The home plate ump was terrible tonight for both sides. Throw it anywhere and you got a first pitch strike. All in all the bottom of the Sox's order killed them.

TERRY FRANCONA MANAGER OF THE YEAR!

I mean, why would you pinch hit for Coco Crisp? He's knocking the cover off the ball at an amazing clip of .187 for this series. And the bottom of the lineup has been great, so I completely understand not wanting to switch things up a bit and maybe throw Ellsbury or Henske in there to attempt to get on base.

I'm honestly surprised he didn't put Gagne in after pulling Wakefield way, way, WAY too quick.

As someone who's been on the receiving end of a 3-0 comeback, I'm not counting Boston out for a minute. Not even close.

Cleveland better not go ahead and relax now. Beckett's gonna win Game 5, and then they're back in the sespool that is Fenway Park for 2 games.

i think your forgetting the overwhelming mojo that boston had going against its bitter rivals and the heroes that they had on that team

If theres a comeback it will be because of jd drew stepped up

All's I'm sayin is, Boston's got probably the most distinct home field advantage in baseball. So there's a lot of pressure on Cleveland to close this thing out on Thursday... and that's gonna be tough to do against Beckett. If it's 3-2 going into Fenway, I'd almost give the advantage to Boston.

Cleveland breaks the losing streak since 54. They're simply a much better team than the Rockies, and built well for a short series. Plus, once the Rockies lose 2 in a row, the whole deck of cards collapses.

The gnats. The two out hits. Byrd and Westbrook getting people out. Its all unheard of. The baseball gods are making it their year. Cleveland in 5.

Instead of shopping for a 3rd baseman who will inevitably turn out like Lugo, Crisp, Renteria, or Gonzalez (why do people think our GM is great at finding talent again?), why not sign Lowell for another 3 years? He'll be 34 at the end of the year. It seems like such a logical move.

The ritual beating of King Hippo in Punch Out! has occurred before games 5 & 6. You better believe that it will happen again before game 7.

I don't want to think about the pressure that is on Matsuzaka right now. I just have the feeling he is one bad start away from BK Kim / Fat Toad status.

so, onto a game 7 where we are starting the japanese right handed version of Al Leiter. FUCK

I'm nervous

Me too. Dice-K holds a lead like I hold a relationship. Also, every time the Sox offense explodes like they did last night, they go cold the next game.

I'm thinking he lasts 4. Then you go to Lester or Tavarez for long middle relief.

You can go to Beckett, Okijima, really anyone on the roster outside of Schilling. All hands on deck, as they say.

The Tribe just threw their ace last night and he got annihilated. Plus they used their #2 bullpen guy Perez and you destroyed him as well. That has to shake their confidence. Plus, they're starting Westbrook, who's bad on the road and Boston kills on a regular basis. They have to be a bit deflated to begin with as a young team that just blew a 3-1 series lead. You learn about young teams mettle when they have to close out a veteran team, especially one that has won a championship like the Bosox. The Yanks took advantage of this for years against teams like Oakland during their run.

You guys are going to win the WS. Get used to it. Bastards.

No jinx, I'm serious. Sabathia pitched a LOT of innings this year and hasn't been good in the playoffs. Most think he's out of gas. Carmona has pitched like a #1 all year, and has been their ace through the playoffs. He dominated the Yanks in the 'gnats' game. Then the Bosox just destroy him last night. The Tribe needed that game, and got blown out instead. Bad news for them, plus Game 7 is in Boston and even if they were pitching someone good tonight thats still an edge for the Sox. With what happened last night, I think this series is over.

I think the Tribe showed that what you do in the regular season doesn't mean anything in the post season.

If that was the case then the Yankees would've been playing the Sox because the Yanks owned Byrd and Westbrook during the year ( and also they had a decent history against either Carmona or Sabathia too if I remember correctly ).

Unfortunately that's also worked against the Tribe in that their 2 aces have laid some duds for them against the Sox.

I would lean towards the Sox winning the game tonight based on the fact that Westbrook has been pretty " lucky " so far and that Matsuzaka has got to throw a decent game sooner or later.

The thing working against the Sox is that it's always tought to take 3 in a row from the same team.

If the Sox can keep hitting, and hope that Hafner stays in the slump, they should be able to sneak into the WS.

I think the Tribe showed that what you do in the regular season doesn't mean anything in the post season.

One big difference is that you get to see the same pitchers over and over again. So early in a series, its advantage pitcher. Since its generally harder to hit in the post season due to the pressure. But as the series wears on, it becomes advantage hitter. They're more relaxed, they just saw this pitcher a few days ago. Just like the way most pitchers are less effective each time they go through a lineup and BA tend to rise each time they do, when you just saw a pitcher a few days ago its like starting out at the 3rd inning. Especially for a guy like Westbrook that relies on a few pitches. Matsuzaka throws a lot of pitches, he can reinvent himself better by featuring other stuff.

The one thing I admire about the Red Sox is in fact that you have a bunch of characters on your team. From Manny to Ortiz to whatever the fuck Papelbon was doing, you have personality.

the Yankees don't. I mean, they're nice guys, and they're likable, but even the personality that Damon showed on the Red Sox has somehow disappeared when he came to the Yankees.

The division series is once again proven to be a joke, but they'll never bring it back to 7 games.

As a Yankee fan, I will say this.

The only "heart" and "emotion" you saw from the Yankees was from Joba, and I'm sure that'll slowly go away to as the Yankee machine gets to him.

You would NEVER fucking see what happened tonight at Yankee Stadium. NEVER.

you are correct and its because your not allowed to be an individual as a yankee. No go tee's no beards, no long hair etc.

Eh.. not so true.. Like you said.. Joba has it.. And so did Melky and Robby.. With the Yankees bringing youth more and more to this team, you will see it.. I am sure Los chicos would have done some wild shit, if we won..

You are serious? Robinson has the personality of a wet noodle. He never shows emotion. He so nonchalant about everything. Every now and then he cracks a smile, but the yankees really dont have any personality. But they will when Barry US Bonds signs a contract with the yanks.

I wish I had paid closer attention to those 3 games the Rockies played at Fenway this past June.

You know I was thinking the same thing last night. I also remember the Sox-Yankees series at the Stadium in late April. When Tito went to take Julian Tavarez out of the game, they shared a laugh about something. Whenever they showed Torre he looked like his dog just died.

The Sox play loose and have fun. I mean it still is just a game. As Manny said,
"It doesn't happen, so who cares? There's always next year. It's not like it's the end of the world."

Get your first baseman's mitt ready, Big Papi!

Now that we've had 20 minutes to enjoy it, what is the rotation for the series? Any roster changes?

-Wakefield or Lester in game 4?

With Papi's bum knee, I'd keep Youk in at first even in the games in Colorado. Start Youk and put Papi in only f they need his bat. The way Youk and Lowell are hitting, it may not be so bad for Papi to sit one or more of those games.

Hmmm...I'm a big Wake fan but clearly that back of his is still bothering him. And for Wake to pitch you need Mirabelli -- and he bats my weight. I'd sit Wake, start Lester in Game 4, and activate Tavarez or Snyder.

What I like about this team is the fact that they do have attitude. They remind me a lot of what the Mets should have of been like in the mid to late 80's. If the Rockies win it will show that parity exists in baseball, a different WS winner every year. If the Sox win, it proves that they are the new dynasty, thus far, for the 2000's.

A: Bonds never happen..
B: I do not know what you have been watching (obviously not Yankee games) But Cano and Melky bring so much energy to the team, always jumping around and laughing,. Them along with Shelly, Joba, have been great for the team.. But lets not derail this thread.. Again congrats sox fans.

As a Yankees fan for some reason the Red Sox winning the World Series doesn't bother me nearly as much as it did in 2004. I think there's too much trouble in Yankees Universe to be concerned with the Sox.

But on a side note, one thing I love about ball players is whenever they win or clinch something the celebration always includes cans of Bud Light. I love that they're keeping it classy in that regard. There's no Cristal poppin, its just straight Bud Light.

Doc Z please tell me you're not going to complain about the ALDS being only 5 games ?

The Yankees have lost 3 straight DSs so what makes you think making it a best of 7 would've assured them of going any further ?

Why not just play every series until the Yankees win more games than their opponent and if for some reason they don't win the division or the wild card we can always add a special Yankees wild card.

How about instead of making it 7 games they do away w/ it all together and the Yankees don't even make the playoffs ?

Forgive me if I misinterpreted your comments about the DS but it seemed like that's the point you were making.

It was funny to see Ortiz wearing his goggles before the game was actually over.

If he had to bat again for some reason I'd have loved to see him go out there w/ those on.

I kinda felt bad for the Indians but they're a young team and they should get a few more cracks at it.

I never realized how big of a spaz Paps was until this game. Him running screaming in front of all of the Red Sox upper management when they're getting awarded the trophy was fucking hilarious.

"Its always the ones that contribute the least who celebrate the most"

BTW-Congrats to the NEW Evil Empire.
Bosox in 6, just get to Colorado a day or two early.

I'd go righty/lefty with Papi. Lefties give him trouble anyway, so let him sit is the Rockies throw a lefty (Do they even have one?) and play him at first for 7 innings when there's a righty starting. I also wouldn't go back to back days with Papi in the field, due to the knee. He should start at least 1 game in Colo, maybe 2.

A best of 7 would have given Torre an extra game to sleep through.

Yeah, Papelbon didn't do much this year. Only 6.2 scoreless in the postseason with a win and a save. 37/40 in save opportunities in the regular season, sub 2.00 ERA...

We're talking about Jonathan Papelbon here. He's contributed a lot.

I was just kidding, and referring to him only having 1 career post season save. Thats a great line Cashen came up with, I use it every chance I get.
