<p> </p><font face="Verdana" style="font-size: 9px;">quote:</font>Why
is Torre obsessed with pulling starters after 6? Even if their having a
great outing? A big problem right now is the concern that we're
over-using our bullpen, and we need some legit starters to take us deep
into games. So Moose comes out and pitches 6 shut-out innings, and
leaves a 0-0 game? Sorry but that's bullshit.
<p> </p><p>No
its not. Moose has a tendency to really go south after 100 pitches.
Weve seen it time and time again. Its only the 6th, but he threw alot
of pitches. And this is a tough lineup that can score alot of runs, as
we saw last night. Right move. </p><blockquote />

It's the right move cuz Rodriguez didn't give up a run in the 7th... If Texas had scored, it'd be "Why'd they pull Moose?" As far as I'm concerned, pitch counts are for pussies. Back in the day, pitchers went 8 or 9 innings every start.

that would be a second guess. Which is silly. Any idiot can look at the
result and say It didn't work. What you should look at is the decision
going in BEFORE the result, which is what Torre has to do every day. <p> </p><p>Put
it this way. If you're managing a team, and you do something that will
work 3 times out of four, you do it. Even though any dope can criticize
you when the 1 time comes up, it was STILL THE RIGHT DECISION. Its your
job to put your team in the best position to win. To give them the best
CHANCE. And NOTHING IS 100%, especially in Baseball. <br />

<p>"It's a pretty common crticism of ESPN that their baseball worldview seems to place the AL East way, WAY above all others."</p><p>Not all the AL East, just two teams. Mojo, being a Jays fan I notice this shit even more on ESPN News and sometimes even the hour long versions of SportsCenter. There are times I wait through the whole 1/2 hour segment of ESPN News, usually started with almost 10 minutes (1/3 of the segment) on the Yankees slump/big hit/comeback/ARod's hang nail/Shef's idiotic comment or whatever the fuck they did that day no matter how boring, only to not even have them update or show a quick rundown on the Blue Jays at all. I have TIVO (Thank God) and I'll keep my other tuner on ESPN News allowing me to check it quickly over and over for the highlights. Sometimes I'm happy just to get the line score up there. So I guess highlights are to much to ask for once in a while. Thankfully I have a computer to keep me up to date. Without it, ESPN does such a bad job I'd probably be clueless as to what was going on in the overall sport. I'd have to rely on fucking newspapers and mags, not that I don't anyway, but that's not the point. ESPN doesn't really cover sports any longer, it promotes the easy sell.</p>

The bottom line here is that our pen is better then most with 3 solid guys most people have confidence in. If F-Rod is avg with the rest of leaugue i'll be happy, but these 3 guys cant pitch every night when you play 11 days in a row. Joes going to make plenty of "stupid" decisions with our staff the way it is. No starters are getting it done for the most part, and we cant burn the pen out. F-Rod, Franklin, anderson and whoever else are going to be pt into close games down the line

Sounds like Moose didn't wanna come out either. <a href="http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/content/printer_friendly/nyy/y2005/m07/d19/c1137048.jsp">Article on Mussina's wasted outing.</a><br><br><font face="Verdana" style="font-size:9px;">quote:<hr color="cococo" align="left"></font>"As I came in after the sixth, Joe said, 'That's good enough. That's it.' I said, 'That's kind of strange.' He said I'd thrown 109 pitches. I said, 'Are you sure?' He said yes. I asked him if he was sure again, and he said, 'Yeah, that's it.'
"I felt pretty good, but Joe said that was enough. I didn't even get the option of whether I felt good enough. It wasn't up for debate."<hr color="cococo" align="left">
<br>This is why pitch count can be retarded sometimes. You can't ALWAYS go strictly by the books and coarsely stick to rules. Sometimes you just gotta ask the guy how he's feeling, and go by that. Moose said he still felt great, so why not at least let him START the 7th... It's all water under the bridge now, cuz we lost. But I'm just saying, Torre's gotta consider a few more things before bowing down to the omnipotent King Pitch Count.<br><br>

<p>Joe knew who was pitching tonight, and his name is Aaron Small. The fact that he didn't want to utilize Gordon when he's up by a run with a chance to guarantee two out of three against the Rangers is so stupid I can't begin to understand it. Let me clarify this, Small has NO chance of winning this game, NONE. Yet for some reason Torre feels he needs to save his pen for today. If he had utilized Gordon yesterday, he could have marched out all the Proctors, Andersons, Franklins, and Grooms today seeing as how that is what he is going to have to do anyway. The game won't even be close. It just frustrates me to no end how he is willing to piss away big wins because of he wants to throw mediocre pitchers into the fire to "test" them. Torre is a good leader of men, I am not even going to begin to deny that. Torre, however, is not the brilliant in-game coach that people try to paint him to be. He isn't even close, I know I'll get alot of flack for it but I genuinely believe that Torre simply got lucky to land on the team he did. </p>

<p>What exactly was the point of that? Pitch Gordon
for two innings? He's coming off an injury, and pitched a hell of a lot

<p>Not to mention didn't Gordon wear his arm out with the Cubs becasue of overuse?</p><p>And you guys are questioning things now, i think (and coming from a yankee hater) that Joe Torre is doing the right thing. We haven't even hit the dog days of August and Torre is probably worried about wearing his older pitchers out with the heat and wear and tear of a long season. If Mussina were 26 instead of 36 he may have pitched more but you gotta save your studs for the stretch run.</p><p>IMO this has probably been Joe Torre's best job as a manager yet to have so much mediocrity on the roster and have the Yankees fighting for the playoffs is an outstanding job</p><p>Oh yeah Yankees suck</p>

No no, HBox you got it all wrong. The bullpen OBVIOUSLY needed the day off. Mo has closed 4 games in 5 days, Gordon has made like 50 appearances. Sturtze was in for long relief in the 11-10 game. The core of the bullpen: Sturtze, Gordon, and Rivera need a few days off. They're clearly overworked already, and we saw where that got us last year. The pen collapsed when it counted most.<br><br>So how do you rest the bullpen? Either win 9-0, lose 9-0, or do what we did last night: use the crap of the bullpen. I'm simply saying: Moose pitches 7, Rodriguez pitches 8, and decide the 9th depending on what happens. Then maybe you can win a 1-0 game and take 2 of 3... cuz we're sure as hell not winning tonight.

<p>Hawk, here is what i think HBox was gettin at. If this is mid
september, then you absolutely leave in Mussina and work from there.
But its July, and its not worth risking a 36 year old pitcher throwing
130 pitches in a mid july game when you are a half game up in the
division. Losing the game isnt as bad as possibly losing mussina, cause
you are still right there and have plenty of games to make it up.</p><p>I
think, given the situation, the time of the season, and how well the
team has played, Torre, for once, did things the way they should have
been done. </p>

Dude, I don't even know anymore... 4 HR's in 2 days... like 10 in the last 3 weeks. He's honestly starting to scare me. I love to think he is finally just seeing the results of some long, hard work, and I hope I'm right.

<p>Giambi is getting what he deserves. And I don't
mean that in a good way. Even if he isn't on the roids, and this is the
result of hard work, he's never gonna get credit for it. His arms look
huge, though.<br />
</p><p>And Buddy Groom is having the latest bullpen abortion. Great.</p>

It's time for the Yankees to seek some legit bullpen help. We can't have Gordon pitching 5 nights a week. At this rate, he's gonna have 90 appearances by the end of the season (and that number isn't a joke.)<br><br>PS - I'm no fan of Michael Kay, but he's saying exactly what I said the other night. The Yankee starters need to go 7, or else Gordon's arm is gonna fall off when we need it most again.
<IMG SRC="http://scripts.cgispy.com/image.cgi?u=ChickenHawk"><br>HORDE KING FOREVER!!! ORACLE NEVER!!!<br><strike>Shock</strike><br><marquee behavior=alternate><font size=2><b>EMFA</b></font></marquee>
<p><font size="0" face="verdana" color="black">The Yankee starters need to go 7, or else Gordon's arm is gonna fall off when we need it most again.</font></p><p>Then they're going to need to get through six innings under 100 pitches.</p><p>This is not the fault of the starters or of Torre. This is a clear, unavoidable defect of the bullpen.<br />
</p>

OK. Here's a question. Why didn't Rodriguez start

I'm sick of this 100-pitch peak shit. Why does this new generation of baseball teach pitchers to be pussies? Like they were just talking about, Catfish Hunter getting 25 complete games. Guys used to go 8 or 9 innings like it was nothing. This age of the bullpen is for fags.
<IMG SRC="http://scripts.cgispy.com/image.cgi?u=ChickenHawk"><br>HORDE KING FOREVER!!! ORACLE NEVER!!!<br><strike>Shock</strike><br><marquee behavior=alternate><font size=2><b>EMFA</b></font></marquee>
<p>You cannot compare thing's like that. It's a
longer season now, hitters take more pitches, pitching is more
stressful, owners are more careful with their investments and don't
want their 23 year-old ace pitching prospect never to reach the majors
because they blew out their shoulder throwing 140 pitches, or their 30
year-old pitcher who they just gave a huge contract to do the same
thing. Not to mention deeper bullpens everywhere outside NY where a
fully rested reliever is more effective than a tired starter who just
threw 100 pitches. Or the idea that you want your starters more rested
for the postseason so you make an effort all season not to work them
like horses unless neccessary.</p><p>The game has changed.<br />

Sierra's absence has really been a big hole for the Yankees. So far, in the last 2 games we've lost, big game-on-the-line spots have come up where Sierra would definitely be hitting, and we've had to go with guys like Tino, Bubba, and Posada instead. In 1-run loses, who knows, we couldda been in 1st place with Sierra's bat in the lineup. I hope he's ready to go at the end of his 15 days.

Snoogans, the last at-bat in the game where the Yanks lost 2-1, was Tino Martinez pinch hitting for Bubba with runners in scoring position. The last at-bat in the game where Vlad grand-slammed was Posada pinch hitting for Flaherty, with runners in scoring position. I guarantee that both of those times, Ruben would've been used over Tino or Posada in a pinch hitting spot, and likely would've come through in one of them. I think that, with our pitching in shambles, the argument that Ruben's injury has hurt us is a valid one.<br><br>And Spoon, it's not my fault you got made fun of in school.

Okay, real quick, judgement call:<br><br>
Mussina's got 97 pitches after 6 in a 1-0 game. Start him in the 7th? I say ABSOLUTELY. Supposedly it's a crime for him to get too far over 100, but he hasn't even hit 100 yet, so there's no reason he shouldn't at least START the 7th in a 1-run game. Let's see....

He didnt come out for the 7th? Admittedly I ve caught bits of these last 3 games but I'm assuming he came out because Joe had his big pen guys all lined up for the last 3 innings. Ya know if he pitched that extra inning last time he wouldnt have given this effort this time, and if he pitches too much today, then youll see it next time. He can use the big guns today cause of the day off finally, so save moose for the rest off the season. With that being said, I hate Tom Gordan. All I see of this guy base runners and now Moe needs to get 5 outs. Great.

<p> Randy Johnson gets pissed off at reporters (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2115552)<br />
</p><p></p>
<p>Johnson became annoyed when reporters questioned him before Sunday's
game about his back. He gave up two runs on four hits in six innings
and left with New York up 5-2.</p>
<p>"They took me out of the game. I
didn't ask to come out. It's over with. I'm fine. Every time something
happens -- a little tweak here, a little tweak there -- they're more
cautious than I am," said the 41-year-old Johnson.</p>
<p>"I haven't
been 100 percent since I was in high school. But yet, I still get out
there and pitch, and I'm among the league leaders in innings and games
started. So it shouldn't be an issue. When I'm not out there, that's
when it is. I'll be out there [Tuesday]," he said.</p>
<p>Obviously
irritated, he added: "It doesn't mean I'm completely healthy, but I'll
be out there. It's unbelievable around here. It's like when we're 50
minutes away from Disneyland -- 'We're almost there, kids.' So no more
of it, all right? No more."</p>
<p>You know, I think I dont even care if he pitches well. I like him around for the enertainment value. </p>

him back 100 percent ready to go. We can't afford to stub our toe right
now with this little time left in the season."
</p>
<p>"It's just a change of heart," manager Joe Torre said. "Since
we've invested all this time in getting him right, we didn't want to
all of a sudden rush him with an abbreviated rehab. Nothing changed
physically that made us make this change."
</p>
<p></p>
<p>WangChien-Ming Wang, on the DL with shoulder inflammation, hasn't thrown
a ball during his rehab in Tampa, but hasn't had any pain in his
shoulder during his strengthening program.
</p>
<p>"Right now, he feels fine. They're working on exercise,
treatment and getting arm strength back," Torre said. "He'll start to
play catch Monday. The fact that there's no pain there is good news.
</p>
<p>
"If the throwing program follows suit, then I think realistically we can think about him coming back."
</p>
<p></p>
<p>Wright Jaret Wright [shoulder] will pitch in his first rehab game on
Saturday for the Gulf Coast Yankees, his next step toward a return from
the DL.

<p>Wright, who has been out since April, could return to the team

Enough bitching about your rotation! Holy fuck! Even going out and adding Wright, Pavano, Johnson, Leiter and I'm sure some more before the 07/31 deadline (Nomo & ?,?,?), you act as though the yankees can't catch a break. Look, the Blue Jays weren't able to add even one god dam pitcher in the offseason, or from waivers, are down their top two pitchers (Ace Roy Halladay and Lilly), and are still gaining ground on the Yanks, Boston and the Wild Card spot. I'm so sick and fucking tired of hearing Yankee fans crying, "we need so and so" or "let's trade for this guy bc they can't afford him next year". Let's see the Yankees fucking win for once on their own. Perhaps the novelty of using the farm system correctly should be in order for the Yankees as most teams have at least a few pitchers ready to give the majors a run. Without some recent callups & rookies, the Jays would be falling in the standings right now too. They field a fucking all-star team every single day and still they are only a few games over .500. And the first question mark in Chickenhawk's favorite post goes to Chacon. Like Hbox stated, he isn't a bad pickup. I just can't believe the Rockies traded him for what amounts to a bag of balls. Chacon has allowed 3 runs or less in 9 of his twelve starts. At Coors Field, those numbers are impressive. Also, in interviews it seems he's out to prove he's better than his win loss record and of course he'll shine in NY bc I fucking hate the Yankees. Why the fuck didn't the other contenders in the AL East and wild card race add a bat or pitching machine to the offer and keep him from the yanks? I'm sure they'll add a few after the deadline with rich waiver claims other small market teams can't even think about.

Have you considered that some people actually leave their homes on Friday nights?

<p>Yep, I've got you pegged as a real go-getter/party midget. Sorry, don't even try that one here. You're just a big mouth when your team wins. </p><p> </p><p>The time has come for part #3 of this web-o-shit. I need my fix of gay CH logic and pics. Wadd and BC have calmed down of late and made a few "valid" points, but only CH has the talent to keep his lunacy totally unfettered.</p><p><img src="http://members.aol.com/dxixrxt/spoon2.jpg" border="0" /> </p><p>Get your balls out of your purse and step up to flavor! <p>Oh yea, not that I value Malooses or whatevers opinion on shit like this, but whats this about the Mets holding up the Manny deal because of money??? Do they want the Sox to get rid of him and eat the money? Hes like the 4th best pure bat in baseball and they act as if the Sox should be looking to get rid of him likes hes kevin brown or something. </p><p>Ive heard Looper cameron and Huff to the sox, manny to the mets and the rays get prospects. PLEASE GET THIS DONE!!! Less atractive to me is Manny to the Mets, those minors guys from the mets to the sox, then those minor guys to the rangers for Soriano.</p>
