If you ever wondered what Pretty in Pink would have been like if John Hughes were British this movie is for you.

It was really dark and kinda disturbing. I think I heard a 'comedic Taxi Driver' and that works as a comparison. I'd also say Cable Guy and definitely King of Comedy work as a comparison thematically.

Not overly funny but I appreciated the dance it did between absurdist comedy and dark, deranged storytelling. Worth a viewing.

Rewatched Mad Max and The Road Warrior...I am Convinced that Humongus from Road Warrior is the Captain of Police from Mad Max...both muscleheads, bald (albeit humongus had wisps, but the captain shaved his head), use of the arms when they spoke, and...lots of Humongus' crew drove cop cars or wore the same leathers as Mel in Mad Max, plus cop bike helmets and goggles.

i watched it today too! on cinemax. I still think theres too much narration in that movie though

today i also, unknowingly, watched two movies with Bob Kelly in it

the first was the documentary that Jamie Kennedy made called "Heckler" and it was actually really good. They interview a lot of really funny people telling stories about getting heckled (Joe Rogan, David Cross, Dice, Patton Oswalt..). Also, it was pretty funny hearing Jamie Kennedy read his terrible reviews and then talk to the critics about how they hate him so much. I walked away from that movie saying "i wish it was longer" which is always a good thing. Bob Kelly's part was like "duuuuuuuuuude, hecklers duuuuuuuuude, you gotta just believe in yourself duuuuuuuuude"

then i watched "Good Luck Chuck" with Dane Cook. What a piece of shit! Jessica Alba tries to be funny in it and she couldn't be less funny. Dane Cook tries to be charming and hes just a fag. Everything is a cliche and nothing is shocking or funny..it was a chick flick trying to be maxim magazine. Bob Kelly was the security guard at the airport during the final act where Dane Cook has to get to Jessica Alba before she leaves for Antarctica (no shit). I think his role was to say "duuuuuuuuuuuuude, dane cook, duuuuuuuuude, to get jessica alba you gotta just believe in yourself duuuuuuuuude"

It was kind of like if magnolia wasn't remotely interesting. The only good part was Rorshach jerking off in the passenger seat of a mentally unstable woman's car. Kate Winslett fucking that Nite Owl II guy was good too, otherwise it was a pretty amazingly boring movie. Just another movie full of 1 dimensional characters...

If it rains again tomorrow, I think I'll watch the first 2 Mad Max movies like Coach did. Unless I'm missing something, they did a real crummy job of explaining how the world tuned to shit between the 1st & 2nd movies.

Yeah?? I was on the fence about whether or not I was gonna commit some time to that one. Seems to me Boyle is sliding backwards and I was afraid of a let down...

Sunshine's third act was unwatchable IMO, and Slumdog was good but too often felt like a MTV movie that hopes to contextualize MIA's music. Style over substance. Could have used some edits, but better then Sunshine.

Anyway, I'll have a look at Millions on your word here.

I completely disagree. I don't even think that is the main point of the movie. How news is covered and what news is released and where newspapers are going was the main theme.

Affleck proves again that when he focuses and makes good selections, he's a competent actor. Overall, a really good political thriller. Brought up issues that people pretty much know about but it wasn't heavy handed. I could have done without the last twist, I thought the movie played well until the very end.

I also don't think Rachel McAdams is remotely attractive.

In the vein of City of God and The Motorcycle Diaries, it tells the story of a Honduran girl making a trek to America and also the story of a Mexican gang and how they cross paths.

It's not as bad as I initially remember. It just needed to be an hour longer.
The director creating a whole storyline to involve his character in the story is fucking bullshit, though.

And Angelica Huston looked to fit to play a woman who hasn't eaten in months.

I saw X-Men Origins Wolverine and couldn't believe how bad the areas where his claws meet his skin in every frame- his claws look like they were made in ArtCAM. If I didn't know who most of the characters were already I don't think the movie would make sense, and the storyline liberties taken made the movie less interesting (no samurai period?)

It was worse then The Punisher but better than The Happening.

Ouch! Made-for-tv.... Tough criticism- for what's its worth, Herzog is known as an art-house director and he made that film in 44 days. If you're interested in the real guy at all "Little Dieter Needs to Fly" (also by Herzog) - same story but all told by the man himself. Then again, you already know the story so...

I watched JCVD - I enjoyed the first half but by then the gimmick had worn thin and I could wait to get out of it.
The story: Jean Claude Van Damme stars as himself, washed up actor making shitty korean films for little money while also going through a public custody battle. He ends up in a bank during a robbery and is faced with a real dangerous situation, while also being faced with the fact that he not a superman.
Like i said, it wears thin.

I watched the leaked version of this last night so I was just chalking up how terrible the claws were to unfinished FX shots, although it doesn't surprise me that they looked that terrible in the finished version.

Nothing about this movie really made sense. It's a movie about superheros who dont use their powers that much. It's an ensemble where everyone only gets 5 minutes of screen time. The best actor is playing a really 1 dimensional role, the most charasmatic actor gets cast in the most charasmatic part and you make him mute for 5 of the 10 minutes he's on screen. Chronologically it was very messy and nothing had any motivation.

Anyway, its about Sam Rockwell and his wife (the chick from "the departed") and they have a creepy son and a newborn baby. The creepy son turns out to be evil and kills people and is just generally fucked up. Its a movie thats been done before, but i'll recommend it just because I think Sam Rockwell is a really good actor and I think he saves the movie. Its just one of those movies where you can say "wow, if this actor wasn't so good this movie would be completely worthless". But its a good watch if its on cable one day and you are bored

Saw the Tyson doc last night. Incredible stuff. It's just Tyson talking for an hour and half. Lots of footage from his fights - including his first title fight, the Holyfield fight, and his first loss. Tyson basically walks the viewer through his life from elementary school to today - he does not shy away from any subject (including the rape case).
There's is a good chance that any perception of Tyson you hold before seeing the film is likely to prove either incorrect or wildly misled by the media.

Highly Recommend it.

eternal sunshine is one of my favorites. absolutely love it.

You might like Synechdoche, New York, Kaufman's latest. There's a great movie in there somewhere, it just should have been directed by someone else.

I loved this movie, but how much of it was real video and how much of it was fake? The young guy playing looked exactly like him, but it seemed too clear to be an old video.

they used a lot of reenactment sequences. the ones in the world trade center were filmed in other buildings since they are no longer there

Saw it tonight. (Three people in the theater - me, my cousin and some guy who was chuckling through the whole thing.) I second what Kublakhan said. If you understand that humans are some complex creatures you'll appreciate it. If you like stories to be tied up with a neat moral bow at the end you should skip this one.

best movie of the 90s is 1990-1999

watched 2 movies today

the first was called "Neo Ned". I DVR-ed it because it was about a neo-nazi in an insane asylum that falls in love with a black girl that thinks shes hitler. The premise is beter than the film but it still had some good performances as well as a lot of silly stuff that would make you roll your eyes. worth one watch

i also watched the "Get Smart" movie with Steve Carrel. It was light, fun entertainment. If you have kids its probably a good movie to watch with them. Also worth one watch if you want decent mindless entertainment

Oh this movie.........I looked forward to it for about 4 years, probably heard more about the production of it than any other in my life.

Was it good? Not really. But it had a couple funny parts and a story that was somewhat similar to my experience back then (sneaking out of study hall to buy tickets for everyone, light saber fights, friend dying a couple years later) so that part I enjoyed. But no one without a similar story or a serious love for anything Star Wars could like it.

I suppose I should warn you of some stuff in case youre not into it, but that might ruin your experience. Very low key yet good performances by all involved.

The Hangover.

Very funny but I thought it would be a little bit funnier. I like Phillips because of Old School and Road Trip so I had high expectations for this. It just took a while to get going. You know from the trailer that they black out and piece the night together. It took about 15 minutes to get to that point that wasn't very funny. But it did get funnier as it went along and actually, the closing credits might be the funniest part of the movie. I was crying during them.

Galafinakis is a breakout though. He's extrememly funny.

My thoughts exactly. Even down to his southern accent, his part in historic moments, his girl that treats him like shit, his mother that dies, the hummingbird like the butterfly in Gump, on and on.

Most disappointing part was that the skipped how he dies altogether. That is what I was waiting for the entire movie.

It probably helps in a packed theater. Comedies always do. It was just that I knew where it was going, and it took too long to get there. Just get to the morning after already, we know that's the basis of the movie. But the ending with the slideshow is genius.
