all year, yet the Sox and Yankees outnumber them in aired games on ESPN at least 3-1.  That's absurd.And Wadd, I'll stack the number of Cubs fans across the country up against Yankees fans ANY day.  Won't even be close.  Now the Red Sox, that's a different story.Plus, are you trying to "catch" me on watching other ESPN shows?  Please.  Yeah, I'll always flip past the channel to see what's on.  If I'm getting ready for work or to go out, it's usually that or the news on.  Whoopdee-doo.
