A long car chase with a Dodge Caliber in Phoenix, Ariz., ended with the suspect shooting himself in the head on live TV, appearing to commit suicide.

The driver, recorded live news helicopters, led law enforcement on a dangerous chase, traveling at speeds of nearly 100 mph.

Around 3:30 p.m. ET, at the end of the hour-long pursuit, he drove off the road, got out of his car and ran down a dirt path for a short period. He then appeared to shoot himself in the head and collapsed.

Fox News quickly cut away from the shot and went to commercial after the gruesome incident. Host Shepard Smith immediately apologized for airing what looked like a suicide.

"We really messed up," Smith told viewers after the flop. He said the footage was on a 5-second time delay and shouldn't have been aired. "We're all very sorry. That didn't belong on television."

or maybe they throw money out the window. These televised high speed chases are entertaining, I never turn one off, that's why they show them. It's not the norm to end one in tragedy, they usually crash harmlessly or run over a strip that blows their tires, this was not a normal ending.

The chase goes on and when 4 comes they switch over to Cavuto who doesn't cover it. The only one who does is Shep Smith and he does so because his show is a news/entertainment styled show. As delV said, it's entertaining to see a car chase and they usually don't end like it ended today.

I agree with him on several of his points (although he always comes off as smug to me). The one that I disagree with though is his idea of fire arm related deaths in America. I'm not sure the percentage or number of those that were purchased legally. In which case, background checks wouldn't matter much at all since the guns were attained illegally.

For the record, I am for background checks for firearm purchases. At the same time, if we better enfored the laws on the books maybe we could stop gun violence. Or better yet, increase penalties for illegal gun purchases.

Firstly, *most* animal species don't raise their young at all. But among those that do, the vast majority raise them either solo (single mothers), or in a herd (extreme polygamy). Very few have nuclear families.

Off the top of my head, I can only think of one case where animals raise their children with two parents. And that's penguins. Where the male stays "home" with the egg while the female spends the winter fishing (which is basically counter to your point).

I'm with you that single parents can be a big problem for our society, but the comparison to the animal kingdom is just totally inaccurate
